Alan Pardew has just announced the Newcastle team for today’s game at West Ham, and Rob Elliot makes his first start of the season in the league, and Cheick Tiote is back from injury and captains the side.
Here are the two teams for today’s game:
West Ham (4-2-3-1): Adrian; Carl Jenkinson, James Collins, James Tomkins, Aaron Cresswell; Mark Noble (c), Cheik Kouyate; Morgan Amalfitano, Stewart Downing, Matt Jarvis; Andy Carroll
Substitutes: Jussi Jaaskelainen, Joey O’Brien, Guy Demel, Kevin Nolan, Ricardo Vaz Te, Mauro Zarate, Carlton Cole
Newcastle (4-3-3): Rob Elliot; Daryl Janmaat, Mike Williamson, Paul Dummett, Massadio Haidara; Moussa Sissoko, Cheick Tiote, Jack Colback; Yoan Gouffran, Ayoze Perez, Sammy Ameobi
Substitutes: Jak Alnwick, Steven Taylor, Vurnon Anita, Remy Cabella, Adam Armstrong, Emmanuel Riviere, Papiss Cisse
Referee: Mike Dean (The Wirral)
There’s no Coloccini so he mustn’t be fit to start and Mike Williamson and Paul Dummett continue at center-back.
Tim Krul has not made the game today, with news this morning that he could be out for a month with yet another injury a Newcastle player has picked up on the training ground.
Yoan Gouffran is surprisingly preferred to Remy Cabella on the right wing (4-3-3 formation) and Remy who drops to the bench, after he had a decent game against QPR last time out.
Steven Taylor and Manu Riviere also return from injury and are on the bench, and so is 17 year-old local lad Adam Armstrong.
Andy Carroll starts the game today and Kevin Nolan is on the bench – but both West Ham’s new strikers Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho are missing.
Almost half of Newcastle fans expect us to win today and only one on eight think we will lose this game.
We are going for our 7th win on the trot today, but it’s another bit of a patched up side, with top players Krul and Coloccini out today.
Howay The Lads!!
Note – I have been called away on a family emergency – and it’s unlikely I will be back before the end of this game.
