Over the last two or three years Sammy Ameobi has promised much at times, but he just hasn’t come through, and time is about up for the 22 year-old younger bother of former Newcastle veteran Shola Ameobi.
Sammy Ameobi – time almost up at Newcastle
And news that Alan Pardew has warned Sammy that he must improve quickly, if he is to save his Newcastle career.
In Shola Ameobi’s fourteen seasons in the first team one thing that was obvious he was very inconsistent and din;t make the most of his talents.
In one game Shola was great and in another he looked hopeless, and it seems that Sammy is not unlike his brother, and it’s difficult to know how Sammy will perform in any one game.
This is what Alan Pardew has said about the former England U21 International today:
“He comes on and changes the game a little bit. He runs up the pitch, takes players on and that is what we want.”
“Sammy is a player who has unbelievable talent and we have been waiting and waiting for him to deliver something. ” “I warned him this week I am running out of time with him, and he is running out of chances.”
Sammy has been capped 5 times for the England U21 side and has played 40 times for the Newcastle first team with two goals
Sammy’s contract runs out next June, and it is likely his contract will not be renewed, and he could be the second Ameobi to leave the club within a year, after Shola left over the summer.
Unless Sammy starts to play great this season (which we hope he does), it’s hard to see how he will earn a new deal on Tyneside.
What do you think?

Comment #1Theres something about this boy though , he has qualities with the ball at this that just have so much potential I honestly dont know whats holding him back ?
Could it be Pardew or attitude / application from the player ?Probably a combination of both
He played well last season for a few games got injured and never got a look in but Gouffran needs dropped for a few games or played as a striker and Sammy should get his chance on one wing and Aarons on the other side that would be really exciting with Cabella and Cisse feeding off the wing play

Comment #2Santon- you could say it’s Pardew and I don’t think you’d get any argument. So many youngsters seem to fall by the wayside under his watch.

Comment #3@toonicle: Sure, but you could also say he’s an Ameobi and that’d also be difficult to argue against.

Gouffran
Williamson
Both Taylor’s
Obertan
These should all be shipped out and replaced with quality. I’d keep Williamson only as a 3rd choice centreback.

Comment #8In my opinion, youngsters will never succeed under this manager because he is too frightened to give them a sustained run of games to prove themselves.
The same will happen to Aarons Armstrong Satka and Campbell, all who the potential but not allowed to express themselves because the manager is afraid.
Just watch what would happen if a quality coach/manager replaces Pardew in the future and tells the kids, go out and play and show no fear. I am certain we would have a few successes.

Comment #15We have to remember this is the Premier League and youngsters really do need to take their chances if given the opportunity. We are not a top club in the top six here where we can bleed alot of youngsters in and give them games and carry them for sustained periods of time. We need results first and foremost.
Sammy has had a hell of alot at this club and a big part of that I think is down to the amount of time Shola spent at the club rather than unbelievable talent should we say.
For me he has never set the place alight or give me a reason to shout about him. He is one of a number of players for me taking up a squad number where there should be a quality experienced Pro in there as cover.
As I listed above, those players should be moved on. At a club this big we shouldn’t be carrying players not good enough. But it’s a cheap option I guess for Mike Ashley to fill the 25.
Without a doubt though the quality in depth is just not there. You only have to look at the bench recently to see that. The transfer structure is all wrong and we are very much limited once injuries occur.
Just look at the De Jong scenario right now as an example because we do not have another player with vision and his experience in top flight football. Or what we have been like without Cisse.
And luckilly he came good in the last game.
Always lacking this club. The balance and quality in depth in the squad sets us up for failure before we even kick a ball at the start of the season.

Comment #17About Sammy Ameobi. He has 1.96 cm and Parde plays him as a winger.Look at the world football atlas and you’ll never find this kind of example.Maybe striker is his only attacking option because his physique is very very limited for playing football.Dumb Parde.

