Moussa Sissoko picked up his 25th cap for France last night in the 1-1 draw at home to Albania and the powerful Newcastle midfielder played for 80 minutes with no news that he picked up any injury – so we assume he is OK.
Moussa Sissoko in French colors
Moussa has been showing the best form of his career this season, and especially in the last five games where he now has a central roles for Newcastle in midfield, and that could well be his best position at Newcastle.
Ever since he signed on from Toulouse in January of last year for a meager £2M, when he had only 6 full caps for France, he has been an automatic starter at Newcastle, and he is certainly an improved player this season.
And former Newcastle striker Malcolm Macdonald in his column in the Chronicle yesterday, thinks central midfield is the Frenchman’s best position:
“What I have found really satisfying is the form of Moussa Sissoko. I’ve always thought he has the best ball skills at Newcastle and I include the likes of Remy Cabella.”
“The trouble was, early in the season, the malaise of the team seemed to get through to him and he didn’t exploit his ability to the full.”
“Now playing center midfield rather than wide, he looks as strong as an ox and terrifies defenders. He is also getting into the final third a lot more.”
“For a while, Sissoko looked like he thought crocodiles lived in the penalty area. Not now.”
Moussa is a real powerhouse on the field, and he has so far played 70 games for Newcastle with 7 goals and this season he has made 14 appearances with one goal.
The 25 year-old French International could well be Newcastle’s best player so far this season.
