Manager Alan Pardew was upbeat during his news conference today for the West Ham game on Saturday afternoon and as well as four players returning to training – Coloccini, Tiote, Steven Taylor and Riviere – there was also good news on the status of Rolando Aarons and Ryan Taylor.
Rolando Aarons – back next week to training
This is what Alan said to the press today about Rolando and Ryan:
“Rolando Aarons is not quite ready, but I think he’ll be around for next week.” It’s a big week in the Premier League – three Premier League games in seven days – so it’s an important spell to have all your players around.¨
“It is a boost because we’ve had a terrible run of injuries and kept the winning run going so it’s testament to the squad – the players have been phenomenal in this spell, and even on the training ground this week it’s really difficult to calm them down.¨
“They’re really on fire, they’re enjoying their football and you can see it, so we should be in a good place for Saturday.” “We think he’ll be back training in three to four weeks so it’s really good news for Ryan, really good news for us, and good news for our fans because they were all upset, as we were, with his withdrawal last week”
“But it wasn’t as bad as we’d feared, so that’s some positive news.¨ “Ryan had worked so hard to come back from the cruciates and the broken leg he’s had during his career, and you don’t want him to suffer another major injury.¨
¨But there’s no bad news there – that’s all good news.”
That’s good news on both players – and particularly good news on 30 year-old Ryan Taylor, who was the best player on the field for the first 30 minutes last Saturday, before he had to leave the pitch.
Ryan Taylor injured last Saturday – back in a matter of weeks
There was also news yesterday that Siem de Jong has returned to training, so soon we could have two set piece specialists – Ryan Taylor and Siem de Jong – available, and that’s a threat we haven’t had since Yohan Cabaye left the club last January.
Things are continuing to look up at Newcastle at the moment. 😀

Comment #87Sakho and Valencia are said to be out.
So they will have either Carroll or Cole or both up front unless Sam decides to go with no strikers like he did last year a few times.

Comment #90Ashley can’t ignore the fans. Last time the abuse was hurled down from the terraces, to such a point that only the very unusual determination of the manager saved the owner, it was amazing Pardew didn’t walk. Thats twice it’s been hostile to breaking point and the club has continued to at least edge forward. I think the fans are by nature tolerant, but not stupid and that by now they know from history that they have to turn up the heat where necessary up to keep Ashley at least relatively honest.

Haven’t Wonga gone down in flames. Who else is there?
Ashley will no doubt spin it to a positive for himself.
SD only option, riding in again to save the club and all that.

With regard to your recent comment, the latest in a very long line directed at Geordie Two, can I direct you to the following link.
http://standuptohate.blogspot.co.uk/p/reporting-online-abuse-and-extra.html
Homophobic abuse is against British Law, which some way stands above what folks on the blog may think is acceptable.
I think you will find that there are steps people can take beyond complaining to Ed, who is not the final arbiter on these matters.
I think you will find that the anonimity you hide behind will protect you for precisely no seconds.

Comment #94That article in the Chronic doesn’t seem at all far fetched to me. In fact, in terms of maintainence and stability it appears entirely true. That is something you can’t take away from Ashley. Newcastle is a tight ship. It’s much more a question of where it’s headed.
I think its entirely possible Ashley doesn’t have a clear plan though regarding Rangers, but that they are in such dire need that they represent an opportunity that he can’t resist feeling out.
The money’s he’s put in so far is peanuts, at this stage little more than a donation, if it turns out to be a dead end or blind alley, he can walk away. He certainly doesn’t seem to be rushing in the way he did when he acquired us.

Re-Limk – Wow, something to think about there.
If that’s been the plan all along then that does show some amazing business forethought on MA’s part. I’d be seriously impressed if it still didn’t all feel really underhanded somehow.

Comment #96Canny, if he could pull that off he would almost certainly be elevated to “God-like” status in the football world. He would have queues of fans begging him to take over their clubs, like we were praying for a Shiek Mansour.
It would be an amazing turn around, but would you rule it out at this stage?? The logic is very plausible indeed, which is actually quite scary lol

Comment #97I’d rather have SD on the shirt than Wonga. In fact I’d be delighted to see SD paying for something. I think one of the reasons why we haven’t though, is the problem of how he could justify paying for one and not the other. Not paying for advertising on the guernsey surely wouldn’t wash.
But also, and perhaps more tellingly, because you run the risk of brand over kill if you do. That might also help to explain his interest in Rangers.

Was it the plan all along? Not convinced.
Will he take full advantage if it is an option and pretend it was the plan all along? Abso freekn lutely.
At the end of the day, so long as the club is doing well, what more can we ask for.

He could put the money he would have paid us as a sponsor off the loan. Win, win. Probably not really good business, which is why I’m a receptionist and not a multi Media Mogul.

Comment #101Canny, I’m quite happy to see him not paying down the loan. Most of us think he should be paying for the advertising he has around the ground now, despite having paid off the overdraft when he bought the club. I’m not sure if that isn’t double dipping already. Triple dipping would surely be beyond the pale.

Comment #102I’ll second that Tuff, in hindsight. Reading back through the blog over the last few days, and beyond, much of Mag 92s and Jeff’s posts have been ugly and blatantly antagonistic. BandBs stands have been admirable and I think unfortunately necessary. Don’t object to their views on the football though, why not restrict the comments to that.

Being the owner though isn’t he essentially paying himself or charging himself. Whichever way around.
I think the whole thing needs looking at by the monopolies commission or whatever its called. So many conflicts of interest with this set up.

Comment #104Jimmy, the so called “Loan” was purely down to MA’s failure to do “Due Dilligence”!! If had done it properly, he would have discovered that there was still a huge loan outstanding for the last expansion of SJP. One of the conditions of that loan was that it must be repaid if the club was sold.
MA agreed to pay Hall / Shepard and thought that was what it was going to cost him – then the Mortgage Holder knocked on his door and asked for the loan to be repaid. THAT is the sum that MA has declared to be a loan to the club, in fact its a debt he bought through failing to do the right thing!! Nobody to blame but himself, but the club gets saddled with his mistake.
