26 year-old CSKA Moscow star striker Seydou Doumbia admits that he has plenty of offers to leave Russia in January, and he’s a player Newcastle have been interested in for over three years now – and in our archives the first time we were linked with this player was in February, 2011.
Seydou Doumbia – attracting some big clubs
And in early November of 2010, the newly arrived Cheick Tiote recommended Newcastle go after his Ivory Coast team-mate Seydou Doumbia, so maybe we should have taken Cheick’s advice.
Here’s the article we put out at that time – and Gervinho was the other recommendation from Tiote.
The 21 times capped Ivory Coast striker could be in big demand in January, and he did nothing but raise his profile with two great opportunist goals for his club in their surprise 2-1 Champions League group win at Manchester City in early November.
Newcastle United and Everton had been the two clubs after the player, and it’s really not much of a surprise if Chelsea are now after him – but if that’s true there will be little chance that Newcastle can now attract him to Tyneside.
This is what Doumbia has said about his situation:
“I am talking with CSKA about renewing my contract, but there is interest in me.¨ “There’s a lot from England, Spain, Germany and Italy. However I am under contract at CSKA so I have to talk with them too.”
Seydou has 10 goals in 15 games this season for his Moscow club, and in four years in Russia, he has scored 83 goals in 125 appearances.
That’s a striker we need at Newcastle United.
