This Local Lad Looked Great On Wednesday Night

We couldn’t quite believe just how well Paul Dummett played at center-back on Wednesday night against the Premier league Champions and Capital One Cup holders Manchester City, and when the team was announced we were a little bit worried that Paul was in at center-back.

Paul Dummett – had a very good game on Wednesday night

But Paul was terrific, and the Welsh International played what has to be his best game in a Newcastle shirt – and maybe longer term center-back will turn out to even be his best position.

Paul has also revealed the Newcastle dressing room after the game was a little bit noisy:

“The music was pumping and everybody was buzzing. It is a brilliant result for us.” “We had a good result against Tottenham and we have come here and got a clean sheet against Manchester City, the champions of the Premier League.”

“For us it is a fantastic result.” “A lot of people would have written us off before the game. We had a lot of young players on show.” “I played centre-back and not in my natural position, so credit to us, we worked hard and deserved the win.”

Paul has played at center-back before, and he played there against Sunderland last season, but he was at fault for the first early goal – but after that he was solid enough in that game.

And it seems that Alan Pardew has seen his potential at center-back too, as the Newcastle manager had this to say after the game:

“He could end up playing center-back.”  “He was brilliant.”

We expect Paul to play his third game in six days tomorrow against Liverpool, and would expect him to start at left-back, with another Geordie lad – Steven Taylor – coming back into the side to partner Fab Coloccini in central defense.

Things could go flat again very quickly should we lose tomorrow to Liverpool, but we expect our lads to go all out for the win.

A fourth win in a row would be great – just great. 😀

    If (as expected) Cisse isn’t fit tomorrow, then I’d love to see Riviere playing alongside Arma or just ahead of Perez. Riviere will only show his true worth when he has someone alsongside him, and either Adam or Ayoze’s movement could rip the Liverpool CB’s a new one.

    Wow. That was almost optimism!

    @2 toonfan

    apart from cabella that i’d swap for rolando as he deserves to start imo that is spot on in the team i would choose also m8.

    i’d also consider playing elliott as he was awsome against city.

    I just hope Pardew has seen the undeniable benefit of starting 2 natural wingers now, and giving them leave to run at the defense. Too often we’ve seen him play Goofy as a second LB which just invites pressure, so let’s hope we’ve turned a corner now.
