Mike Ashley Has No Chance Of Signing This Striker

The Star is reporting that Mike Ashley wants to sign Burnley striker Danny Ings -but for Rangers!

Danny Ings – Ashley wants him for Rangers – no chance

Let’s cut to the chase – there’s as much chance of Rangers tempting Danny Ings up to Glasgow, as there is of a snowball’s chance  in hell.

None.

Danny is playing in the top football league in the world right now, and showing he can score goals at the highest level, so why on earth would he want to move to Scotland to their second division.

That’s not meant to be a slight against Rangers or their loyal fans – and we fully expect Rangers to be challenging Celtic for the Scottish Premier League title soon – but that may have to wait until the season after next.

And could Rangers even afford his wages, given that the Scottish powerhouse are still struggling financially, which is why Mike Ashley moved in with a loan deal that gave him control of the club.

There’s some concern north of the border that Rangers may not be able to make it back to the Scottish Premier League this season.

They are currently 9 points behind Hearts after 15 games played, and it’s looking a little like they may have to wait until next season now to get promoted.

A really vital game – a 6 pointer – was a couple of weeks ago when Hearts beat Rangers 2-0 at home, with two second half goals from Holt and Walker.

And we’re sure former Newcastle Managing Director Derek LLambias is working hard on how to get Rangers promoted this season.

Maybe having some top Newcastle youngsters like Remie Streete and Callum Roberts (and even Adam Armstrong) on loan up there from next month could help Rangers catch Hearts?

Danny Ings becomes a free agent next summer when his contract runs out, and there have been constant reports that Newcastle will make an effort to sign the striker in January, so that Burnley get a transfer fee for him – which they will not get if they wait until the summer..

And the 22 year-old had an excellent game against Newcastle last week in the 1-1 draw at Burnley,  and his performance will only have  increased Newcastle’s efforts to try to get the English striker in January.

Danny has scored 4 goals in 11 appearances for Burnley so far this season, and in this his fourth season at the club he has 104 total appearances with 36 goals.

What do you think?

What is the point of Jak Alnwick being at the club, rather than on loan if we are going to bring in a keeper on loan to play when Elliot and Krul aren’t available. Wouldn’t be keen on Schwarzer arriving at all, unless he was coming to sit on our bench ahead of Woodman.

Jak needs some playing time if he is to continue developing. I’m happy for the club to give him his chance while the other 2 are out.

I agree on getting in someone like Scwarzer.

One bad mistake could shatter Alnwick’s confidence and their is a reason why he is out of contract this summer. We can’t risk having our difficult to beat run being affected through sentiment to an unproven local rooky in a key position like goalie.

    Lil,
I think/hope it would to be on the bench in case of another injury or worse still the lad had a complete howler and was shot to pieces. What happened to this injury expert we had ?

    Bills,
What is the reason for him being out of contract? The same as virtually all our kids when they are coming through. Dummet the other year was at the same stage, same with Sammi now. Alnwick is a good goalkeeper, but hasn’t had a chance to show it at senior level as the club have not been able to loan out in case of injuries.

If Schwarzer was coming in as back up, then fine. I’d prefer Schwarzer on the bench to Woodman or Woolston at this stage as they are better served continuing in age group football for now.

    Bills,
No sentiment involved, I watched him a number of times for the U18’s before I moved away, and he is a very capable keeper. Represented England U18’s as well.

    Jail,
The fitness coach from Everton? I think it is unfair to blame him, since 2010/11 we have been in the top 5 clubs for injuries throughout a season so the problem obviously runs deeper than just a fitness coach.

The top and bottom of this Ings to Rangers story is simple, if somehow MA does get the lad signed up for Rangers, then our future looks bleak to say the least. I would understand if he was trying to sign a Grant Holt for Rangers or someone but a prem striker to a team that are probably still going to be in Scottish Championship next year
