It Was A Thoroughly Deserved Win – Alan Shearer

Alan Shearer on BBC Sport last night said that he thought Chelsea missed the suspended Nemanja Matic in their first defeat in 23 games to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park yesterday afternoon – a ground where Jose Mourinho has never won.

Alan Shearer – it was a thoroughly deserved win

The Serbian International was suspended for picking up his 5th yellow card in their dominating 3-0 win against Tottenham last Wednesday night, and that could have been a little bit of luck for Newcastle.

Mikel came in for his first start in the Premier League this season, and he was not as effective as the brilliant Serbian International, who has been one of the Blues’ best players this season.

This is what Alan told BBC Sport:

“Chelsea didn’t play that well,” “There is no doubt they missed Nemanja Matic. He has started every game for them this season but John Mikel Obi was in there against Newcastle and didn’t do as well.¨

¨In the build-up to Newcastle’s second goal, Mikel dives in, Eden Hazard dives in. There is no one sitting in front of the back four.#

“That said it was a really committed Newcastle performance. They were really well organised and every player knew what job they had to do. It was a thoroughly deserved win.”

Just in case – on the off-chance – there are some Newcastle youngsters out there who don’t know just how great Alan Shearer was – he played 404 times for Newcastle United with a club record 206 goals – and in his career overall he played 734 games with 379 goals.

Alan was captain of both England and Newcastle and played 60 times with 29 goals for his country, and he was as great a player as his record suggests.

Oh – and he scored a record 260 Premier League goals – 148 of those for Newcastle United.

Shearer is a legend but is an idiot sometimes.
Jon Obi Mikel is a champions league winner and hardly a big downgrade on Matic.
When MAtic plays there are many occasions when “there is no one sitting in front of the back four” that don’t result in Chelsea conceding goals!
The reason we scored was Colback dispossessing a chelsea player, Ayoze beating two men, Colback threading through a delectable pass to Sissoko and Cisse finishing an excellent move

Nothing to do with Matic being replaced by Mikel
I thought he actually played very well for Chelsea

Newcastle were missing more key players than Chelsea and thoroughly deserved the win

Do you actually read, toonbrother, or do you just like to conflate words with whatever you feel is right?

He didn’t say he was a downgrade, he said that the in form Matic was missed, and Mikel didn’t impose himself on the game (which is true). At no point was “downgrade” mentioned.

Chelsea making Arsenal look like a Pardew teammag92 // Oct 5, 2014 at 8:35 PM

Cabella is well on the way to joining the other players ruined by the worst manager in football, Marveaux, HBA, MYM, Biggi, Haidarra, Obertan, Anita, Sissoko and the list grows as he becomes more desperate to get a result.

I wonder who got the poke in the eye

    You’re the idiot.

Matic is absolute class and has been an ever present in all competitions this season until they played us.

Mikel is a mammoth downgrade on Matic.

It’s rather sad and pathetic, when a grown man, rummages through posts and takes them completely out of context! The Hull City game, proved Pardew, is doing well, and the coffin carrier’s aren’t!

You’re completely wrong. Anyone who knows a thing about football understands the difference between Matic and Mikel. You cannot seriously think they’re even in the same league as each other. Matic is a top 50 player. Mikel top 500 at best.

I would love to hear your version of the bigger picture,

but while I wait , il give you mine ,

football , like most sports is about winning, it’s about going out there with some passion, giving it your very best and see who comes our on top,
now there are 2 main areas that make you great at a sport, ( as an individual ) physical abilities and mental abilities , some days you only need your physical abilities ( skill) to win , other days you have to think that little bit harder about your opponent ,

this week has been the perfect example of that , Chelsea and Burnley both top and bottom ends of the division , even with the players we had out against Burnley , we should have still had enough in our squad to turn them over, instead we parked the bus against them , something I find very strange, as this team is among the faves to go straight back down,
now look at the Chelsea game, pardew still parked the bus , but IMO played with a more attack minded team ,

Perez may be he can play AMC , but for us he has been one of our beat cf , cabella is IMO a better AMC , looked decent when he did get on against burnley , yet stuck out on the wing vs Chelsea and the game passed him by because everything seemed to go down our left.

just because a player has played in a position before doesn’t mean he will be good at it or will not excel in another position,

Bale started as a left back , but would you put him back there ? I would not , you would lose to much of his attacking abilities,

dummett , LB or CB for me he is CB , he is not that comfortable getting forward , I’d go as far as to say he has been our best CB this season , will he stay there ? no

abied since he has been given his chance , the kid has been our best all round cmf , will he be given a fair chance to make it his own position ?
    no I don’t think so

so does your version of the bigger picture include leaving out your better players ?

in regards to HBA , this is not vindication that pardew was right , far from it , he was forced out the club, I’m pretty sure that has a big part to play in his state of mind, and didn’t Hull sign a lot of other players ?picking on just one player when your team loses games with him in it or not , seems very P45 ish to me ,

you don’t need coaching badges to watch football to understand it, that’s just you trying to lord it over others as some great font of knowledge, your entitled to your opinions but they don’t make mine invalid just because you have these badges

    @Sliema
Anyone who understands the English Language knows I have not questioned the difference between Matic and Mikel. I said Mikel was not a “BIG downgrade on Matic” yesterday and Chelsea conceding the second goal had nothing to do with Matic’s absence. When Matic is on the pitch, there are times their back four isn’t protected. If anything Matic is more adventurous than Mikel. He leaves their back four unprotected more often than Mikel and they dont concede goals like the one they conceded yesterday. Our players deserve the credit for the goal more than Matic’s absence.
Now why don’t you go find something better to do like jerk off to the large Matic poster on your wall?

o.k……so to change the subject 🙂

alnwick had a good game yesterday and prob the best i’ve seen him play tbh but dont let that get your hopes up guys !
he’s been avg at best keeper for a year or 2 now after a very promising start in his younger years where it looked like he would be our next best thing ! sadly he’s the saylor of goalkeeping with far far too many mistakes.

only saying this because he will be looking for a new club after being released from us at the end of the season at my best guess and some of our fans may get a bit stary eyed by the hype of him atm.

woodman is allready on his level and above imo and darlow is leagues ahead.

On the matic/Mikel debate. One is hands down, far superior to the other. Mikel has never really settled in the prem. I’ve always thought he’s overrated and tbh he’s never done anything special has he? Don’t say he’s won the champions league as you could say Cabaye won the french league but how much impact did he or both have towards them? Not much. Matic has shown chelsea how silly they were letting him go and buying him back for £21. The guy is an absolute beast.

Just thought I’d chip in here and say Mikel is nowhere near the player Matic is. There’s a reason he’s still there and it’s because he’s happy to be highly paid back up, he’s always been regarded as one of Chelsea’s weaker players.
What Shearer says it’s pretty spot on in my opinion, if Matic had played they probably would have won the game, but it doesn’t take anything away from our goal. We worked it well and scored, enough said.
