If Alan Pardew is to leave the Tyneside club it will not be by hos own hand – and he’s made it very clear he will not resign from his position as manager of Newcastle United.
Alan Pardew – doing the best I can
This is what Pardew has said to the press today:
“It has been suggested that I don’t care about this position, and that I’ve got this long contract so I’m going through the motions – nothing could be further from the truth.”
“I was absolutely sick after the game on Saturday, and the performance we put in was just not worthy of this football club.” “I’ve been accused of not taking responsibility for the defeat, but I think a lot of that is because I won’t criticize the players. But I love this football club.”
“I have been hurt this week, but for me, it’s really about, ‘What can I do then?’ Well, I’m under contract at this football club, and therefore I have to make sure I do the best possible job I can under the circumstances. That’s what I’m doing.”
“I’m pulled here and there, but as soon as I say, ‘Right, that’s me’, then I can’t offer any help to anyone,” “That’s not the way I am, and it’s not the way I’ve been made.”
“I’ll constantly be thinking, ‘What can I do to address this problem or improve this player’ until such time as I’m told I can’t. That’s how I’ve always worked, and how I’ll always be.”
“You can’t be in this job as long as I have been without having some tough days. This will be one of my toughest, but there is a resilience in my soul. It’s not an arrogance or my ego getting carried away – that’s not the reason I’m going to front it out.”
“It’s about being professional and going out there this weekend and being as strong as we can be. We will be trying to win back as many fans as we can with our performance – even if it’s just one that would help.”
It’s likely because of the demonstrations planned against Pardew by fans at tomorrow’s game, that we will not see him on the touchline at all – because that would only rile the fans.
It will be up to assistant manager John Carver to give out instruction and the like from the touchline.
Really Alan is in a difficult position tomorrow afternoon, because it’s a case of he’s damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t.
If he’s not seen on the touchline which was the case at Southampton, there will be criticism in the press, and if he does come to the touchline and riles up the fans, he will be criticized for doing that too.
One thing that may happen is that Newcastle get a couple of early goals and the crowd (possibly) settle down, – and while that’s always possible it’s hard to see it happening – after the last two performances – how this side has many goals in them,.
But you never know – we could always get a couple of own goals?
After all this is Newcastle United.

Comment #161They do seem pretty organised the sackpardew lot.
They seem to have made Steve Wraith a little jealous which is hilarious. They also nicked Tsunkis Idea about the sports direct logo, which was also quite funny.
I’m impressed.

Shocking tactics all right. But who do we have to pass a ball forward since Cabaye left? Sissoko, Tiote and Colback all play side/back ways. Gouff and Riviere are dirt and offer nothing. No way Cabella would play as a number 10 as he would be bullied off the park. We need a deep lying playmaker. Simple as.

Ciaran…You know me, I do try and see both sides of the story – much to many bloggers pain on here – however, I just can’t bring myself to give Ashley and benefit of doubt.
If he really felt he had made a mistake and wanted change, then just do it. In the summer he could of fired Pardew, admitted it wasn’t what he wanted and could have even said the compo money he had to pay would impact incoming players and most probably would have gone along with it to some extent.
Bottom line for me is, he doesn’t really care that much at all and with all the over the top privacy, I can’t help shake the feeling that he is hiding something.
I’ve always maintained that it didn’t need to be this hard, yet it continues. Why? If I could ask Ashley one question, it would probably be that. Or maybe what his favourite colour is? I’m torn.
Belfast…Wait a second, Mr ITK / The blogs master detective, needs me to supply him with information?
How disappointing. You must be losing your touch or perhaps your delusions? 🙂

The fact that they are anonymous helps as well. Plus a lot of what they do is tongue in cheek and inoffensive which I think is what got the attention in the first place.
I think a lot of other groups, with good intentions went for the jugular too soon if that makes sense. Not taking anything away from them however anyone willing to put themselves out there for the good of something they love deserves respect.

Comment #168It’s almost becoming catch 22 for Ashley though, if he does employ another Pardew then it won’t be long before he’s turned upon and the situation will replicate itself over and over, he must know that. No owner can handle that without fearing relegation and loss of reputation within player circles etc, that’s where anti – Ashley groups will become a force as they will have almost everyone onside. He either has to do it properly this time or he will face an ever growing fan movement. Either way it works for us as fans, people are at breaking point and are willing to try and make a difference now by the looks of it.

Define doing a good job? None of these managers – with the restrictions placed on them by Ashley – would have us breaking the top 8. Not a single one.
The football might be a bit better, but that’s about it.

Comment #172Well it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that HBA has inserted a clause to come back if Pards is sacked given his agents statement a while back….
“Hatem doesn’t have to leave,” said Ouazine. “He can go on a free after his contract is over – six months, or a year, this is not a problem. Who knows how long Pardew will be at Newcastle. In two months, he may not be here. Hatem love this club, he is idolised by fans.

