Newcastle United were interested in Leeds United left back Sam Byram over a year ago and news that we are still interested in the player.
Sam Byram – Leeds talented defender
footballleagueworld.co.uk (FLW) are saying that Newcastle are hoping to sign the 21 year-old player next summer to help strengthen the Newcastle defense.
Newcastle scouts were present at Carrow Road on Tuesday night in Leeds’ Sky Bet Championship clash with Norwich, and the assumption is we were watching Byram.
Arsenal are also interested in the young Englishman, who has played 90 times for Leeds with four goals over the last two years, since making his debut for United at Elland Road against Shrewsbury Town in August, 2012, when he was just 18.
Sam has been in excellent form for Leeds over the last two seasons and in April 2013, he won the Yorkshire Evening Post Player of The Season award with 99% of the vote, and he was also voted Leeds United Player of the Season.
Manchester City tried to sign him that summer for around £8M, but he said he wanted to stay at Leeds to help the club get promoted back to the Premier league.
And only last August, new Southampton manager Ronald Koeman said that Leeds had rejected a bid from them of £4.5M from to sign Byram.
So there are a number of clubs interested in this young promising English defender, and it could be difficult for Newcastle to win the race to sign him next summer.
