Alan Pardew has named Mehdi Abeid, Adam Armstrong and Sammy Ameobi in the starting eleven tonight at Crystal Place in the Capital One Cup third round tie.
And a fairly strong bench includes Anita, Sissoko, Cabella Ferreyra and Perez.
Newcastle: (4-2-3-1): Rob Elliot; Daryl Janmaat, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Paul Dummett; Mehdi Abeid, Jack Colback; Gabriel Obertan, Adam Armstrong, Sammy Ameobi; Emmanuel Riviere
Substitutes: Jak Alnwick, Massadio Haidara, Vurnon Anita, Moussa Sissoko, Remy Cabella, Ayoze Perez, Facundo Ferreyra
Crystal Palace (4-2-3-1): Wayne Hennessey; Adrian Mariappa, Patrick McCarthy (c), Brede Hangeland, Zeki Fryers; Adlene Guedioura, Barry Bannan; Wilfried Zaha, Jonathan Williams, Dwight Gayle; Kevin Doyle
Substitutes: Lewis Price, Joel Ward, Peter Ramage, Martin Kelly, Sullay Kaikai, Jake Gray, Andrew Johnson
Referee: Robert Madley (West Yorkshire)
But we still think the team could have been stronger given we don’t play our next game until Monday night at Stoke City, and we would have liked to have seen Sissoko and Cabella both start this game.
Tim Krul, Papiss Cisse and Yoan Gouffran were rules out with a virus and didn’t travel with the squad to London for tonight’s game.
Williamson and Tiote will play no part tonight since they are not even on the bench, and with Cheick struggling with cramp on Saturday we expected him to be given a rest for this game.
We’re not sure if this team will be good enough to get through the tie that could see us in the last 16 of this competition – we hope so.
It’s good to see young Adam Armstrong get the start and maybe he can score some goals for us – but it would also be good if Manu Riviere can open his account at the club.
And Argentine striker Facundo Ferreyra is finally on the bench.
It looks like Newcastle will play in their familiar 4-2-3-1 formation with young Armstrong playing the number 10 role as the withdrawn striker behind Riviere.
