Magpies On Trail Of French U21 Midfield Star

The Sun is reporting that Marseilles defensive midfielder Giannelli Imbula is attracting a lot of interest with Newcastle one of the clubs interested in signing the 22 year-old midfielder.

Giannelli Imbula

Giannelli Imbula – Newcastle interested

But Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea and QPR are also interested in signing the Belgium-born France Under-21 international, who is said to be available at around £12M, which could even be within Newcastle’s range.

He has played 46 times for the French club, with three goals and two assists since moving there from Guingamp in the summer of 2013, and while at Guingamp he played 71 times with two goals and two assists.

It’s not the first time Newcastle have been linked with the player and it’s now about two years since we first became interested in the young defensive midfielder.

Giannelli made his professional debut in Ligue 2 back in October of 2009 for Guingamp against Dijon FCO, and became the youngest player in Ligue 2 history at 17 years, 1 month and 4 days of age (approximately).

In May of 2013, while he was still at Guingamp,  he was voted best player of Ligue 2, and he then joined Marseilles in July of 2013.

He has Congolese parents, was born in Belgium and has grown up in France, and that makes him eligible to play for any of these three countries.

The 6’1″ midfielder  has so far played 4 times for the France U20 side and 5 times for the U21 side.

But if Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea are really interested in the player it could be difficult for Newcastle to sign him.

We have an urgent need for a quality CB and a CF who can score goals, I guess buying yet another Defensive Midfielder will be the perfect solution to our problems!!

Not a cat in hells chance we will pay 12 mill for a midfielder when other positions are of a bigger priority.
calling the young lad back from Forest stinks of desperation as well

Jazzyp @ 6 – Are we actually able to recall the Loan player from Forrest? If we have signed a 1 season loan deal, as reported by both clubs, the chances are very remote indeed.

We sent him back to ensure we could actualy sign him at a good price and to let him develop under a system he was used to. Bringing him to SJP in the current circumstances and letting P45DUE loose on him could be the end of him!! Hopefully it wont happen.

Another one we’re keeping tabs on – and have been for a couple of years.

Ah, but now the ‘bigger’ clubs are sniffing around so we’ll have no chance of signing him – like what we should’ve done when we looked ay him previously!

Another one missed but then again, if he’s any good and wants to get better, it’s probably better he signed elsewhere – before Pardew ruins him!

Lascalles has been carrying a lot of injuries this season according to a few of my mates who are season ticket holders.
Just going on what was being reported in the press on bringing the lad back early mate but agree that I doubt there is a clause in the deal that allows us to terminate the deal early.
Hows it down on the south coast mate, have ya had the remnants of the hurricane ??

While on the subject of our Cb’s, I think Mapou has looked mighty impressive while at Roma this term and makes you wonder why he wasn’t played more often in his preferred central role.
For me Mapou and Lascalles makes for a better long term prospect than the ageing Colo and the Snail that is willo

Bigi is another pardewed disaster and the list is endless but the same players under proper managers look a totally different prospect.

Yeah agree with what your saying pal and hopefully Rolando can be an exception to the dinosaur coaching methods that Percy portrays at Nufc.

James and Palmer rate this lad very highly. And often compare him to a forest legend in the form of Des walker. So if he lives up to that bill then I would say we have a top prospect at the club

Pardew stated that he had a 60 million pounds war chest in the summer of which he spent 38 million. The sales of Cabaye and Debuchy financed most of that.

I was more impressed on motd2 extra where he basically laughed at a pardew for saying it was great Ashley went in the dressing room, proving he loved the club.

In not so many words Wor Alan was calling Ashley’s Alan pathetic, for a change I was impressed!

Looked like he had to control what he said after Pardews interview, I’m sure he’d say a lot more if pushed, maybe not on motd though.

On Lascalles, there was no point signing him to send him to Forrest when you consider how poor our main two CBS are, then to off load M’biwa was just criminal.

I’d love to see some players come in, but the question is who would they be replacing. Always the worry.

