Steven Taylor had another solid game in central defense for Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon in London, and in fact both Steven and Coloccini played really well for us, especially in the second half.
Two Geordies celebrate after win at Tottenham – love those smiles
Steven is approaching the form he was in back in 2012, when he got an England call-up, and Newcastle finished 5th top of the Premier League.
And that’s exactly what was needed, some of our players hitting form, especially at center-back, since we only have three experienced central defenders at the club at the moment.
This is what Steven said about the win at White Hart Lane:
“I’m just delighted for the lads – it’s been a good team effort.” “The main thing for us was getting that belief and confidence, and taking the game for them.”
“Sammy coming on was a breath of fresh air. He caused them so many problems – we knew we had to exploit the full-backs.” “They maybe had one shot in the second half – we felt comfortable, which is unusual at White Hart Lane.”
“We had to get on the front foot a bit more. We weren’t taking the game to them.” “They had too much time on the ball – they were spraying it around. We knew, with the players they’ve got, they’ll hurt you if you get time on the ball.”
“For us, I thought it was a well-deserved three points.” “The one thing I’ve done is wait for my chance,” “When you’re not playing, it’s a horrible time. You’ve got to knuckle down, work hard and wait for your chance.”
“When the manager gives you an opportunity, you’ve got to make sure you take it.” “I’m loving my football, and there’s nothing better than playing in front of 52,000 people. It’s where you want to be playing.”
“We’ll go to City with confidence,” “The fans want us to do well in the cups.” “For us, we’ve got to take it one game at a time.” “We’re going to get on the training ground and look forward to the game.”
Steven will not have good memories of the last time he played at the Etihad Stadium, since he was sent off just before half time in our first league game a year last August – when we were hammered 4-0.
Since that time Taylor has only made 14 appearances for the Newcastle side as big Mike Williamson has been preferred at center-back.
We’ve lost the last eleven games against City in all competitions, so that says we are due a win tomorrow night.
That’s right isn’t it? 😀
