Newcastle were linked with Ipswich Town’s Tyrone Mings a couple of months ago, and there are reports again that Newcastle are keeping tabs on the 21 year-old – who stands 6’3″ tall – it must be those hamburgers.
Tyrone Mings – 21 year-old Ipswich Town left back
Tyrone has got his chance this season after another Newcastle target – 24 year-old Aaron Cresswell – left Ipswich for West Ham in the summer for an undisclosed fee, and has been playing very well for the Hammers so far this season.
But at the moment Newcastle are fairly well off at left back, with local lad Paul Dummett having come through very well this season, and young Frenchman Massadio Haidara continues to show up well when he gets a chance in the first team.
And Davide Santon will soon be fit again and ready to fight to regain his left back spot – and then we also have the experienced Ryan Taylor who can play in either full back position.
So Newcastle are well off at left back at the moment.
Tyrone is a good young player, and he is attracting the interest of some top clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United and Everton – so we’d be surprised if Newcastle’s interest is strong in this player at this point.
Crystal Palace were said to have offered £3M for Mings on the last day of the summer transfer window, so there are a number of clubs who have been alerted to Mings’ very good form – that has helped Mick McCarthy’s team get up to 4th place in the Championship, after finishing in a decent 9th place last season.
Mings signed a new three year deal at Ipswich in late summer, which keeps him at the club until 2017, and he’s so far played 31 times for the Ipswich first team.
