Mood Buoyant, Expectations High – Newcastle Face Big Test

64% of Newcastle fans think we will win the game against QPR at home on Saturday, and only 12% think we will lose the game – so it seems manager Alan Pardew is right to think that our team faces a different kind of test on Saturday – with expectations now a lot higher than they were only a few weeks ago.

Alan Pardew – we face different test on Saturday

Unfortunately we will lose Fabricio Coloccini and Mehdi Abeid form the side that won last time out at West Brom and Rolando Aarons and Cheick Tiote are still out injured.

Even through QPR are currently second bottom they have been playing well of late and have been really unlucky not to pick up more points and their two strikers up front Charlie Austin and Bobby Zamora will be a big test for a makeshift Newcastle defense at St. James’ Park.

This is some of what manager Alan Pardew said at his press conference at Benton today:

“We’ve suffered some injuries,” “We’ve managed to repair the squad a bit, but are still missing one or two players.”

“There’ll be a bit more expectation on us this weekend than in recent weeks and therefore a different type of hurdle to overcome.

“We’ve done really well and the mood in the camp is buoyant.” “Our young players deserve a lot of credit, as do our senior guys.”

“Bobby Zamora and Charlie Austin have been a good combination for QPR.” “They have improved and will be tough, but we hope we can beat them.”

After such a great run of five wins ion a row it will be a disappointment if Newcastle’s streak is ended at home by a team second bottom of the league – even if QPR are playing well.

But this is the Premier League and there are very few games where its easy to know what the result will be for any game, never mind when Newcastle are playing.

But we are still hopeful we can win the game but to do that both Mike Williamson and Paul Dummett will need to have strong games at the back.

And whoever comes in for Mehdi Abeid – it could be Vurnon Anita or Ryan Taylor – need to also have a good game – if we are to win this game and keep our great winning streak going.

What do you think?

Team that most are posting looks about best bet although I am hoping as Saylor is rated a big doubt there might be a late fitness test on Sat am.

We will need to boss midfield and whilst Anita is better passer than Raylor for that reason I would go with the latter. Set pieces will be a bonus. Any prospect for Vuckic or Bigi even on bench?

Main worry is stats! QPR haven’t won away from home this season and we all know what that often means when NUFC shows it’s generous side 🙁

Got my pessimistic head on for Saturday.
Going to be tough having lost Colo and Tiote who is going to be captain/leader. Dummett, Williamson partnership I think have only played about ten mins together and with Zamora and austin hitting form – could be in for a rough afternoon.
My team would be the team that started West Brom – Williamson in for Colo and I would play Taylor ( make him captain) in central midfield along side Colback. He brings a more attacking option than Anita, doies not get knocked off the ball easily, can tackle and can take a free kick which at the minute we sadly lack anyone else -And can score the odd gaol or two.
