My Top Striker Will Be Fresh For Newcastle – Mourinho

Diego Costa has 11 Premier League goals this season, just one behind the leader Sergio Aguero of Manchester City, but Costa will not add to his total on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge against Tottenham, because he picked up his fifth yellow car don the 0-0 draw at Sunderland on Saturday.

Diego Costa – misses Spurs game – fresh for Newcastle

The Spanish striker picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in Chelsea’s 0-0 draw at Sunderland on Saturday, meaning he will have to sit out the Spurs game on Wednesday night.

The Portuguese coach, who was mentored by Bobby Robson while Bobby was at a number of top Portuguese and Spanish clubs in the 1990s, said this about the absence of his top striker Diego Costa for the mid-week game:

“It’s never a blessing. We want the best players to play, but it is reality he is suspended.” “I think Moussa Sissoko at Newcastle is in the same situation. I don’t think he can play in the next game.”

“Alan Pardew is going to miss him, but after that he is fresh to play against us. That is football.” “And in this busy period, when you play so many matches, for players to get a fifth yellow card and one game to rest.”

“it is not good for the team but individually it gives them a new energy.”

Local lad Jack Colback is also suspended for picking up five yellow cards, so he’s in the same situation as Sissoko and Costa in missing the mid-week game.

We’re not sure how many players we will have back from injury for tomorrow night’s game at Burnley – but Fab Coloccini, Rolando Aarons and maybe Mehdi Abeid could be available for the upcoming tough game against Chelsea.

We could find that out today with Alan Pardew scheduled to give his press conference for the Burnley game today.

In last season’s  fixture we beat Chelsea 2-0 at St. James’ Park, but the London side are much improved this season.

The last time we played Burnley in any competition was way back in the 1982-1983 season on Saturday 19th March 1983, when we lost 1-0 at Turf Moor.

That was 31 years ago, when I was a young looking 60. 😀

    If you go on

will give you an up to date injury list of teams. Usually pretty accurate.
Abeid and colo could be back

If Colo and Abeid are available, then there shouldn’t be a problem fielding a strong team (and reasonably strong bench) against Burnley. These would be the players that Pards could pick from:

    2 Goalkeepers: Elliot, Alnwick
5 Defenders: Colo, Dummett, Steven Taylor, Williamson, Haidara
7 Midfielders: Abeid, Anita, Bigirimana, Cabella, Colback, Sissoko, Tiote
7 Forwards: Cisse, Ferreyra, Gouffran, Perez, Riviere, Sammy Ameobi, Armstrong

Colback and sissoko are banned, Abeid’s looking unlikely. Tiote, Anita and bigi lack match fitness so the centre mid position is slim pickings at the moment.

If janmaat doesn’t make it and our formation stays the same I wouldn’t be surprised to see this team.

If not Perez then cisse and hopefully cabella if he plays, behind the striker as a link between midfield and up top.

I’d prefer not to use 4-2-3-1 as it’s way to rigid a formation for us. 4-3-3 with dummett replacing colo (been out injured too long to just waltz back in) and hadaira replacing dummett at LB.

I think Perez would work well either side of cisse. Obviously this could be easily changed to 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 if needs must.

I’m hoping we attack from the off and have a good go at them. Think it’ll be a lot like the west ham game in all honesty. Very close with a single goal deciding it.
