News today on the Newcastle web-site that three Newcastle players have been hit by a sickness bug, and will therefore not make the trip to London for the Capital One Cup tie tomorrow night at Crystal Palace.
Tim Krul – his by sickness bug
The three to miss the trip are Tim Krul, Papiss Cisse and Yoan Gouffran and all three played in the 2-2 draw against Hull City on Saturday, but have been struck by the sickness big – but what it exactly is we don’t know – other than it’s a virus.
All three turned up for training this morning but were immediately sent home from the Benton Training ground, in an effort to stop the sickness from spreading to other team members..
Krul played at Gillingham in the 2nd round of the League Cup, so we expected him to be in the side tomorrow night, but it will now mean that Rob Elliot will get his first run-out of the season.
It also means that the player who is our top scorer after playing only 21 minutes this season – Papiss Cisse with two goals – will miss the game – so a good question is where will the goals come from – your guess is as good as mine.
Aston Villa were hit by a sickness bug last week and Paul Lambert put that down as the reason the side lost 3-0 at home to Arsenal, as their training schedule had been disrupted – and in fact all three goals came in a four minute spell in the first half.
The last thing we need at the moment at Newcastle is to have players unavailable for the game at Stoke next Monday night because of sickness – where the team must avoid a defeat – and try to pick up some points to get us off bottom place in the league.
