Newcastle Would Be Foolish To Pay £7M For This Striker

There’s continued news in the press that Newcastle may try to bring Bafetimbi Gomis to Newcastle in January, and pay the £7M release clause in his contract to get him to Tyneside.

Bafe Gomis – has £7M release clause in Swansea contract

This is a player that we had ample time to buy during the summer of last year, but then Director of Football Joe Kinnear dithered around, and then there was news the striker was asking too much in wages.

We’re not sure what the real reason was for Newcastle not bringing him in last summer, but when he was a  free agent this summer, we didn’t seem to go after him.

That doesn’t seem logical for a player we were willing to pay out £9M for last year – that when he was available as a free agent one year later we didn’t go after him aggressively.

What seems like a more ambitious club than Newcastle these days – Swansea City – snapped him up in th summer, much like they beat us to  another Newcastle target, Wilfried Bony,  the summer before.

And to think back in 2003 when Swansea were fighting to stay in the English fourth division, Newcastle were playing in the Champions League and had finished 3rd top of the Premier League under the great Sir Bobby Robson.

How times have changed for both clubs. 🙁

Bafetimbi Gomis cannot dislodge Wilfried Bony from the first team at Swansea  this season, and the Frenchman has so far played five games with one goal for Swansea, after being at Lyon for five years.

And back in 2008, when Bafe Gomis was at St. Etienne – Newcastle were interested in signing him, before he moved to Lyon the following summer.

If we couldn’t get him signed in the summer, it would be foolish and a waste of money to pay out £7M for him this January, even though we still need to bring in some strikers in January, who can score some goals for us.

What do you think – and which are the strikers we bring in over the January transfer window – apart from Andy Carroll.

I could see us going in for Defoe on a short-term/loan deal if he’s made available from Toronto, especially if results don’t pick up any time soon and we’re down the bottom of the league. Not the usual type we’d go for but we’ll need that magical premier league experience!

First of all:Andy Carrol is not a striker. He is a waste of space.
2.I think this player is a good player and will be excellent pair with Demba Cisse at least two or three years. He is at tender age but Drogba plays for Chelsea currently, too.
3.I think he’ll maybe the best striker option in January if available.

barkel_if you look at some of the squads there are heaps of players who could do a job for us short term until the new signings get up to speed

Gomis or not,the next striker in Newcastle MUST possess one thing. That is SPEED.If he doesn’t have speed he can’t play along with Cisse and will repeat LDJ-Cisse partnership(two slow players).Speedy striker to Cisse and Newcastle leads 1-0.

Why on earth would we want Andy “Permacrock” Carroll back??
He has played how many games since he left NUFC???
It would be lunacy to sign him – so no doubt it will happen!!!

I’ve never wanted to see us lose but the more this season unfolds, the more attractive relegation appears.
Another spell in the Championship will bring down the asking price and the advertising value to Monster Mash and therefore our best chance to shake him off. It will give some of our current promising youngsters a chance to cut their teeth. We would shed a few big wage earners while reshaping the way we play under a new gaffer. The fans would also reclaim their connection with the club, new shirt sponsors etc. The academy plans are already in place.
Of course, it all depends on getting a new owner who is smarter and more connected than the current one and able to plan for a progressive management and coaching team. Unlike the last relegation, Monster Mash’ finances are so healthy that we can’t ‘do a Leeds’. Either he sells up to someone else or he would have to fund our revival himself.

Gomis is useless. There were idiodic fans calling for him to be signed previously. He isn’t fit to lace Ba’s boots.
