Elliot Starts – Tiote Captains Side For West Ham

west-ham-united-crestnufc emblem

Alan Pardew has just announced the Newcastle team for today’s game at West Ham,  and Rob Elliot makes his first start of the season in the league, and Cheick Tiote is back from injury and captains the side.

Here are the two teams for today’s game:

West Ham (4-2-3-1): Adrian; Carl Jenkinson, James Collins, James Tomkins, Aaron Cresswell; Mark Noble (c), Cheik Kouyate; Morgan Amalfitano, Stewart Downing, Matt Jarvis; Andy Carroll
Substitutes: Jussi Jaaskelainen, Joey O’Brien, Guy Demel, Kevin Nolan, Ricardo Vaz Te, Mauro Zarate, Carlton Cole

Newcastle (4-3-3): Rob Elliot; Daryl Janmaat, Mike Williamson, Paul Dummett, Massadio Haidara; Moussa Sissoko, Cheick Tiote, Jack Colback; Yoan Gouffran, Ayoze Perez, Sammy Ameobi
Substitutes: Jak Alnwick, Steven Taylor, Vurnon Anita, Remy Cabella, Adam Armstrong, Emmanuel Riviere, Papiss Cisse

Referee: Mike Dean (The Wirral)

There’s no Coloccini so he mustn’t be fit to start and Mike Williamson and Paul Dummett continue at center-back.

Tim Krul has not made the game today,  with news this morning that he could be out for a month with yet another injury a Newcastle player has picked up on the training ground.

Yoan Gouffran is surprisingly preferred to Remy Cabella on the right wing (4-3-3 formation) and Remy who drops to the bench, after he had a decent game against QPR last time out.

Steven Taylor and Manu Riviere also return from injury and are on the bench, and so is 17 year-old local lad Adam Armstrong.

Andy Carroll starts the game today and Kevin Nolan is on the bench – but both West Ham’s new strikers Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho are missing.

Almost half of Newcastle fans expect us to win today and only one on eight think we will lose this game.

We are going for our 7th win on the trot today, but it’s another bit of a patched up side, with top players Krul and Coloccini out today.

Howay The Lads!!

Note – I have been called away on a family emergency – and it’s unlikely I will be back before the end of this game.

I am bitterly disappointed to see Tiote back in the team.

Gouffran may actually get a bit of his spark back, after seeing what the Newcastle team looks like from the bench…

Happy to see tiote back in the team. Best option we have there.

Surprised by gouffy especially on the right.

New to run at players more for me.

Think pardew has included him to keep us disciplined which I’m sure will have a few people on here moaning.

Can’t believe the number of fans who say we should sell Tiote if a decent bid comes in because we have other players who can do his job – like who?

Sissoko isn’t defensive midfielder, Colback is a great grafter but he has no physical presence and Abeid is still a young lad learning the game albeit that he looks to be learning fast.

Tiote is out on his own as a Toon player who can mix it with the best physical midfielders in the Prem and he would always be one of the first on my team sheet especially since he has cut out most of the stupid tackles and bookings. Tiote, Sissoko and Colback are a CM partnership that could get us into the top 6.

I’m looking for a big game from Sammi today. He is growing in confidence with every game and he has shown some exceptional footwork and real strength on the ball. I feel a blinder coming up soon from the lad.

Captaincy band taken from sissoko and given to tioti is a joke. Tioti heart is not in our team anymore. Shocking from Pardew to make him an automatic starter once again.

    Tiote’s heart isn’t our team?

I bet he rams that statement down the throats of anyone who thinks that. The guy knows only one way to play the game – full out, fully committed, warrior style.

Titoe fair enough for me, put him in front of Carroll and needs to keep a check on downing if he plays as no10.

Gouffran, well this is the test for Pardew for me, picking older players who havent performed(am i right no goals or assists in 2014?) over younger ones who have..but anyway lets see what happens and hopefully Gouffran can get some life back into him.

Sissoko is the key man today, dont envision a classic!!

Look at the negative comments flying in before a ball is kicked, this is what makes this blog a joke at times.

Pardew picks sides that win six games on the trot and the venom flies in when he doesn’t pick the side a fan thinks is best. Pathetic.

Really not convinced that Gouffran should be returning – always produces work rate but that’s about it – not much creativity/end product.
Looking forward again to Perez playing -his speed of brain and feet may again get us something – if he doesn’t get clogged. His confidence must be exceptionally high.

