These Players Have Been Key – Spirit In Group Is Fantastic

Alan Pardew has picked out players like Paul Dummett, Massadio Haidara, Moussa Sissoko and Ayoze Perez as players who have  contributed to what has been simply an amazing turnaround in fortunes for Newcastle United this season, after had just 4 points from our first seven league games but have now taken a maximum 15 points from the last five. 😀

Alan Pardew congratulates Ayoze Perez on Saturday

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has reflected on what he thinks has been the difference in the side:

“There’s definitely more depth to the squad.” “I felt we were a striker light but Perez has come to the fore for us.” “That’s been a real bonus.”

“But the wide players have been – and Sissoko through the middle – has been the key to our success offensively.” “We’ve had some bonuses defensively, Haidara and Dummett have been brilliant.”

“The back four have had four or five clean sheets and it gives you the chance to win.” “As a manager you on the training ground you see and think: ‘This could be something’.”

“Then you have a run of disappointments even though we played quite well.” “Then you start questioning your own eyes and management experience.”

“But we felt there was something here.” “Suddenly we have hit the ground, got a win and just built on that.” “The spirit in the group is just fantastic.”

There are not many in football who can put their finger on exactly how Newcastle United have turned this thing around, and it seems to be  a combination of things.

But one major aspect of this side is our players’  fantastic team spirit and passion – and they just never give up, and keep going until the end of every game.

It’s really great stuff to watch, and that makes three successive 1-0 wins at home where we have scored the winner later than the 70th minute as the crowd have cheered the players on.

Next up is West Ham who are also playing well so far this season – and that will be a tough game for our lads followed by a trip the following midweek to Burnley, who had a great 2-1 win at Stoke on Saturday.

Newcastle should have some top players back for Saturday, and they hopefully will include Cheick Tiote and Fabricio Coloccini, and we are hoping Ryan Taylor is OK to play.

Given contribution on the field, I’d give Sammy a contract, even ahead of Aarons. Aarons has shown plenty of promise, he needs to work just as hard as Sammy to secure a contract.

Like I said elsewhere, I was unfairly biased against Sammy, not any more. Imagine a little FB (many aren’t big) glancing to his left to see what he’s up against, before the players emerge. Seeing Sam must scare the sxxt out of him 🙂

Thank heaven we didn’t sign Tomkins after that display of cheating yesterday. Hammers got what they deserved against Toffees and hopefully more of the same at the weekend.

Having said that, Ross Berkley also cheated disgracefully but I couldn’t fix it for both sides to get nil points. Howay the Lads!
