We first heard about Jonas Gutierrez’ fight with cancer in the week following our 4-0 demolition at Southampton, and it was just before the home game with Hull City on Saturday, 20th September.
The messages on Newcastle’s warm-up kit on September 20th before Hull game
And in that game the Newcastle players wore T-shirts in support of Jonas during the warm up for the game.
We played quite well that day and were in control, but two goals out of the blue by Hull City still had us losing 2-0 with just 20 minutes to play in the game.
Alan Pardew then brought on Senegal striker Papiss Cisse after 69 minutes – for his first appearance of the season, after breaking his knee-cap in April.
And Papiss looked inspired in that game and scored two late goals to get Newcastle an unlikely draw, and after each goal he revealed a T-shirt under his strip that said “Always Looking Forward Jonas.”

We got a draw in that game and that was only 3 points from our first five games and we were 3rd bottom of the league.
But then we got an unlikely win after extra time at Crystal Palace, and reached the last sixteen of the Capital One Cup – after extra time – a game that Pardew has since said was the turning point in the season.
But then we lost a close game at Stoke City 1-0 when it looked like it was curtains for Alan Pardew- as we slumped to 2nd bottom with three points from 6 games.
It wasn’t, and the next weekend we got a good 2-2 draw at Swansea – again coming frpm behind twice in that game.
And we finally won a game against Leicester City 1-0 at home the following Saturday, and we’ve won the four games after that – including an amazing 2-0 win at Manchester City to reach the quarter finals of the Capital One Cup.
So since we all found about Jonas’ brave fight with cancer, Newcastle have played 9 games, we have 6 wins, two draws and the single defeat at Stoke.

That’s not a bad record, and maybe it’s not a coincidence that all that has happened after we all found about Jonas’ courageous fight with cancer.
Jonas may not be playing for Newcastle United right now, but his bravery may have had a dramatic impact on the playing and coaching staff at Newcastle – and the results seem to reflect that.
It’s a possibility – and quite a story.

sure the points are welcome, and im very happy for players like abeid , perez and dummett, as if your prepared to do the searching you will not find one negative from me about any of them, I championed getting abeid in the team 2 years ago, as for the second pre season in a row he was our best player,
perez , the start of the season, I wanted him in the team with Rivi, but no its one or the other.
dummett has just got so much stick from so many on here , most of which was not warranted, as both Williamson and Janmaat were much worse, ( janmaat new to the league needed time to adjust ).
tequila, transfer , dok
regardless of the results, for the most part the football has been pretty poor, in fact it reminds me of the season we finished fifth, letting the players of the leash for 20-30 mins in the second half, first half is always a poor half, I watched the games and read the reports checked the stats,
C Palace, we were at home, yet palace made subs trying to go for the win before we did, and they looked the better organised team
Leicester c http://www1.skysports.com/football/live/match/313462
read the commets at the bottom
spuds game, they created so many chances in the first half they should have been out of sight,
Man C game, best NUFC game I have seen in a few years, not only the result, but the way the FULL team played. the sad fact about this game that has not really picked up on is the fact P45 admitted on TV he new perez would get no service , which is the same for any of our strikers most weeks
Liverpool, between us and them in the first half, no one wanted to commit any bodies forward, both teams looked poor, both teams 3 shots on target, and we get 2 goals from ours
west brom, again, a very poor first half with both teams not really pushing forward
now im hearing P45 deserves Credit for this turn around, and I carnt help thinking this was not planned it has just been one big fluke, like I say, for me the football is pretty much the same, the formation, and lack of support, yeh oberan added a bit of speed, but still we as a team had very little end product.
then you come to the fact he only made changes mainly due to injury and not good judgment,
will Williamson get back in at the expense of dummett
will Cisse get back in at the expense of Perez
will Tiote get back in at the expense of Abeid
the answer is probably yes,
do I see Goofy dropped for very long, no sorry I don’t.
He would deserve credit if he had the Balls to make these changes before they were forced on him.
last season 11 games in we were 9th 17 points ,by xmas it fell to bits for almost 10 month
the season before that we were 10th with 14 points and finished 16th , with another bad run from xmas
right now at the same stage we are 8th, and have scored pretty much the same amount of goals as at this stage the 2 previous seasons, playing the same type off football,
this is not about me wanting personal glory to say I told you so, this is about wanting to be proud of my team again, not just scraping by , win by going out on the pitch and being better than the other team, like we were VS Man C

Comment #82Well good morning Toons and Toonettes.
I can see the debate about Pards is still going strong, the thing for me is you are all correct in your certain way. I for one saw pards at his best when we go into Europe under his management, but then I saw pards at his worse and yes if this was any other club he would have been fired. We can talk about monies spent and the fact we don’t spend as much as say Man City or the Man U’s of the world, but that’s the way it is and that’s down to the chairman and not pards. I am not saying pards is the best man for the job, at the beginning of the season I said give him a chance he has no excuses now as we signed some good players. I also after the first seven games gave in and said please let him go, but what to do now? He has the team playing like they believe they can win, is it because of Jonas we will never know. We honestly need to let the season roll out he may have had a Phoenix from the flames moment, he may not. But something has changed at the club and the players are doing everything they can to win. I honestly feel sometimes we get lost in the moment, so for me until the end of the season I will sit back and enjoy the ride, he’s not getting fired anytime soon we know that, so lets see where the Toon takes us this year. Here’s the thing for me, I wake up at 5am on match day and watch the games here in the states, then my 9 year old daughter wakes around the second half and runs out with her Newcastle kit, she says are we winning Dad, seeing her smiling when I tell her yes and her cheering is a wonderful feeling for a lifer to the Toon, I just hope it continues I know we cannot win them all but if I can make that kid smile on match day more and more than I am content.
