Great news today – Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew says that Ryan Taylor will be returning to the Newcastle squad this week, and it marks a long 26 months back from two serious knee injuries for the Liverpudlian, who has shown tremendous courage over that time.
Ryan Taylor – back in the Newcastle squad
As we had hoped Ryan will make the trip to London for the game against Tottenham on Sunday afternoon – and it will be great to see Ryan back soon in a black and white strip.
There’s certainly a possibility that Ryan could come on late in the second half on Sunday, depending on how the game is going – and it will be good to see those free kicks from the 30 year-old again.
This is what Alan Pardew had to say at this press conference today:
“Ryan Taylor should return this week.¨ “It’s an inspirational story. “I’m so pleased to put his name on the sheet to travel.”
“We will go back there with good memories.” “We went to Spurs last season and put in a fantastic performance.”
“We go to Spurs and have to be disciplined and offer a threat.¨ “It’s about trying to attack the game and get a win.”
Ryan played his full 90 minutes last Monday in the 3-1 U21 win over Brighton, and Ryan scored a penalty in that game, and it will be like having a new player at Newcastle once he returns.
Newcastle won 1-0 last season in this fixture, with Tim Krul putting in a world-class performance in goal, and it will take our defense to again be at or near their best – if we are to get anything out of the game.
A win is a possibility given that Tottenham played in the Europa League last night, but we would need to play very well to get a second win on the trot.
