Newcastle are reported to be interested in Ipswich’s left-back, Tyrone Mings who started his career at the Southampton Academy as an eight year old.
Tyrone Mings – Newcastle interested
After leaving Southampton in 2009 and playing in non league football for three years, he was signed by Ipswich Town two years ago, and he has played very well this season, and was named the Championship Player of the Month in September.
Newcastle were also interested in Ipswich’s former left back Aaron Cresswell, who joined West Ham United in the summer and has looked a good player in London this season.
There is a report in the Sunday People that Newcastle have had scouts watching the player = but it’s always difficult to know which players Newcastle scouts are really after, when they are spotted at games.
Newcastle currently have two young left backs in Paul Dummett and Massadio Haidara, with Italian International Davide Santon expected back from injury in about six weeks.
However, left back is not a strength at the moment in the Newcastle side, and indeed we need to strengthen our back four in all positions, and that could be why Newcastle are tracking the 6’3″ tall Mings.
Crystal Palace were said to have offered £3M for the player on the last day of the summer transfer window, and we may see a bid in January from Newcastle, as we try to strengthen the defense, which is (again) conceding far too many goals this season.
Mings has played 31 times for Ipswich since making his debut on the last day of the 2012-2013 season against Burnley, and he is now a regular at the East Anglia club.
After the failed Palace attempt to sign him in early September, he signed a new three year deal at Ipswich, which keeps him at the club until 2017.
We could see a £4M bid from Newcastle for this player in January.

Comment #1It should be a new manager and coaching setup we’re scouting, not a left-back.

Very true.
As Shearer said if Ash cares so much why has he only appeared in the dressing room now after this PR guru Bishop arrived. He’s had 7 years to do it!
Leicester was another truly dire match to swallow, only saved by Obi silencing a few critics and Perez’s cameo.
Don’t get this having to win ugly BS. Is it not allowed to take the game to the opposition (a promoted team at home) from the 1st to the 94th minute?

Comment #3(1) Do our scouts inform the newspapers of the name of the player they have come to watch (without telling the players club) ?
(2) Or do the newspapers put two and two together and come up with three ?
(3) Or has the player’s agent provided some made up story (as he is in desperate need of money from the sale of his player) to a newspaper ?
I cannot believe newspapers and agents would do such things as (2) and (3) so it must be our scouts who spill the beans that we are looking for a left back to add to the three we already have!