How very blasphemous of me 😛 That Malcolm Dix article during the week spouting that Fans United are the most organised group was a load of old tosh too. I’ve been to a load of their meetings – the last of which was in February by the way – and it’s 10 lads drinking pints in the Irish Centre achieving absolutely f**k all.
Lee Marshall was at their last one, so they’re pally pally with the club, but they don’t do anything.
Though, being a board member of NUST I would say that 😉 haha

I seen his blatant “I’m in the limelight” piece in the chronicle the other day about why will it work blah it’s never worked before blah then mentions him dressing as vicar outside SJP and saying “see it doesn’t work”.
What a knobber!
He then questioned the donating issue of where’s the money going. I for one think it’s fairly obvious. 100 professionally printed banners and 10,000 A4 coloured prints which I know isn’t cheap with another 20,000 thrown in by print north east
Needless to say the abuse he received was spectacular.
The none ego thing is a big factor I think, no telling people what to do, what time to do it and all wanting the same thing….the complete annihilation of par….sorry couldn’t help myself.
On a serious note I’m hoping they go for fatty with all the ferociousness that they’ve gone for parsnip with. Now that would be a sight to behold.

Ciaran…I’m less inclined to think that a better manager couldn’t do better than Pardew or have a crack at top 8 tbh. Would have to be some decent manager mind and for me, that is where the problem lies.
I still don’t see how any manager worth their salt, is going to happily be the face of the clubs lies and I don’t see Ashley taking criticism from the manager.
Working under tight restrictions is one thing, Ashley is something else completely – but maybe we’re just too close to it and have had to endure it too long? Would love to be proved wrong as always.

While I’ve been involved with MAOC, I would certainly give these people a helping hand if they wanted to target Mike Ashley in the future.
Wraith was using the fact that NUST are holding an event tomorrow afternoon before the game (which was organised months in advance) to discuss national issues relating to the political governance of football as a stick to beat NUST with because a couple of his mates used to be on the board. He’s a right tosser and thankfully, people rightly slapped him down for questioning the transparency of SackPardew.com.
What he said was downright slander, and the Chronicle has a lot of questions to answer for printing it.

This is the issue isn’t it? Any manager that is good enough to challenge for top 8 isn’t going to happily abide by the tight way in which Ashley runs the club. However, if Ashley appoints another Pardew type manager, then the fans will see right through it and give him their full attention rather than the manager.
The decision to sack or stick with Pardew is an interesting one for Ashley and I am not sure which one he is going to go for.

Comment #186Fcukoff Bruce you fat dinnerlady, you’ve just ruined my day! Kunt!
STEVE Bruce has denied a report that Hatem Ben Arfa’s loan deal has a recall clause.
Ben Arfa joined Hull City on a controversial season-long loan at the start of the month.
The Sun reported today that the loan could be cancelled by Newcastle, Hull or Ben Arfa at the turn of the year.
But Hull manager Bruce, speaking ahead of tomorrow’s meeting between the two clubs at St James’s Park, says there is no recall clause for Ben Arfa.
And he added that Ben Arfa – who is not eligible to play – will watch the game from the stands and NOT the dugout.
“Let me put this straight,” said Bruce.
“Apparently, what I’m hearing is he’s sitting on the bench next to me.
“He’s going to sit in the seat that Newcastle give him. If they want to sit him on top of the stand, that’s where they can put him.
“I’ve heard all the other nonsense as well, but it’s a normal loan deal like everyone else has got, no breaks, nothing at all.”

Ciaran…Yes and no for me. As I’ve always said, I don’t really have a problem with the restrictions / model – if they were honest and upfront – I just don’t believe them to be anymore.
It’s more the lies and deceit I think a good manager would struggle with.
You would hope that a better manager would help bring in better youth players and sort that set up too, which in turn would make selling key players less of a disaster. Pardew has always relied heavily on one or two players and they’re always the ones that get sold.
It’s just a recipe for disaster.
Either get the right manager for the players / model you want to run or get in the right players / model for the manager you have. It can’t just be about the cheapest option at every level. Although I’m sure Ashley would argue that last point to his grave.

that’s what’s so frustrating with Pardew – if you’re picking players that fit the system the manager wants to play, Pardew is like Mourinho (ahem) in wanting people to track back and defend, but what Mourinho does is get in Matic and lose Mata who’s great in attack and cant defend. What Pardew does is want to defend but either mould Gouffran or Cabella into wing backs or just not play them (Hatem) ….aaarggh (and send off one of our defenders on loan with no replacement)

Comment #198Ciaran…A familiar theme indeed 🙂
Belfast…Oh right. Me? I love Pardew, you know that 😉
Catchy…Whilst Ashley does not, to the best of our knowledge anyway, have a say on tactics etc, you surely cannot be serious that his decision making / club mandates, don’t have a negative impact or put restrictions on the team / club?
I know you have always objected to Pardew and his “style” – I don’t think anyone is arguing with you on this point anymore, you must be getting a little bored 🙂 – However, I will go back to when we finished 5th, as I know you love this topic.
For me, the wheels really started to come off after that 5th placed finish. Based on Ashleys mandate and let’s be serious here, surely it was his call, the club set a top 10 target and got in one player, a CM, to tackle our new found Europe status.
What message does that send to the players? They were never building f*** all. That’s when players heads relaly started to drop and it all just spiraled from there.
Style is down to Pardew. The lack of commitment and ambition for NUFC, which I think is probably equally important to decent players, comes from Ashley imo.
I do agree that Pardew needs to go now. I also agree that it will be easier to get rid of him rather than Ashley, so a good starting point.
I’m just not convinced this will be the new dawn many seem to be expecting.
It took this slimeball to be able to work with the King of slimeballs and his entourage.
