Alan Pardew seemed a pleased man after the 2-2 draw against Hull City and it was the first time in the last three attempts in this fixture that we didn’t lose the game.
Alan Pardew cannot believe his luck as Cisse equalizes late in the game
We lost this game 3-2 last season after being 2-1 up at half time, and back in 2008, in the first game after Kevin Keegan had left the club we lost 2-1.
And that season turned out to be a relegation season for us, and before that game there had been demonstrations against Mike Ashley – who later agreed to try to sell the club.
Yesterday, there were organized demonstrations against the manager Pardew, but they didn’t come to much, probably because the lads were giving their all yesterday and showed a lot of heart, even when we were 2-0 down with less than 20 minutes to play.
After the game Alan Pardew made it clear you have to be able to put up with criticism at Newcastle:
“We set ourselves up for criticism at Southampton.. There are two things: either don’t handle it and don’t play for this football club, or handle it. We came through it here.”
“I have to say thank you to them for that. A big section took a neutral position. I don’t expect them to support me, but they took the view of loving their football club. I think we did enough on the pitch to win a few friends.”
The pressure on Alan Pardew was lifted a little bit yesterday, but a defeat in our next game at Stoke a week tomorrow night, will see the pressure back on, and there are still lots of fans who want him fired.
There will be demonstrations again at Stoke, and with it being a Monday night game, that’s what it will be all about – the SACK PARDEW campaign – the media just loves this stuff.
But on the positive side of things, some of our new players showed they are up for the fight on Tyneside, and their first few games for the club must have been difficult – especially for the younger players.
But as Alan Pardew has said, this is Newcastle, and it’s not easy to play for the club – unless you are strong mentally and can take the heat and the criticism.
The lads will be starting to realize that now, and also that it’s even more difficult for a manager, when things are not going well.

It was Janmaat turning his back for the second. I think Dummet lacks confidence, but I also think he has very limited abilities. Yesterday however he made a numb of clearances, some of which prevented a good chance for them.
Optimistic,
Tiote is great when on his game. I’d give him back the captaincy and let Colo concentrate on defending. Cisse has mainly scored goals as a lone centre forward. That was his role in Germany, and France before. I’d be happy for him to play like that provided we have width and at least 1 other player making the runs from deep. There is nothing wrong with a well executed 4231, but with the players we have we have to have the 3 pushed high up, rather than deep as we seem to use.
I haven’t seen anything of Rivi to make me think he can do a job up front. Maybe give him a shot on the left instead of Goofy, but I am far from convinced. Even just holding the ball up, and keeping play Cisse was more effective in his cameo, and that has been one of Cisse’s weak points.

Dummett wasn’t getting forward as much as hadaira and santon would, that might itself sound bad but at the minute it’s just what we need.
The problem for our attacking full backs is the CDMs are going to be busy giving assistance to the CB, so with the CDM having to protect the CBs and the middle of the pitch, it means we will need to see the wide men tracking back when the ball is lost as the FB will be needing to run all the way back up the pitch before a opposition winger gets himself there for the pass.
another problem about our overall team is it has a shortage of pace, the only one who i think has any pace is obatan but we don’t want to see him playing, all these players have came from leagues which play a slow game, the premier league is anything but slow.
so if the FB are consistantly running up and down the pitch they’ll end up tired by the 70th minute and pardew will have to take him off and bring a pair of fresh legs as FB, so it’s one less attacker brought on as sub.
at the end of the day if a winger, CM and forward are not meant to put work efforts into retrieving the ball then shouldn’t a FBs job be about defending more than about attacking.

Tiote played the most passes of anyone on the pitch – almost double of any Hull player – stands to reason the odd one would go astray. Even then, only 13 did meaning he completed more than anyone on the pitch even played. Decent accuracy record. To say he kept giving it away is completely incorrect.

Comment #86I honestly think this year anyone can beat anyone. ALL teams now have very good players, because ALL of them can afford 5-10 mil players. Liverpool, without Suarez (and with the most overrated player in the history of football – go on, guess!) has 3 defeats, Swansea Southampton have played EQUALLY well to the big boys, even Chelsea – Man City often look pedestrian if faced with sound tactics. Man U will buy themselves out of trouble.
Everton have looked good, despite draws… Arsenal? Same old.

I don’t got to matches any more and haven’t for a while. I don’t knock the people who had banners
but the best protest is not going. I used to go to be entertained.

I agree. A full back’s primary job should be defending. However, the way the game has evolved has led to them becoming one of the key players on the pitch. A top quality full back offers defensive solidity whilst also offering an outlet and extra body when going forward.
As you say though, in our current malaise, it is far more important for the full back to ensure he does his primary job effectively. So I have no problem if Dummet doesn’t offer as much offensively as we try to regroup. Still, he is also limited defensively, although I thought he did okay yesterday.
On your point re pace, I don’t think we lack pace as such. Goofy is no slouch, nor Sissoko, Rivi, Janmaat plus Santon and Haidara. Cisse is also quick in short bursts which is all he really needs to be. I think the difference from coming from the French/Dutch/A.N. other leagues is the speed of thought and reaction. That is what you have far less of in the Prem and that is one of the reasons people tend to take time to adapt.

I’d be up for Rivierre replacing Gouffran
I’m not a big fan of our current 4231 as we seem to have massive gaps in between the def mid etc that could be down to the players we use, I’d prefer 433.
We’d all play a different team and formation, I’d def drop Gouffran as he seems to have lost his way.

As I said, it isn’t the formation that is the problem when we play 4231. It is the mentality. If we played a 433 with the same mentality as we do the 4231 then there would still be huge gaps all over the pitch, and we would be very stretched.
I’d give Rivi a chance there, but only because other than him performing there, he wouldn’t be anywhere near my first 11. I’d prefer Arma to play a striker role then him.

I vote for Pav to recruit our next manager 🙂

Ye I’m in same boat as you about Rivierre maybe in a front 3 or as you suggested out left, he certainly doesn’t look like he can play upfront on his own.

Comment #95Some comments on here are ridiculous splitting hairs about tiotes pass completion rate and giving too many opportunities to the opposition as evidence of how poor we are. Every team in the league does this. Our problem is finishing chances because our main strkers have been out injured. People need to stop being so effing negative. Forget about pardew and ashley and just support whatever team they put out or dont. Im sure theres more impotant things in life to worry about!
