One of the real concerns we have at Newcastle this season, is the longer we stay near or in the relegation zone, the more difficult it will be to get out of it – and one reason for that is there is mounting pressure on the players in every game we do not win, and that makes it difficult for them to play at their best.
Alan Pardew deep in thought on Saturday
And after a while every poor result makes the hole we are in that much deeper.
And manager Alan Pardew has talked about that phenomenon today, following our rather lucky 2-2 draw at Swansea on Saturday, when if truth be told – we were second best for long periods of that game.
This is what Alan has said:
“The media will take whatever tone they want on it.” “I think anybody who seen us will know the players are giving everything.”
“OK, we’d like to have a bit more confidence and play with a bit more belief at times.” “And I would as well.” “But we are where we are.”
“The pressure on us makes it difficult to play.” “We had periods where we looked edgy and nervous which is understandable.” “The only thing you can do is keep fighting and we certainly had that.”
“I’m not here to score points in terms of me as a manager.” “I just want the team to win and try to find a solution for the players to help them.” “It’s my job to help them prove and get better results.”
What Newcastle United need are wins – as Pardew alludes to – and it’s really as simple as that – but much easier said than done.
We have had a leaky defense so far this season, with Colo and Willo looking vulnerable at the back, and we have nobody other than Papiss Cisse who can score Premier League goals for us at the moment, so we have problems both at the back and up front.
Apart from that we are in great shape. 😀
We didn’t replace Loic Remy in the summer, and we didn’t strengthen our weak defense – so we are now paying the price for that this season.
We just have to hope we can start pulling away from the bottom of the league, and that some of our players – both new and old – can start to find their best form – very soon.

just to give Mag 52 some backing I think Pardew is as basically decent a man as football usually produces. He can be his own worst enemy but don’t kid youself that Pulis, Redknapp Moyes or other recent betting front runners are that much different as men.
Ability is something else perhaps. Football is awash with all of the types (in different combinations) you label him with I’m afraid.
Still of the definite opinion be careful what you wish for. I wish for a new manager who Mike finally lets be his own man with a realistic kitty but I don’t believe in Santa after last Christmas 🙂

Comment #82I find it rather coincidental that when the club’s PR juggernaut is in hyperdrive and spinning every possible angle they can think of, all these lovely posters suddenly appear as if out of thin air either saying “I’m not sure on Ashley” “has he done that badly” “parsnip isn’t as bad as some say” when quite clearly all the evidence points to the contrary.
They are both culpable in our current disgusting run of form and anyone who says parsnip has done a good job “under the circumstances” is either blinkered to the point of they’d cut their own nose off to spite their face or just burying their head in the sand because they just don’t want to see or deal with the inescapable fact that we are heading for a great big fat fcukoff season/seasons of nothingness.
Nothing new there then.

Comment #83One more – thanks Mecannylad especially as I totally agree with you about Chris Mort. A forgotten good guy.
Best ever appointment under Ashley or any other owner in a non-managerial capacity. Perhaps he had already seen the signs and his law career beckoned him even harder.
Where might we have been with his continued commonsense and communication skills.

Comment #95Ah yes the missing link in human evolution rears it’s head. How is the ocean this evening?
Bit murky? Swimming through a tidal wave of brown stuff also known as excrement. Don’t worry yourself little single cell amoeba, the tide will slowly subside leaving a tranquil, almost surreal setting allowing you to thrash around on that little beach of yours till your hearts content. Bless.

Thanks for the tip but you probably missed my piece in the essay that I had been a blog reader since the start so am well aware of the mostly brief posts.
What I hadn’t realised was that there was some kind of quota for here compared to the competition. If others wish to engage in longer debate rather than the usual quick thrusts such as yourself then there is room for us all.
I note that the little jests that gave rise to your username are mostly gone and you comment more widely and interestingly now – good it was getting tedious (just my opinion) but you arrived at that by youself without any steer.
I read the Mag magazine for years but the web version is full of poorer arguement than on here. Makes my blood boil more than some on here. See no reason to switch loyalty. Mind you their tick system for posts might be interesting on here 🙂
Basically I write what I feel and people will read as much or as little as they want. Having got that lot off my chest earlier I might post more sparingly and more regular but as usual I will make my own mind up.
I am satisfied with all the responses I generated and whilst it took time to write it takes longer to keep up with the cut and thrust of this type of engagement or seem rude.
No offence taken and I am sure none intended 🙂

Manager speak is what this is Laurent, nothing more, nothing less. The sort of pre-season hype you get from any manager to enthuse the troops in the build up to the season ahead.

