Mehdi Abeid has been one of out best players since he came into the side at Manchester City, and he’s been a star player for us in the last three games, when we haven’t conceded a goal.
Mehdi Abeid – in full stride for Newcastle
It’s really an amazing turnaround for the lad who has finally been called up for the full Algerian squad – after he has played four times for the U23 side, and 29 times in total for the French U16, U17 and U18 youth sides.
Mehdi was born in France of Algerian parents.
The 22 year-old is just one of the younger players who have helped turn the season around for Newcastle, and they have fought for the ball and closed down the opposition so well, in registering wins at Manchester City, at home to Liverpool and at West Brom on Sunday.
Abeid was a favorite of ours when he first arrived from Lens as a free agent over three years ago – and it’s just great to see how well he is coming through this season, after a very successful season out on loan in Greece.
In the league table, Newcastle are in 8th place and just three points out of 4th place so – yes – it’s been an amazing run of five wins in all competitions for the lads.
Mehdi Abeid has said this in the Shields Gazette:
“I knew I had to play football, and that’s what I went and did – to play football and enjoy my time,” “I got a lot of experience – I learned a lot – and I came back with a strong mentality and a strong character.”
“I have always been working and I’m happy for it.” “A lot has changed. I’ve been out on loan a lot, and I have come back here to have some time to play and show the manager and the club I can play for them. I’m really happy.”
“The manager said I have to keep doing what I’m doing.” “I have to concentrate, to work hard every day, and I will get a chance. I had my chance last week, I try to do my best and it’s working, so I’m very pleased with that.”
“We’re doing our best, and hopefully we can play together.” “We’ll see what will be in the next game.” “We’ve always been working to have some success, and this time it’s working,”
“We have to keep showing we’re a good team and we can do our best every game. Sunday was a great win for the team.”
“Ayoze Perez scored a fantastic goal and everything was good. We have to keep doing what we’re doing well and hopefully win more games in the league.”
“We’re really pleased with what he’s doing – he’s helping us a lot.” “We always knew he is a very, very good player, we are really happy for him and I hope he will score a lot more for us.
“He could be a big player for us. He needs to score, he is very technical, a very good player, and we know he can do big things for us.”
The next game is against QPR at home, and while that looks an easy game on paper, QPR are a much improved side, and in fact they are playing well and should have beaten Manchester City on Saturday.
And in their previous home game against Liverpool, it was a wild finish with four goals in the last four minutes or so, but they could also have won that game – so we don’t think the game against QPR will be an easy one.
If Newcastle go into the game expecting it to be tough – then we will have a chance of winning the game – that’s the attitude that’s needed.
