The pressure remains fully on Newcastle manager Alan Pardew after today’s results, as the two sides beneath us in the league before the start of today’s fixtures – West Brom and Crystal Palace – both won their games away from home. 🙁
Alan Pardew – must get Newcastle winning some games
West Brom, under former Newcastle coach Alan Irvine, beat an out-of-sorts Tottenham team at White Hart Lane, with the lone goal coming from former Middlesbrough midfielder James Morrison after 74 minutes, and Crystal Palace beat Everton at Goodison Park 3-2, to leave them unbeaten since Neil Warnock took over as manager.
So after five games played Newcastle are bottom of the league with 3 points, and we also have a poor goal difference of -6.
It seems that if we had been beaten yesterday by Hull City, which looked very probable after 70 minutes, Mike Ashley may well have sacked manager Pardew.
But Papiss Cisse saved Newcastle and Pardew with two good goals late in the game.
Newcastle, Burnley and Sunderland are the only three PL sides without a win, and Newcastle and Alan Pardew will need to start winning some games soon, if Pardew is to hang onto his job.
The stats don’t make for good reading for the Magpies – in the last 13 league games Newcastle have won just one game – against relegated Cardiff City at home 3-0 – and we have drawn three games – for a total of 6 points from a possible 39 points.
Over a full season of 38 games, that would give us 18 points and certain relegation.
So the pressure remains fully on Alan Pardew after today’s results, and the Newcastle players need to start delivering.
In the other two games today Manchester United were beaten 5-3 by Nigel Person’s Leicester City, with the home side scoring four unanswered goals in the last 20 minutes of the game.
The Red Devils defense simply collapsed late in the game and they are just two points above Newcastle on 5 points.
And former Chelsea star Frank Lampard scored the late equalizer for 10 man Manchester City against his former club after 85 minutes.
The game at the Etihad Stadium finished 1-1 after Chelsea had gone ahead on 71 minutes through Schurrle. and it was scored a short five minutes after Pablo Zabaleta had been sent off for picking up his second yellow card.
Back to something important – Newcastle’s next game is a week tomorrow night at Stoke City – and a win would be very nice.

Comment #125Don’t know why people are still moaning you had a chance to show how you feel about all the crap going on at the club and a few stewards taking a few fliers off people killed it all it’s no wonder Ashley treats Newcastle fans like sheep it’s not exactly Che Guevara is it. It will never get better so you best get used to it or don’t you do have a choice

Comment #130Is it just me or did anyone else sense that we actually played to our potential yesterday ? there is no right or wrong answer to that its just that i felt we hit peak. i also dont believe that 2nd half performance was for pardew , i would say jonas was in their thoughts throughout and rightly so . lets see what happens over the next few weeks

Comment #131Andrew 84. Im not moralising just expressing my opinion. Like I said pardew is just doing what he has to to keep his job as anyone else would. Hes got no control over transfers and who the club sells which has had an obvious affect on results and performances. You can be as cynical as you want. All the negative cynacism is however is a double edged sword and can have an affect on the team which is what some unbelievably want. Those that want a new manager should b careful what they wish for as they will have the same problems pardew has with ashley.

The same old tired argument of who we’ll get could be worse, you’re dead right the new manager might only manage four wins in 27 games with a -GD of 45.

Comment #133John Carver quit as Toronto FC boss over the constant big-brother antics of MLS bigwigs. The Geordie revealed to the Evening Chronicle: “First of all this is the hardest decision I have had to make.
“When you are manager of a team that has just gone top of the league, playing well and in with a shout of winning something – it’s tough. But it has nothing to do with football.
“It was all to the way I was being treated by the league. It all came to a head recently. There were a few situations where they weren’t happy with the way I was behaving in the technical area.
“I got a few warnings and they didn’t like it. After a game with Dallas recently I had a go at the referee publicly and then got fined $750.
“I knew I couldn’t say anything so I took myself out the firing line and watched the game from upstairs against Chivas USA the next week.
“I saw the game from a total different aspect. My assistant was Chris Cummings and I told him that if we win, he could do the Press conference and if we lose I will do it.
“We won and Chris did the Press conference which got the MLS’s backs up because it’s all about image. So I said I liked what I did and said to them I planned to do the game from the stands again, when we played Kansas.
“They ruled out that I could work it that way, and they demanded I went back to the technical area.
“So I resigned because of that. I am a manager and I should be able to manage the way I want to do it. I am nobody’s puppet and I won’t be controlled.
“I want to do it my way and that was to sit in the stand.”