Comment #102It’s actually beyond me how people still have supposed “faith” in Pardew. This bloke is no more than what he is-a championship manager. He is also a lying, arrogant, gutless tw@. And people forget, this man is in the position that Sir Bobby Robson was once in. I think that says it all.

Comment #103There’s a duty of care and a social responsibility that comes with owning Newcastle Utd, indeed any football club, but particularly Newcastle, being such a fundamental part in the lives of those who hail from here, and with it being a one club town, with spit and sawdust roots, and with its size and relative lack of success, …….or there should be, and will increasingly and unavoidably be, in this age of greater accountability, scrutiny, and transparency. Social media as it is.
Ashley needs to do more, whether he likes it or not. I can’t see this ending well for anybody, if he doesn’t, and he certainly can, quite easily, with his wealth and business acumen.

Comment #106Mag52, nice excuse for him there, just brushing it off no problem ‘ey? Just manager talk? Nonsense. It’s just more ego fuelled talk followed by lowering the bar cowardice.
How about this one?
28/03/14 – BBC
“Put on top my personality – which we all know is a little bit of a winning mentality – and I want to make sure we want to win.”
Yet…
#nufc 2014 form – W5 D5 L16… W19% D19% L62%… collected 26% of points, average 0.77 points per game, equivalent of 29 points in a season.
Abysmal record breaker extraordinaire as he was before he got here. Winning mentality? I doubt it. Conman.
The more the excuses flow for him, the more these types of results will continue.
If he’d gone after the Reading game, none of these hammerings would have taken place.

It is true that the urge to stick Pardew’s head on a spike has become so blood-curdling and tiresome as to leave its flanks wide open to a disciplined, well-marshalled, and reasonable counter-attack.
The situation cries out for for it. Smart spot.
So it is almost possible to overlook the skill with which you skate over the special-pleading with which your Honest John article is so deliciously laced.
One could almost forget that we are already six points below mid-table. Last season it took five months to fritter away a 10-point cushion, during which, on relegation form, we dropped just two places.
The reverse will be true this season.
My best guess would be that you are insincere.

I realise why I don’t usually post as this goes on and on. What a mistake to have one last look on the net.
However you have taken the trouble to wade through my diatribe so I feel it would be ungentlemanly of me not to respond to a poster of the fairer sex ( I hope I recall that correctly apologies if not) even at this late hour.
I thought I had drawn the sting of all of the potential name calling I could get but you have out witted me “insincere” eh? Unfortunately you are just as wrong with that as my other lighthearted possibilities. So you will have to sharpen up on your guesses.
You do have me on your analysis however as I take it serious but can’t work out how you arrived at your conclusion. I hope some of my sarcasm hasn’t been misread or is it you think I want Pardew burnt at the stake but am shy to say?
I am worried at what I see as Ashley’s gambling with our future (again) this season. I believe he thinks he has it covered but we have come unstuck before. Notwithstanding my attempt at understanding of what he is doing I do not fully share his apparent optimism but merely sought to reflect what I thought it may be.
Last season’s diabolical collapse is certainly not lost on me how could it – thank god season’s don’t run on a calender year.
My post arose from conversations with family over my aggravation about regular and repeated calls for Pardew’s head without adding to the debate. An echoing deja vu every day on the blog – give me a break.
I have posted similarly long points of view over the years but it takes a build up before I can be stirred to get it all out. A spent volcano after a few light hearted jousts later is now dormant. Even I don’t know for how long. But this repartee takes even more time than I imagined – my first and possibly last exchange until an essay comes on.
Apart from Ed changing the threads requiring reposts I really do think we have the makings of an alternative to The Mag ‘s articles so to the headline writers out there don’t feel frightened get off the mobile phone key board and onto atablet or laptop and fly. The water’s lovely – sorry to mix metaphor’s but it is a reference to an earlier post aimed at me I believe but some on here are so cryptic I am probably taking someone else’s digs but I have broas shoulders.
Anyway a sincere response for your digestion hope I pass the test.
