Robbie Savage, Gary Lineker and Michael Owen seemed to be in awe of the Newcastle United fighting performance at the Etihad Stadium tonight, and it was a terrific 2-0 win for the Magpies.
Gary Linekar – the best I’ve seen Newcastle play in yonks
Robbie Savage had criticized Alan Pardew some weeks ago when he said that Alan Pardew looked a broken man after the 1-0 loss away to Stoke City.
But this is what Robbie said tonight, and he points out he said Alan still has the dressing room – interesting selective memory Robbie has:
“Newcastle were brilliant tonight!” “I got hammered on here a few weeks ago when I suggested that Alan Pardew still had the dressing room. I’m listening?”
Gary Lineker thought his performance was the bets he has seen the Magpies play in yonks – translated – a very long time:
“That is the best I’ve seen Newcastle play in yonks – amazing what a couple of wins can do.¨ “Newcastle’s Sissoko is the best Sissoko in the business. He is a hell of a player.”
And former Newcastle striker Michael Owen – who seems to be making a name for himself as a sensible pundit had this to say:
“Sissoko is a proper player. And I’m delighted for Ryan Taylor. I can’t begin to explain the hard work and pain he has gone through.”
Ryan is currently leading our Man of the Match poll and it was an amazing performance form the Liverpudlian tonight – Alan Pardew though he was simply brilliant tonight.
Things are continuing to look up for Newcastle but we must beat Liverpool on Saturday to make it four wins in a row.

First post since the match finished and even watched the highlights to make sure I wasn’t dreaming!
I’ll give credit to all the players and even a bit to Pardew, good tactics and had the players ready and in the right mood.
No negatives or critisim from me for today’s performance however I will say why don’t we perform with that sort of effort and pride in the shirt more often, if they team tried like that every game I’d never moan.
That out the way a brilliant performance on the pitch and I can’t beleive I’m saying this but Pardews got a few hard decisions to make on Saturday, Sammy for Rolando was a spot on call Sissoko looked a player. Can’t fault anyone today not even the manager.
Last of all I’d like to congratulate the toon fan who had £20 on 2-0 Aaron’s 1st goal, £20,020 not a bad result lad enjoy.

Comment #2We’ve got no excuse now, if we can beat the champions then we have got the squad really to match anybody, it’s all about confidence, and we proved that tonight.
i just want Aarons to sign a very very long contract, he’s going to be our very own sterling.

The only sterling that will be mentioned with Aaron’s is the sterling Ashley sells him for 😉

Chelsea and Norwich have won at the Etihad as well as Wigan and Man Utd in cup games.
Stoke beat them 1-0 in the league a month ago.

Comment #7Forgive me for getting carried away players will pat themselves on the back for the rest of the season for this one if recent history is anything to go by living on their laurels thats why they hobble from crisis to crisis under ap sorry for being down hearted but to many false dawns have happened during my time to every get carried away again.

Maybe the reason we don’t play like that all the time is because the players sense the overwhelming negativity and frustration of the fans.
It is now evident that this group of players thrive on confidence the fans show after a win….. a win at spurs no doubt influenced this great win tonight. Maybe if the fans would support their team like these last 2 games and not make them feel like we want their manager gone all the time we could have many more nights like this.

Comment #10Wow parallel universe is better than tbe normal one. Everything that hqs been wrong about us lately all went right tonight. Started with ketsys dream team. Pardews tactics spot on. Obertan should have had two. I have no words. Sure I will wake up for work to find we were stuffed 5-0.

Comment #11Was great hearing the fans singing obertans name, his confidence is high.
Many positives from the game, dummett looked composed at centre back, abeid showed he can compete with likes of toure, Aarons impresses again, Armstrong worked his socks off and needs more game time, Sammy again looked decent, plus much better from haidara and Janmaat. The fringe players and kids are good enough but we have to play that high energy style, when we don’t press teams the whole performance ends up being flat.
Still can’t believe Raylor played the whole game, can see what it meant to him and the players.

sammys deal runs out end of the season they should get him sorted first
given the performances of some of these so called fringe players compared to those in our main 11 I would like to see a bit more rotation cant see how goofy unless played upfront can even get on the bench with the form of others
really hope pards has a bit more faith in some of these players

i said a couple of weeks ago did you here that home roar when we scored and then the equaliser and then how we scored wat should’ve been the winner!
wat a force we actually have if we use it to our advantage!

You don’t think booing a manager everytime he stands up from the dugout till he sits down, calls for his sacking. Holds banners and signs up with his face on it calling for his sacking isnt relayed to the players? you don’t think they have internet access and read all this garbage on sites like this?
Another silly comment

Comment #22Dulcinera – no I don`t. At all. They are professional footballers, they see managers come and go. And I think they are intelligent enough to understand that while the fans may (rightly) consider the manager and his record worthy of dismissal, the fans always support the team. Thinking your post through before making suxch a basic mistake would help your credibilty no end.

That us a difficult question. We have a certain amount of depth, probably to stave off relegation but not enough to challenge the top 6.
Tonights performance was very encouraging but it will mean nothing if we lose the next 2 games.

Comment #33Pardew should drill tonight’s show into the players every time we play, if I was him i would just say look lads if you can win away to man city then you can win any where in the prem, just watching sky sports news just showed a nice clip of all the players in a group hug.

Loved it! What a game!
On quality in depth, Mid-table, always mi-table under the constraints of Ashley and injuries! 3 quality experienced Pro’s needed for anything else and the need to keep what we have also!
Which we know will never happen! Sell to buy always.
But enjoy these games and results all the same! Absolute quality!
Howay the lads!

Comment #38Absolutely brilliant performance from the lads! I’m chuffed, still can’t believe we actually beat Man City in their own back yard and with our kids! They had a near full strength team out and we had our reserves and still won 2-0.
It’s a funny old game football 😀
3 wins in a row!

Comment #40Manxpie – Ill stay long enough to entertain your question – the teamhas always been supported on here. Apart from the natural inclination to single out lack of commitment or ability onf certain players, the issue here has predominantly been one of Pardews` tactics (or lack of) hampering the team, in fact its support and concern for the state of nufc that has driven the call for getting rid of him.
The simplistic view is actually the one being proposed by you and dulcinera – that wanting to replace an inadequate manager somehow translates into withdrawing support for our team. Think it through.
