In what was an unbelievable performance by Newcastle, especially in that second half, we inflicted the first defeat on Chelsea today at St, James’ Park and our third successive win in this fixture – and that was in spite of Rob Elliot having to leave the game and Steven Taylor managing to get himself sent off after 0 minutes.
Newcastle players at the end of an incredible win
Newcastle had to bring on 21 year-old Jak Alnwick for his first appearance for Newcastle and he did quite well although was a bit at fault for Drogba’s goal after 82 minutes.
But by that time Newcastle were two goals up through – well who else – Cisse who had been brough on as a substitute after 57 minutes and 78 minutes – and the referee added a full six minutes of stoppage time – to try to allow Chelsea to at least draw the game and save their unbeaten record.
But our lads held out and given the adversities the side had to endure today it was unbelievable.
This is what we said in one of our articles this morning:
That comment about playing friendlies should only help our players – and tremendous determination and a never say die attitude can get some shock results.
We’ll have a report of the game out soon – we think Mourinho’s comments before the game didn’t help his side.
Newcastle move up to 7th place as the other games are now underway.
Did I say it was unbelievable?
Howay The Lads!!
