There is news in the Mirror today is that Newcastle have been watching 20-year-old PSV midfielder Memphis Depay, who was impressive in the World Cup in Brazil and scored two goals for his country in that tournament.
Memphis Depay – PSV and Holland winger
The PSV youngster already has 13 caps for Holland, and it’ not surprising there are a number of Premier league clubs already interested in signing the player.
The Mirror is reporting that two of the clubs most interested in Depay are Newcastle United and Everton, and both had scouts at the game when Holland lost 3-2 to Mexico in Amsterdam, during the last International break.
The news is that Newcastle will try to sign him in January, but that will be very difficult, because this lad is an excellent player and we think if he’s available then bigger clubs than Newcastle and Everton will be after him.
But there again, Newcastle are now in 5th place in the Premier League after six wins on the trot, and we could be even higher by the time January rolls around. 😀
The other difficulty with signing Depay in January is that most sensible clubs don’t sell their best players half-way through the season, so we be surprised if PSV would allow their youngster to leave in January.
Depay has played for all the Dutch Youth sides from U15 through U21 – and made his debut for PSV back in April of 2012.
In the last three seasons he has played 97 games for PSV Eindhoven with 36 goals – not a bad record at all.
