Coloccini, Cabella and Ameobi Start Against Chelsea

nufc emblemchelsea

Alan Pardew has just announced the Newcastle team for today’s game at home to Chelsea,  and there’s a shock that Sammy Ameobi is in the side, after Alan had said little about Sammy’s injury over the last couple of days.

The good news is that Coloccini is back to partner Steven Taylor at the back,  and Dummett moves back to left back and the unfortunate Haidara is back on the bench.

Heres the teams for today – with the Magpies in a 4-3-3 formation and Sissoko, Colback and Tiote look a strong midfield three.

Newcastle (4-3-3): Rob Elliot; Daryl Janmaat, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Paul Dummett; Moussa Sissoko, Cheick Tiote, Jack Colback; Remy Cabella, Ayoze Perez, Sammy Ameobi
Substitutes: Jak Alnwick, Massadio Haidara, Mike Williamson, Vurnon Anita, Yoan Gouffran, Emmanuel Riviere, Papiss Cisse

Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Thibaut Courtois; Branislav Ivanovic, Gary Cahill, John Terry (c), Cesar Azpilicueta; John Obi Mikel, Cesc Fabregas; Willian, Oscar, Eden Hazard; Diego Costa
Substitutes: Petr Cech, Filipe Luis, Kurt Zouma, Ramires, Andre Schurrle, Loic Remy, Didier Drogba

Referee: Martin Atkinson (Yorkshire)

As expected Diego Costa starts up front and Mikel comes in for the suspended Matic in midfield – and Loic Remy is on the bench.

And there’s no Mehdi Abeid – so we don’t know if that means he’s picked up an injury in training – and Remy Cabella gets the start over Yoan Gouffran – so this is a strong Newcastle side today – but it needs to be too.

Apart form Tim Krul in goal – this is probably Newcastle’s strongest side right now, with Siem de Jong and Davide Santon still missing through injury.

Young Ayoze Perez is back in the starting line-up with Papiss Cisse on the bench – and look for the 21 year-old Spaniard to do a lot of work in the first half – after he was pulled at half time by the manager at Burnley.

It’s not going to be an easy game against Chelsea today, the best side in the Premier League so far this season, and they are coming off a 3-0 demolition of Tottenham on Wednesday night.

Almost half of Newcastle fans think we will lose this game today.

Thought Sammi was out injured ed ??
Still think most of us would take a draw today against Chelski.
Hopefully Cabella will start to come good as he was instrumental in turning the game around against burnley

No Abied, think he should at least be on the bench.
Tiote slows our counters so I would have preferred Mehdi.

Cisse should start as our leading scorer. Cabella on one flank, Perez on the other( was a winger at Tennerife).

I’m a big fan of Perez, buy would have started Riverier in this game.
Simply because he can hold the ball up.

Agree I think Cahill and Terry will shackle Perez as he is still to lightweight.

Disappopinted that Abeid is not playing – as previous said -I bet it’s his toe again probably another one brought back too quick.
On paper, but acknowledging that anything can happen in football, we should probably be getting a good hiding today.
    So I’m reluctantly going for a 4 -0 whooping.

Would have still had Dummet at CB and Haidara at LB, but otherwise happy with the team.

Would have loved to have had the quality of Loic remy or Ba at our disposal. I just don’t understand how we keep going for unproven players when we can ill afford it.
Faccunda is obviously not good enough and Riviere doesn’t look an out and out forward. Have high hopes for Perez, But I think were pinning our hopes on him to soon

Poor Pardew. He will play Cabella winger again.Poor.Ameobi will be lost.Haidara on the bench-poor decision.Steven Taylor and Coloccini together-great.Strong DM trio-great.If any player can be needed by Chelsea in the future that is maestro Remy Cabella.Mourinho appreciates useful players.

the cynic in me thinks Abied didnt make the bench because we would be asking why is he on there and not starting, so if he is not on there we cannot question it,

very strange that not one mention of an injury to him before now

the gamble by pardew is he “hopes” we get a draw to justify not playing him,

but like i said on the last thread, i think he has just parked the bus , perez is going to get no support today and is going to have to do a crazy amount of running as we will sit so deep it will

dont know why Saylor walks into CDF along with Colo, as i think its a bit unfair on Dummett who has been our best CB of late,

unless we are going to play some type of 352

i think we be smashed 5-0

I would like to see a bit more of riviere because think he has pace and power just think he was left out to dry up top on his own when we were having tht awful run of form,, he got more goals than both falcoa and James rodriguez in his last season at monaco haha injuries I know jus like to be optimistic..

In the words of the Beatles, Perez and Ameobi seem to ‘go together well’ so perhaps we can get a point out of this.

This is a very attacking selection. I suppose if the feeling is that Chelsea will walk this then there is no point in having a defensive team. Might as well take risks and attack. No disgrace to lose to this very good Chelsea team.

Without Matic now is the time for Tiote and Colback to dominate midfield. Could be a very tough day for Perez but Chelsea’s central defensive are more used to facing a big centre forward so there may be a chance for Perez.

Here we goooooo! Feeling strangely positive, get the money on a 1-0 win! It came to me in a dream (but Obertan scored)…

Abeid is definitely injured, if he wasn’t he would be in the team or on the bench.

    Anyone got any links?

Our defence gives away too many chances during a game.

Costa is too clinical in front of goal, so he will score for sure.

    Unfortunately….2-0 Chelsea

If we can rough them up and be aggressive from the start then maybe we have a chance. Let them play and were in for a very long afternoon.
your right abt the importance of Mr t and Colback today and these 2 lads need to cut off there attacking supply line and thwart there attacks

A great run aided by Tiote’s inability to be patient and always wanting to win the ball at the earliest opportunity. Suppose he had to because he’d have got burned for speed, the slowpoke.