We build nout and never build on our top players. We sell them and bring in an up and coming in on lower wages.

Rinse and repeat. Gamble after gamble.

Needs time to adjust, needs to find his feet, they need time to gel, needs to relax a little more.. Bla bla bla…

All while scrapping at the bottom of the league missing our top players.

The future is bright folks, the future is bright..

Only a very poor manager would allow a experienced centre half go out on loan, when he has only three of the slowest in the premier league to pick from.

just been chatting to my mate james…..season ticket holder at Forest, I was wrong on the injury concerns over Lascalles. The reason he not getting much game time is because the lad has Mancienne and hobbs playing out of there skin at the back for the reds. Pearce has gone for experience over youth so maybe Lascalles might be released early especially if Steven taylor is thrown into the deal.

David king has had major talks today over investement.
King has been engaged in a long-running battle for control with the ruling regime at Ibrox and has recently found himself faced with a fresh rival in the shape of Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley, who has increased his stake in Rangers to nine per cent.

But last week it was revealed King had teamed up with another ex-director Paul Murray and wealthy supporter George Letham to launch a £16m investment plan.

Asked if he was optimistic his bid would be accepted, he told Sky Sports News HQ: “Yes we are.”

people seem to think , or want to think we’ve turnrd the cornrt with a hard fought 1-0 win over leicster- i dont , not in the slightest . if we had been playing a quality side last saturday , pards could well ohave been sacked. looking at the fixtures till the new year ,all the quality is coming 1 week after the other – bottom by new year and pardew on his bike.

A player is available for £12 million. That means the club will offer 5 for him and hope nobody else makes a bid, if he is still available in 6 months the offer will go up to 6 million. If 6 million is refused, and the player is still there in the next window, NUFC will then start reducing their offers again and keeping an eye on his contract running down. Meanwhile the club will be looking in other areas for the next Colback style deal.

I like this player but in january we can’t shop the european market! We’ll be in a relegation scrap. We need a few british players to create a balance!
I like the link to Ings, reminds me of shane long with his pace and work rate. Shouldn’t be judged by burnley struggling!
Also like the lad at palace – dwight gayle!
Personally i’d go for Shawcross at Stoke! Hes a fine centre half! Failing that i know Pardew has always like tomkins, seen him this season and hes a decent ball playing centre half who’d be an improvement on what we’ve got! Winston Reid from WH is also a great shout!
Also like Hughes and Thorne at Derby, Anya from watford and watson from Wigan.
We really need players that will adapt quicker to the northeast and to england. We can’t risk cheap african born french players that will take 3 months to adapt to culture!
If we have to sign french, Lille is a town most similar to england and its no coincidence our 2 best french imports came from there

January is still a long way off and being in any position of security even further off, so the main focus should be on the performances of the existing team. Keeping things short term, the next three matches of Spurs, ManC and Livpl, I am looking for Newcastle to be very difficult to beat. Judging by performances so far this will be an accomplishment and in order to achieve this IMO injuries will need to be minimised through careful management and the team will need to be thoroughly organised on the pitch. There is no expectations that we can win and the opposition have bigger fish to fry, it is the perfect opportunity to be a thorn in these teams sides and build on the success of our first win in too long a time.

    Jeff,

The same Gus Poyet who has a 100% win percentage over Alan Pardew?

Now neither manager is the worst in all three divisions, but it would be a bit rich to say either are better when they have both had similar success in their careers, which is none.

Fancy us to get a result against Spurs! Their form after euro league isnt great tho theyve got a gimme at home this time!
Pardew has better luck against better sides as his containment/cautious football tactics are suited to sides that will attack us!
Spurs look decent this year tho, the man city score wasnt representative of the game!

Don’t think much of liverpool this year tho, Suarez a loss but i think gerrard being a year older is their biggest loss!

Reckon man city will hit us for 6 though! Pardew will rest players and City are relentless! No doubt Pardew will blame Arma and Sammy for the routing we’ll get
