Sickness Bug Strikes Newcastle Squad – Three Players Out

News today on the Newcastle web-site that three Newcastle players have been hit by a sickness bug, and will therefore not make the trip to London for the Capital One Cup tie tomorrow night at Crystal Palace.

Tim Krul – his by sickness bug

The three to miss the trip are Tim Krul, Papiss Cisse and Yoan Gouffran and all three played in the 2-2 draw against Hull City on Saturday, but have been struck by the sickness big – but what it exactly is we don’t know – other than it’s a virus.

All three turned up for training this morning but were immediately sent home from the Benton Training ground, in an effort to stop the sickness from spreading to other team members..

Krul played at Gillingham in the 2nd round of the League Cup, so we expected him to be in the side tomorrow night, but it will now mean that Rob Elliot will get his first run-out of the  season.

It also means that the player who is our top scorer after playing only 21 minutes this season – Papiss Cisse with two goals –  will miss the game – so a good question is where will the goals come from – your guess is as good as mine.

Aston Villa were hit by a sickness bug last week and Paul Lambert put that down as the reason the side lost 3-0 at home to Arsenal, as their training schedule had been disrupted – and in fact all three goals came in a four minute spell in the first half.

The last thing we need at the moment at Newcastle is to have players unavailable for the game at Stoke next Monday night because of sickness – where the team must avoid a defeat – and try to pick up some points to get us off bottom place in the league.

Well, surely he has no choice now but to change the system.

Either sammy, rivvy and perez star up front, or rivvy and perez as a front 2.

If that ferreyta is available, might as well give him a try, too.

Cisse was never going to play anyway. Goofy could do with the break, and is one of those I would have left out anyway, and Krul well, I’m fine with Elliot playing this game.

Would rather see Arma given game time then any of those you mention as the attacking players. Arma with Perez/Sammy/Cabella offering support to him.

Villa had similar issues over the weekend. If it is the same thing then there may be more to drop out yet.

I would have been tempted to play Cisse just to give him another outing and improve match fitness.

    Janmaat – Taylor – Colo – Haidara
    Anita – Colback – Abeid
    Perez – Rivi – Obertan

I think Obertan showed some good skills pre season so why not start him? Perez def needs more game time as 2 mins here and 5 mins there are not gonna show what he is all about. Bring on Arma for Rivi if we are winning (big if though) as well as maybe Raylor for DJ if he is back in training now.

Percy hasn’t really used viruses yet as an area of excuses. I’m sure in the coming weeks he’ll exploit this potential new area of excuses.
The pro Percy Brigade will offer their undying support in all circumstances to Percy – even if he said the new bug was a case of mild ebola disease..

I appreciate your opinion on Ings, Boyd, Nugent and Ulloa but I’d only take the latter in that list. It’s so hard to judge players and let’s face it these are distinctly average players in a toothless side like ours. I’ll reserve judgement until we actually start supporting our strikers

Players that have had barren spells under pardew are mainly strikers, from Tevez through to Papiss and now Riviere. Time will tell but the running theme in misfiring CF’s is a shite defensive minded manager who thinks he is Jose Mourinho

Gotta play 2 up front – based on who we have left & Riverie apparently being rested it can only be Arma & Ayoze.

2 out of Cabella / Obertan / Sameobi on the wings and 2 from Anita / Colback / Abeid & Sisokko in CM.

It really demonstrates how weak we are in depth when the likes of Obertron will get a game.

    Janmaat colo taylor Haidara
    Cabella sissoko abeid Perez
    Riviere ferreyra

Tioti and colback seem 2 get injuried quickly so I’d give them a rest.

Ferreyra must be used in this game. If he’s not given a chance, he’s just gonna rust away. We need goal scorers in the team.

Riviere I think would be a good link between mid and attack when two up front.

I’m glad cisse is out because of it, the last thing we want to do is rush him back and he gets injured again