Comment #138That’s not a good enough excuse for not wanting parsnip gone and to just say “what will be will be” isn’t supporting the club it’s giving up.
A defeatist attitude if ever I saw one and that’s exactly what fatty wants, infact that’s what fatty is depending on and has depended since he’s been here.

I take all your points on board.
However, one thing I have noticed is that there have been two major protests in the last six months. One against Cardiff and one against Hull.
We won one game and played our backsides off in the second.
That to me would suggest that any talk of protests having an adverse effect on the team’s performance is totally false.
Whereas, there were no protests in ANY of these games:
Newcastle 0 – 6 Liverpool
Newcastle 0 – 3 Sunderland (both times)
Newcastle 0 – 4 Tottenham
Newcastle 0 – 3 Everton
Newcastle 0 – 4 Man Utd
I don’t know who you would blame for any of those results, but supporter unrest cannot be one of them.

Comment #146Would someone like Moyes buy into the Ashley model, or Pulis, or Sherwood. I’d say a resounding no! I’m sure they’d say like everyone else, that he’s got 4 billion quid but is obsessed with profit at the expense of results. In a word tightfisted, and at Newcastle of all places, with so much potential, but with so much natural difficulty attracting players of proven quality.
I could see De Boer being worse. Being buttered up and realizing it doesn’t work. Ajax are wealthy by Dutch standards. I’d give that less than a season.
I think that, as much as anything is keeping him in a job. He’d be hard for Ashley to replace. Sad state of affairs. Pardew knows the ropes. Things will need to get worse, perhaps significantly, before he goes, and it can certainly get worse with a new manager. We’ve seen that already.
I have no idea what can be done about Ashley, but one thing we most likely don’t want is a rash sacking. I think that’s sadly very true. Unless you hope that in the ensuing mess, you can force the owner out or against all odds you really will end up with something better.

Comment #147A- negative supprt and unrest from fans can get to the players which can affect performances. This is well known and is well documented that opposition managers try and use this against us I.e frustrate the team long enough and supporters will turn on the team. Also if the protests had no affect then whats the point of having any more. Does this not support my argument?

That might be the case with some teams and some sets of supporters, but it doesn’t seem to be the case for NUFC.
Our fans can be trusted to cheer the team on, whilst protesting against the management of the club.
The players aren’t thick (supposedly), they must read the papers and hear the rumours, none of the protests have been about the players.
If I was a player, and I knew that our fans were planning a protest against the management/board, I’d be able to differentiate that from a protest against the team itself. That seems to have been the reality as well, since we have played quite well both times the protests have gone ahead.
I would also disagree that the protests had no effect. The manager himself acknowledged the protests, and no doubt worked harder to motivate the team to get a result in order to take some of the pressure off himself.
I don’t mean to criticise you personally (I don’t know you, obviously) but if you genuinely have the attitude that “the situation is what it is, there is absolutely nothing we can do about it” then I can only hope you are in the minority. Protests can work, and they work all the time. Think Liverpool FC a few years ago!

It’s not an attempt to get Mike Ashley to listen, because we know he doesn’t.
It’s about making Pardew seriously consider his position as manager of the club.
His tactics are awful and he cannot persistently motivate his players to get the best out of them over a season.
If people are protesting about him in front of his face, banners, chants etc then there is only so much of that he can take before he takes what is left of his dignity and resigns.
Like I said, it’s not about getting to Ashley.

Comment #158I think Pardew genuinely believes he can get Newcastle into the top 7, under Ashley, and that he realizes that is the best Newcastle can achieve under Ashley, and the best he’s ever going to achieve anywhere. I think he and Ashley are in cahoots and their goal is seventh, not mid table mediocrity, but also not top six, and they don’t care what we want. Barring a nervous breakdown, or this run continuing beyond 5 more games, I can’t see any change being made.

Comment #160The beautiful mind ethos – if at first you don’t succeed, give up.
Not kidding many people I’m afraid. Pardew will do all the arguing against that by delivering some more shocking results soon enough though.
