Steven Taylor has always been a good professional, and he’s showing that right now with some very good performance in central defense alongside Fab Coloccini, as Newcastle are starting to turn their season around.
Steven Taylor and Jack Colback after win at Spurs
Steven didn’t get much of a look in last season when Mike Williamson partnered Coloccini and ended up as our Player of the Season, after some strong performances for the side.
Steven made only 9 appearances all last season, but he has taken his opportunity with Mike Williamson out injured, and so far has six appearances this term for the first team.
This is what Steven said yesterday about his plight:
“You’ve got to keep working hard in training, and that’s what I’ve done,” “I did my extra stuff, kept my head down, didn’t moan and I’m just glad to be playing.”
“There’s nothing better than running out at St James’.” “This is what it’s all about, being a professional footballer. You can’t tell me anything’s better than this.”
Newcastle are short in central defense this season, after allowing Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa to leave for a season long loan to Roma, so we are hoping the club will bring in another center-back in January.
Lee Charnley had said the club had one lined up to replace Mapou, but the loan deal was completed so late, that replacement deal couldn’t be completed.
It’s good to see Steven getting back to somewhere near his best form.

Comment #1Saylor is always one step away from being an idiot though – look at his antics that got him booked in the last game. Even his team mates say he’s “Not the sharpest tool in the box”!!
A great servant for NUFC but has never achieved the potential he first showed – I guess he’s ideal for MA – isnt expensive, doesnt moan, can do a reasonable job – which is all MA expects!!

Comment #4Tiote is never for for is anyway, only seems to want to play for Ivory Coast. Good on his day though.
Is take cabs back on loan in Jan. Good player and when he was on strike nobody at the club seemed to moan, so maybe held back to get the deal done without him getting injured, lots of clubs do that.

Comment #5Graeme @1 – I still don’t understand why he was booked – since when are you not allowed to obstruct the keepers view?

on saylor I thought it was odd booking blocking the keeper the the ref warned him about it and he carried on at the next corner we had and got the card given how rash he can be picking up stupid yellows when not needed is a bit daft

Comment #7Martoon, I don’t know under what rule the Ref booked him, but I would imagine something like “Unsporting Conduct” or “Impeding a player” would both cover it.
I’m fairly certain that “Being an idiot” isn’t a bookable offence or there would be hundreds booked every week lol.

since always tbh when the keeper has the ball in hands he should be withdrawing ! it happened to us a few times also and i was crying when it did so i applaud his booking tbh it was stupid.

If your about, Abeid got his call to the full squad.
Can’t really see Tiote leaving due to ACON, we probably wanted rid in summer and I’d expect he’ll be here until next summer.
Personally I wouldn’t touch Cabaye, he left for bigger and better things. It’s took nearly 12 months for team to settle and players to make a claim for a spot, why reward someone who left us in lurch or punish players who stayed and fought for a place. No thanks, move on go foward.
Big blow for Obertan hopefully it’s not as long as expected and he can come back showing same focus and application.

Comment #10croftus5678 – Yes but the keeper didn’t have the ball in his hands – he was lining the wall up for a free kick – but I guess Graeme is right probably unsporting conduct.

Comment #11Where are you on the Lineker/Rodgers spat? I’m with Lineker. Rodgers seems to be treating a European Champions League game at the Bernabeu like we treat a Europa Cup game. Not the most important game in the calendar.

i agree on cabaye he’s left we built a team that doesnt include him and i quite like the fact we have more than enough top quality cm’s atm and even youth is getting a chance so your right imo once a player leaves wether its cabaye/carroll/ba/shearer/bernard or whom ever we move on as a team.

It’s not just that, ATM we have two places in our squad free (possibly) we need a CB and Striker another midfielder would be last thing I was looking for.

tbf the prem is the most important but every game should be winnable fair enough if heonly has say sturridge then he has a case for not risking him as he needs him for a prem game but all prem teams inc us should have enough class players to entertain and try there hardest to win games for the fans who keep there teams alive.
if he doesnt want to win the europa game then theres an issue imo.

Comment #16Tiote will leave this season as he has said he wants to leave and the club have found, by accident / design, his replacement in Abeid.
Without Tiote we still have Colback, Abeid, Sissoko, Raylor and De Jong.
Don’t need Cabaye. Very much doubt he would come, anyway, as it would signal that he made a mistake in engineering a move to a bigger club which hasn’t panned out.

Yeah just seen it mate. He’ll definitely be going afcon now. Another potential blow to our fragile side.
On the Cabaye issue. I understand why he left ie wants to win things and why stay at a club with no ambition so I get it but I say let him keep warming their bench. He made his bed now he’s got to lie in it!

Comment #19Can we send Ferreya back in Jan?
We often talk about calling players back can we not send one back, so far I can’t see any reason we would want to continue paying his wages.
We’ve played 12 I think and I can’t even remember him being on bench, if he’s not fit get rid.

Seems like the aim is to qualify for the champions league but it’s not so important to do anything when you do qualify. Which makes you wonder why some players are too bothered about it. Money is killing it. Football will eat itself.

Comment #23Taylor has impressed me recently. He’s put in some solid performances but his antics still antagonise me! Would be good if he keeps it up until January when we can get either Robin Knoche, Fabian Schar, Stefano Denswil, Virgin Van Djik or Eder Alvarez Balanta (one can dream!!!)

Comment #24On the subjects discussed today:
CABAYE……no thanks. He used us as a stepping stone and so far has failed.
TIOTE…..I dont think he will go till the summer unless we get a stupid offer in January in excess of 15 million quid.
JONAS RETURN….already stated his lack of fitness and contracts situation is of no benefit to the side but he could be useful helping the academy.
GRENIER…..No chance. Like Lacazette, he doesnt want to come here.

Why would he sign either of them?
He has the current 3 CBs plus Mbiwa out on loan. He has Streete, Good and Satka supposedly coming through the ranks and he paid 5 million for Lascelles who he will get back next year.

On Cabella. He certainly wanted to sign as far back as January but he wanted to stay at Montpeller to help them in a relegation battle. This was reported on quotes given by his father/agent.
Grenier’s agent several times quoted that he wasnt interested in joining us but wanted to go to a club in Italy. That didnt happen because he got injured prior to the world cup and missed the start of the season.
Oh, and by the way. I am retired so I gave every day off… lol

Aarons on the right, Sammy on the left. Cabella could play both flanks. Even Ryan Taylor possibly on the right if pushed.