I agree with you to a certain extent but I am currently watching a replay of the Leicester Man Utd game and the stamina, passion, pace, movement and pressure shown by a team of kids, lower level players and journeymen totally embarrassed a multi million pound assembled superstar team through endeavour, determination and the lack of the fear factor. Marvellous to watch. The man of the match, Jamie Vardy, apparently was playing sunday league football 3 years ago.
What I am saying is that Pardew sets our team up to contain because he is frightened. We have some quality players and damn good kids, who if coached properly and given the opportunity similar to the way Leicester have, then I could see better results achieved.
I have coached football at a reasonable level for many years and I have always filled my team with a good blend of youth and experience. My message to my team has always been based around them worrying about us rather than the other way around. The message to my kids: go out and enjoy yourselves and play with pride and no fear. Listen to the senior pros on the pitch and remember what we have done in training and mist of all, let them worry about us.

Comment #19I don,t have amy confidemce at all in Pardew at this moment.
He is continually playing squads where all the players are out of position, where they are not used to playing with the expected result .
We used to call Shola the “Mackem Slayer”!
Pardew is “The Talent Slayer”!
Pardew has had and wasted so much talent in his tenure at the club, and continues doing so ! He has a talent for that . He would make Messsi look average and probably play him out on the wing?
Any prospective player who we show any interest in signing for us just know that they will get pissed around, right from the start with Pay, conditions and can be sure that they will be asked to play totally out of position in any game !
We fought back from 0-2 down last saturday, which had everything to do with the drive of the players and nothing to do with anything that Pardew ?
The thing is though, he is arrogant and dum to believe that he aint done anything wrong ?
No chance wednesday against Palace i believe we will lose again !

Comment #20The capital one cup? At this point? Given our plight? Who cares, really. Use this to try and bed in some players, try to get players playing some kind of tactics, yes. If we win, cool, if not, concentrate at the real task at hand. We are in danger unless we start winning some games in the PL. Have you seen our next 5 games? How many of those can we actually win? This is serious stuff. The cup can wait. Sorry for the cup die-hards.

Comment #21On Sammy. There’s enormous talent there, his size and skill make him look likes he’s playing against boys sometimes, the way he brushes opponents aside. I would definitely renew his contract and give him more chances. Will he come good? No idea… Think about the chances, the number of games Obertan got in hope that he would one day dribble past his first player 🙂
– For anyone wondering, he didn’t.

Comment #24I think Sammy is a championship standard player at best, but that’s ok for us as we will probable be playing there next season. If somehow the inept one keeps us up, then there are a few players including Sammy that need to be shipped out and replaced with some quality players.
This team has never looked good, and there is not a lot of competition for places, we have a complacent side led by and inept manages and a captain who goes missing most games.
Sounds like a bad sitcom.

Comment #25On Sammy, he s very much like his brother when he first broke through. Lots of tricks, flashes of brilliance, can go past a man, but also the same inconsistencies and probably crucially the same problems with injuries and a lack of playing time.
He could have a decent career, but I think to do so he would have to drop down a level – although at this rate that could well be here….

Comment #27As for the league cup, I think Pardew is in a tough spot. If he plays a weakened team then he will be lambasted for not caring how we do in the cups. If he plays a full team, and someone picks up a knock, or the players look jaded on Monday, then he will be lambasted for not using his squad.
Personally, I’d like to see a few of the fringe youngsters given a chance. I would have liked to see Satka or Streete but that will be unlikely given they played the match last night. Arma didn’t so I would give him a shot, along with Perez and Abeid. These guys need game time if they are to progress.

I actually think this regime are doing more than previous ones to allow the youngsters to develop. It is the coaching standard between U18 academy and development squad that is the biggest problem here in my opinion.
We could get people out on loans a bit earlier, at 17/18 rather than 20/21, but the club are starting to do more – Woodman to Hartlepool is an example.
We haven’t had a group of talented youngsters come through since Keegan scrapped the reserves. Without question his most damaging decision during his time in charge at the club.
