…..and against a team that is almost bound to struggle this season and had made 11 changes from its weekend league fixture.

It’s good to win and nice to see some genuine spirit, but it probably just confirms how ordinary the squad is.

I know Newcastle only buy when it suits them, even to its own detriment, but this side does badly need more quality in at least two positions.

Good win away from home in a cup, terrible draw for the best round though.

As for tonight I think everyone did ok, abeid’s sending off was disappointing from him, should have been a bit smarter.

Also thought Armstrong had a good game, he assisted the first goal, simple ball into rivière. Got another assist for the 3rd goal and in between then had a very good 25 yard shot just kept out….very solid full debut.

Fantastic ball and run for winner.

A Draw FFS Glad were through but made hard work of it. Two pointless subs could have lost us the tie. No need to deny a chance at a hat trick 🙁

    Toonbrother,

Are we therefore not counting his pass to riviere for the first? As Ts has pointed out below. And totally ignoring his assist for the third?

You are now saying that his performance was average, whereas earlier you stated that he was average with regards to his ability. I merely pointed out that the players you mentioned are also average with regards to ability.

It seems you are having trouble sticking to your own argument, changing it to suit what you want.

Ameobi did not perform better than amrstrong. They were about level I would say. Obertan and abeid stood out above everyone.

Tonight’s performance show that we can match other teams, and players like rivière can score goals it might have taken him a few games but at last he has started, with him and cisse both off the mark hopefully this will kick start our season.

I’m so glad that he scored two goals tonight if he had more help around him in the other matches he would have had more.

Abeid and Armstrong showed they could be the eyes of this squad. They got in position and picked out passes to open men. How refreshing! Hope Colbeck paid attention to that, and Cabella learned a few things watching form the bench. Could happy days be ahead?

    @Dazzler Re:above
Kindly provide a quote from me saying he is average “with regards to his ability” . I only recall saying he was distinctly average Period. I may be suffering from mild amnsesia though so please jog my memory for me.

    Thanks in advance

Very happy with the result, it’s good to see the team showing the commitment what is expected from them.

Over the moon for Riviere. But I do understand the level of tonights cup tie and the Premier League games is where he really needs to find his feet and put the ball in the back of the net. Still, I t can only do him good.

Overall, great game. We showed the desire and commitment to win and we seen it through. I do think we are lacking as a squad though and can see us struggling against top Premier League opposition and some of the more mid table outfits also if we recieve any sort of injuries to key players.

De Jong and Santon back asap please. We are lacking quality on the bench.
