Now that we have a better understanding of the injury situation at Newcastle, we can go about thinking about what the best starting team is tomorrow at home against second bottom QPR.
Ryan Taylor – could get start tomorrow
We’ll assume Steven Taylor is out injured along with captain Coloccini – so our latest starting center-back pair this season are both unavailable.
But from Alan Pardew’s comments yesterday, it seems almost certain that Mike Williamson and Paul Dummett will start there.
The question then is who will come in for Paul at left back, and it’s between Massadio Haidara and Ryan Taylor, but since the young Frenchman has looked good there when he’s played this season, we think he will get the nod.
And Mehdi Abeid and Cheick Tiote are both out injured, so there’s a place in midfield up for grabs.
Normally we would think that Vurnon Anita would be given the chance there, but when he’s played this season he hasn’t looked good, and in his last two games was dragged off at half-time.
Now we have Ryan Taylor available and he can play in that position – as he did at Manchester City – so we have an inkling Ryan could get the start there tomorrow.
It will depend to some extent as to how Vurnon and Ryan have looked in training this week.
We’re not sure there will be much change up front – and think that Ayoze Perez will start in the center – since Papiss Cisse had a game on Wednesday night for Senegal and has just traveled back to Newcastle – and because of that we’d be surprised if he gets a start tomorrow.
So given all that – this is the team we think Alan Pardew could field tomorrow afternoon in a 4-3-3 formation:
Krul
Janmaat Williamson Dummett Haidara
Taylor (R) Sissoko (c) Colback
Cabella Perez Ameobi
Subs: Elliot Streete Anita Armstrong Gouffran Riviere Cisse
Notice that we have young Remie Street on the bench for cover for Williamson and Dummett, and we’re assuming Manu Riviere is fit again.
We’ve also made Moussa Sissoko captain, but big Mike could also get the armband.
What team would you start tomorrow?

there’s a semblance of depth? We’ll see. Is it,
Jan, Wil, Dum, Haidara then?
Is Davide available?

but I’d stick anyone of those latter subs in…
Of course, it does depend on what they’ve shown in training.

Comment #3It probably isn’t far off the best team we could put out. Personally would drop Sissoko deeper and move Cabella into the number 10, then push Perez wider and bring Arma in if Cisse isn’t ready to start.
That would drop Raylor to the bench, who could be a useful option to bring on other to consolidate, or for his set pieces if we are struggling.

Comment #4Agree with the team, Ed. But probably Cissé will get the nod ahead of Ayoze Perez.

Comment #6Agree with the team in the article and am looking for Sammy to be more productive from the start. He has a tendency to do well coming on as a substitute, or in the second half when starting. He needs to establish himself in the game earlier if he is to get a new contract and more game time should allow him to develop.

Comment #7I think Ed has the team spot on.
Given that we’ve had success in the last 5 games playing the 4-3-3 formation and Sissokko has blossomed in the playmarker/attacking role in the middle three then changing this would be madness.
I can’t understand the logic of people who think we should move him deeper, change the front three to accomodate Cabella in a number 10 role. Why?
That would suggest that we’d just been beaten in the last 5 games and need to work out a new strategy.
I also think Ryan Taylor deserves his chance to play in the middle and would play him ahead of Anita every day of the week. He’s looked sharp and motivated since getting back to fitness and his two goals for the U21’s last week prove that he’s still got it, so to speak.
Playing Anita in the middle doesnt work and as much as I like the little Dutchman he hasn’t been capable of proving himself at Premier League level.
I think Raylor has a lot more to offer.
And as for Cisse, again it makes no sense to drop our most in-form player. Cisse is returning from a knee injury and played for Senegal earlier in the week.
Perez has been on fire and scored in his last 3 games, but drop him for Cisse?
That makes absolutely no sense.

Comment #8As we are counter-attacking at home, this could be a tight one. a Ryan Taylor special could be the clincher. H e has to play. Has Cabella done enough to keep Gouffran out is an interesting question.

Comment #9Ryan Taylor needs to play because without Abeid we don’t have a passer in the midfield. Sissoko is more of a powerhouse and Colback is a hard worked. So balance would be better with Taylor in the team. Anita is a passer but doesn’t have the same range of passing as Taylor. Anita passes are all 0-15 yards and we need longer passing with our counter attacking set up

Would go along with that team no bother.
But please don’t put Anita in midfield. He should be sold in the summer season to make way for somebody bigger and more powerful.
I have a little worry about the match tomorrow though as I think Colo is going to be a big miss.

Comment #12As usual with these things, we all want Ryan Taylor in but he will go with Anita. Although we all yelled after his Man City team selection and that did the business

Comment #13My money is on:
Krul
Janmaat-Willo-Dumm-Haidara
Colback-Sissoko-R. Taylor
Gouffran-Perez-Ameobi
I think it’s a hard working squad especially with Gouffy getting back into the starting 11
