Newcastle On The Trail Of Next Thierry Henry

It should not come as no surprise that Newcastle want to bring in another striker in January, and it remains to be seen where we will be in the league by early next year, after we failed to replace Loic Remy from last season’s team.

Is he signalling Newcastle are number one?

In the summer our top three striker targets were Loic Remy, Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Alexandre Lacazette, but the first two ended up at Chelsea and Hamburg respectively, and Alexandre signed a new deal to stay at Lyon.

And we see that Loic Remy has only three appearances for Chelsea so far this season, with one goal.

We’re afraid the pulling power of Newcastle United for top players these days is just not what it used to be. 🙁

Newcastle had scouts at the France and Holland’s U21 sides during the week, and it’s always difficult to know exactly which players Newcastle are looking at.

The Chronicle is suggesting today that we were watching FC Twente striker Luc Castaignos, who we have been linked with for about three years now.

The 22 year-old has made 90 appearances for his Dutch club with 36 goals and 11 assists, and that’s not too bad a record. and he has 15 appearances for the Dutch U21 side with 6 goals.

In fact Luc has 50 appearances for Dutch youth sides since 2008 with 27 goals, which is a good record.

Luc started his career at Feyenoord and was then transferred to Inter Milan, before coming back to Holland two years ago and signing for FC Twente, and so far this season he has five goals in just eight appearances for his club.

We need a striker brought in during January, and it’s very unlikely to be Andy Carroll, so Luc Castaignos looks like one contender.

Luc is the all-time top scorer of the Holland U17 national team with 13 goals in 17 appearances, and in the 2009 UEFA European U-17 Football Championship he was the top scorer in the tournament.

Luc’s style of play has drawn heavy comparisons with the great French striker Thierry Henry.

So, a 22 year old is to be our saviour?? Somehow, I doubt it.

Mag52 @15 – I agree, MA has shown he will only sell at his valuation and it is more likely a potential buyer will purchase if the club is making large profits. Hence the need for NUFC to stay in the PL. MA has set the pattern of not over spending, so the least expensive option would be to add players and/or a new member of staff.

It doesn’t matter who Newcastle are looking at or being linked with, the simple face is we have a team that if use correctly and allowed to gel we could be winning games.

It’s been obvious to the fans for the last couple of years that we need to play with two strikers. Out of what we have that could be Cisse up front with Riviere in his correct position as a supporting striker. with a midfield of Aarons (LW) Cabella (MC Playmaker) Tiote (DM (Capt)) Ameobi (RW), and a defence of Haidara (LB) Good (CB) Satka (CB) Janmaat (RB) we have experience mixed with youth, and speed all over the pitch. I know I have gone for youth at CB positions but they have to be better than what we have at the moment. But that leaves us with a very strong bench too.

Anyway that’s my two pennies worth.

Looks to me that he is signalling ‘Loser’ not ‘number 1’

Firebug, it looks a bit lightweight in some areas but i like the idea. Perhaps switch Williamson for Satka though ive not seen much of him. Goode is still injured though isnt he? Definately 2 up front.. Im not sure Ameobi on the Rw is the answer… Sissoko did ok there last year but i accept isnt really a winger.. Benny would have done the job or Scott Sinclair had we shelled out
