According to The Mirror, Newcastle United are said to be ready make a £9M bid for Borussia Monchengladbach striker Max Kruse, the 26 year-old German International striker.
Max Kruse – 26 year-old German striker
Kruse was signed on a four year deal for Monchengladbach from SC Freiburg in 2013, and since then he has scored 17 goals in 43 matches for his German club.
Max is only 26 years old so he fits the profile of players owner Mike Ashley likes to sign for the Magpies, and while at Freiburg he scored 12 goals in 39 appearances, so the 5’11¨ player is a decent enough goalscorer but not prolific.
Southampton are also said to be interested in signing the player, according to the Mirror report – and this lad would look like a good buy for Newcastle, if we can get him through the door.
Newcastle failed to bring in a striker during the summer, and although 21 year-old Ayoze Perez has done very well in his very first season in England, Newcastle still need another striker brought in as soon as possible, and preferably in January.
Kruse was at FC St. Pauli for three seasons before moving to SC Freiburg, and he scored 22 goals in exactly 100 appearances for the club.
Kruse got his first call up to the German senior squad for a friendly against Ecuador in May of last year, and since then he has 10 full caps and one goal for Germany, and he also played for the Germany U19, U20 and U21 sides.
He played 24 times for those German Youth sides with 8 goals.
Kruse failed to make the German World Cup squad last summer, but he was in the German team that beat Gibraltar 4-0 in the last International break and played the whole game, and he was also a substitute in the 1-1 draw with Ireland.
This season in the Bundesliga he has scored 5 goals in 8 appearances for Borussia Monchengladbach.
He looks like a good striker.
And finally one interesting fact about the lad away from football – Kruse is an avid poker player and he finished third at the 2014 World Series of Poker in June in Las Vegas, and won $36,494 in prize money.
Wonder where he goes for his summer vacation? 😀

I was a little bit disappointed with Mag52 and Dulcerina’s comments about snivelling to Ed, it’s not about that at all, I’m not hiding the fact that I wrote to Ed and I’m not bothered about somebody calling me names on a blog, with my views on Mike Ashley of course I’m going to get a bit of stick, what compelled me to write to Ed though was somebody who is all day everyday hurling insults at anybody who he doesn’t agree with, there is a big difference between me taking the pi$$ out of Pardews glasses every now and then to making snide comments every couple of minutes against posters you don’t like.

Comment #2Get him through the door. Then we have options up top. Still a tad worried about the back line and the depth.

Comment #3jail – I thought about posting that there were no lenses in King Percys glasses and that he wore the glasses to look intelligent. Clearly nobody would be wearing glasses without lenses but I erred against it as some of the “more serious” posters would not see it was a joke.

Comment #4I think Pards looks a dapper chapper, in those big old Mr Ed Glasses, but I do agree with you about Mag92, Jail, and also wrote to Ed about it. With less of the rancor, he’s a sharp and entertaining contributor though, from what I’ve read, a bit of moderation from Ed, hopefully will have him flying right.

Pards is over 50 so its not unlikely that his eyesight is starting to go. I’m ten years younger and my glimmers are shocking.

Comment #7I live in Japan, and sport a pair of those oversized Pards type goggles myself, but over here that style is all the fashion, but without the lenses, just the frames, bizarrely.

Comment #8canny – you really need to get to the optician to get your eyes sorted. The old optician can identify all sorts of things such as diabetese. With a set of specs you should be able to see we normally play in black and white stripes.

Comment #9Mag just seemed to want to cause conflict with everyone, if you didn’t see most of his comments you’d think he only had a problem with one or two. He was that bad at times he’d have a go at people who agreed with him?
As many have said he maybe this poster who’s had x amount of other names, if that is the case he probably already has his new alias on the blog in place.

10:45 pm — You call up David Moyes and shout, “You couldn’t replace Sir Alex Ferguson and you can’t replace Alan Pardew! You could never pull off stylish fashion glasses like I can! Never!” then quickly hang up.

Are you hoping to catch me while the rest of the blog is sleeping for a few more late night chuckles about how I am an old trout who should be filleted. Or that I take part in bare-breasted mud-wrestling. Or that I might offer sexual favours to other posters?
I chose to have my fights with Mag92 and yourself on the open blog, where you had the right to reply. I am not one of the people who wrote to Ed.
Anyway, as that battle is won, I have no need or intention of hanging around for any more unedifying Benny Hill schtick.

Not true, the fashion the other year was to wear them with just clear glass. Still trending in Japan by reliable accounts.

Comment #31I haven’t seen so much of Kruse and Gladbach of late I know he’s good player. He replaced Cisse directly in Freiburg.
Although he scored less goals than Cisse. Freiburg as team went from 11-15 place to 5-7 or something with Kruse.
Reason: Kruse score both score goals and create goals for the team.
I remember recomending him when there still was a chance for getting this guy but I really can’t see us buy good players from Gladbach.
If we could then why not go Christopher Kramer. His contract is running out next summer.
Kruse is a good decoy.
