Jonas Gutierrez was named the “Outstanding Sports Personality” by the Buenos Aries legislature on Thursday night, and there were a number of sports personalities attending the ceremony – including the Newcastle United captain Fab Coloccini, who traveled to Buenos Aries immediately after the 2-0 win at West Brom last Sunday.

Jonas is a hero to many people after his brave and courageous fight to overcome cancer, and he has gained plaudits from around the football world for the way he has handled his illness.
Only a couple of weeks ago he was named cancer free by his doctors, and he said at the time he was to return to Newcastle, and that will be early next month.
This is what the former Argentine International has said about his return:
“I have spent so many years with Newcastle and will be flying back at the beginning of December.” “It is something I am really looking forward to.”
“I will see how I feel once I arrive but the first thing I really want to do is spend time with the squad.” “I want to say thank you to all the supporters in England.
“I would really like to say that all the messages that you sent, gave me the power to beat this cancer, so thank you.”
The Newcastle fans in particular inundated Jonas with get well messages once they heard in September he was fighting testicular cancer, and was also receiving chemotherapy treatment, after the cancer had spread.
Jonas shown at the award ceremony with short hair
We must say Jonas looks a smart guy these days with that short haircut of his – so we wonder if he will grow his hair long again.
And if he doesn’t then maybe that would cause Andy Carroll to cut his locks too – since he was inspired to grow his hair long by Gutierrez’ long hair a few years ago when the Argentine arrived on Tyneside.
It will be great to see Jonas back at Newcastle United in just over two weeks time.

Hopefully he may get the chance to play one more game….Although I am sure it says somewhere if he activates his certain amount of games he is entitled to a new contract.
Bloke deserves it

Comment #3Funny how its all hugs and kisses now when it was AP saying get out of our club last year. What kind of med staff does NUFC have that they miss such a serious injury and cancer?
Well, if he’s back and fit, he can close out a match for the squad, with his possession, ability to get knocked down and guile.