Why does everybody think Tiote wants out.

    1) best option for me today. Socks has been the driving force behind us lately creating danger for opposition. Having a midfield destroyer will free socks up to get forward more meaning he can be more dangerous for us but also is less likely to get a yellow and a suspension. Only negative I can see is that him and Colback may stifle creativity n

    2) if he does want out which at this moment is pure speculation based on nothing that even resembles factual information then at least he’ll be looking to play himself into a good move. We saw how we benefitted of Cabaye doing that lt season n

Always knew Tiote would walk back into the team Abeid being injured makes the decision very easy for Pardew Tiote needs to keep it simple now stop trying to be a play maker give the ball to Sammy , Sissoko or Perez straight away when you get it and it might work out

Gouffran on the right wing is where he should be playing he is right footed quick and if he can be bothered working hard will do well feel Cabella has been taken out because it will be very physical today and Sam would set players to kick him all over the place !

Just seen Perez getting interviewed on Sky Sports News fantastic banter !

This tiote witch hunt is a effing joke.

People’s minds running away with a conspiracy theory with less empirical evidence to back it up than the existence of extra terrestrial life.

Please can someone here provide the basis for why people have turned on tiote and seem to believe he wants out.

bills-son – We would no doubt be top of the league if half of these clowns were in charge. Football Manager heroes.

I also wanted to murder Pardew 6 games ago as well as remove Goofy, but Pardew knows what he is doing. The selection should be enough to compete with that Hammers side.

Agree. Gouffy doesn’t do enough for me but in a game like today against an opposition that will not be afraid to be physical and will make it difficult np,us we are playing away.

Cabella could be a weakness in a game like today where we are likely to surrender a lot of possession.

LGFUAD21 – totally agree on Tiote.

Some fans always want a player to pick on – and the flavor of the month is Tiote.

I bet if you took a poll of Toon players and asked them who they always want in the side Tiote would top the list.

Not sure about others, but I do not want Tiote in the team because A. I don’t rate him. B. I think the team dynamics have looked better with him out of the side.

The wearing of an Arsenal shirt and reports of him wanting to leave are a separate issue.

Gouffran and Janmaat could be good on the right hand side if Gouffran can be bothered and attack the fullback like he did last season before Cabaye left

Him and Sammy need to get into the box when the other winger has the ball making late runs because we dont do enough of that

With goofy in the team I’d expect the formation to be more 4-5-1 than 4-3-3

    Sammy-sissoko-tiote-colback-goofy

    ————-Perez————–

Or possibly the kings preferred formation of 4-2-3-1

    ——-Tiote-Colback——-

    Sammy—–Sissoko—–Goofy

    ———–Perez———–

Perez will be isolated in this formation as the 3 that are behind him main priority will be to defend. With goofy offering nothing going forward as usual because his task will be to protect the fullback. Hope to god I’m wrong and he sticks to 4-3-3 and goofy has a stomper today.

Would not complain about Mr T – tremendous player (as long as he keeps it simple). Biggest heart at the club, best engine and as I’ve said before if I was an opposition player I would hate him chasing me down.
If Krul is injured I suppose it has to be Elliot to stand in. I always get the feeling he is wobblier than a jelly and looks always a bit Tubby and on the verge of panicking. His distribution is miles better than Krul though.

    True on wingers.

Even more so with haidara and janmaat who are never shy of getting forward.

If the wingers aren’t tucking in on the attack we’re left with Perez and socks for goal threat which isn’t enough.

    answer just negative people.

raylor and abeid are both INJURED so you can’t play them.

anita is considered by most the least interested of the lot.

tiote wanting to leave-just plain old paper talk and don’t forget cabaye, remy and debuchy all performed well as individuals after a strike, whilst on loan and when he best mate had left respectively so whats the chances of tiote not proving himself a great CDM for others to buy?

Whether its 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 is irrelevant. The only different is what your wingers are doing.

A 4-3-3 can easily be made a 4-2-3-1 or 4-5-1 through no fault of the team if the oppositions fullbacks and wingers are pushing players back.

In either formation you need your wingers to attack to create and score goals.

This line-up really places the responsibility on socks to attack. If he’s kept quiet by west ham we’ll really struggle.

That said sammy against jenkinson should be an interesting battle. Jenkinson is a solid young rb but sammy will be able to trouble him i think.

The more socks becomes a threat the more space Perez will get and it’s when defenders don’t pay attention that Perez creates space to exploit.
