I Didn’t Think We Could Play At This Level – It’s A Nice Surprise

Newcastle have not only produced the results in the last four games, but we have seen some good displays from the team too, which has been surprising after the way we started the season.

Sammy Ameobi – on of the players playing well right now

The really good news is that some of our fringe players and younger players have been playing really well – including Steven Taylor, Paul Dummett, Mehdi Abeid, Gabby Obertan (now injured and out for a while), Sammy Ameobi, Rolando Aarons and Ayoze Perez.

That’s been the thing that could even mean we have a decent squad this season, but the intensity the lads have shown over the last few weeks, will need to be maintained at West Brom this afternoon, if we are to have any chance of getting a decent result at the Hawthorns.

Alan Pardew has been upbeat about the recent performances:

“We have deserved the victories that we have had and we have given ourselves and the fans confidence that we can grow.”

“We have a lot of young players in the group and they are really benefiting from this spell. There hasn’t really been a secret ingredient for this run but it’s about doing the right things enough of the time.”

“We were doing that at the beginning of the season but not getting the results, so I was confident that if we got a win then we could get the points we desperately needed.”

“I didn’t think we could play to the level that we have been but that has been a really nice surprise.” “We have trained well this week and I think the team would have preferred a midweek game really when you’re on a roll.”

“But we are preparing as best as we can for West Brom on Sunday,” “West Brom are probably the hardest working team in the Premier League so we are going to have to match that intensity.”

We would have had a mid-week game if we were in Europe, but the last we were in the Europa League two years ago, we just couldn’t handle the extra games, simply because our squad wasn’t big enough – and we struggled against relegation.

And our squad still isn’t big enough, which is one reason we are hoping we can get some new players in during the January transfer window.

Former Newcastle coach Alan Irvine has the West Brom side very well organized and fighting for the shirt, so we have to show the same guts and passion we showed in our last two games against Manchester City and Liverpool, if we are to take anything out of this game.

A win could take us up to as high as 8th place in the league, and we’d be in the top 10 over the two week International break.

After all that’s happened this season – that would be something.

What do you think?

re writing history a bit , take the cup game away and the performances have been just as poor as always ,
results could have gone either way for all 4 games
