Manchester City have some injury concerns with their strikers, and Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic are currently out injured.
Papiss Cisse scores his first goal against Chelsea on Saturday
And there is news in the Star that Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini wants to sign Newcastle’s Papiss Cisse for £20M in January.
Papiss started his career at Newcastle in great form scoring 13 goals in his first 14 games, almost three years ago in January, 2012.
And he is showing that same form this season, with a phenomenal 7 Premier League goals in just 9 appearances.
He missed the beginning of the season recovering from a broken knee-cap he suffered last April, but in his first appearance against Hull City when he was brough on for the final 31 minutes, he scored two opportunist goals to get Newcastle a 2-2 draw, after we were 2-0 down when he came on.
The bad news about Sergio Aguero is that his injury is worse than first thought, and he will now be out about eight weeks after damaging the ligaments of his knee.
But we would be very surprised if City do in fact bid £20M for the 33 times capped Senegal International striker, who has scored 16 goals for his country.
Papiss will also be on duty for Senegal in the African Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea, and he will join the Senegal squad in early January, and that could complicate any deal.
But if City do bid £20M for Cisse, we think owner Mike Ashley may even accept the offer, and for the third January running a top player could be allowed to leave the club.
Demba Ba left for Chelsea two years ago and Papiss Cisse was allowed to join PSG last January.
It would not be a good decision to let Papiss Cisse leave in January.
What do you think?

Comment #41As much as we need Cisse at the moment I’d bite their hand at 20 million.
He is getting getting on in age and we could use that money to get a better striker than Cisse. Riviere and Perez could do a job in the mean time. Would also be a good excuse to blood Armstrong. We are not in danger of relegation anymore.
I love Cisse but I kinda hope this story is true. Which it’s not of course.

Comment #42What has Cisse done over the last 2 seasons to warrant a 20m price tag ?? Come on lads get sensible. . If we get our money back , we’ve done well .

Comment #43You’ve got to wonder where these stories come from, if not from agents or the imagination of the writer. If they are remotely true, how do they come to the attention of the Star, or any other Red Top comic, before the deal is done. It is nonsense, isn’t it, to fill copy.

Comment #44Or players, I guess. I’m sure players who fancy a move, or whose contract is up for renewal, do this sort of thing habitually, if they are at all savvy. Is Cisse, angling for a move or better terms?

Comment #45A “penchant for fine wines and great seafood.” Fair enough, the Mornington Peninsula, but “sun bronzed muscular expat geordie”, good grief man, we didn’t come down in the last shower, by any calculation you can’t be a day under 60.

Comment #46I would sell Cisse even for 15 mil, and would have brougth a better striker who could retain possession and provide better pass. Cisse is a fluke, I doubt his abilities.

Comment #48Let’s remember also that papers “big up” the
value of any deal to make a headline.
Even if it happened, a £20 million “deal” would
include wages and potential bonuses for the full
length of the contract.

We accuse MA of being after the money but most of you guys are willing to take the money and run…
To them, 20 mil is like 20 cents to you. If he doesn’t work out, no big deal.
To us, he’s our top scorer, whether you like him or not. You don’t sell your top scorer mid season.

It’s anyones guess how much Cisse would get from
such a deal, but I don’t suppose he would have to
borrow from Wonga to bring in the groceries!

He means that we as fans can only guess. Of course, the agents and clubs will negotiate, but right now nobody can predict with much assurance what he would get from such a deal.

Comment #56Some interesting odds on tomorrows game:
Aarons at 91/1 to score the only goal of the game;
Ramsey at 46/1 to score first in a 2-1 Arsenal win.
Hmmm – I’m not tempted.

Comment #59End of the line. Like always. If there’s anyone out there…
Why do managers always complain about the fans (eg Wenger, Pardew… for christ’s sake if there were no fans there’d be no football. Give us a break… No fans no football!

Comment #66You could mount a pretty strong argument that Pardew has overachieved at Newcastle, starting with the season we finished fifth. I don’t think many would argue we were the fifth best squad in England at the time, so that achievement speaks for itself, and Pardew wins Manager of the Year.
We go into Europe, too early by the clubs own admission, and with a squad that really wasn’t deep enough to compete in two premium competitions, get to the quarter finals of the Europa League and unluckily go out to the eventual winners. The very good form shown in that competition, perhaps as much as our poor form in the EPL due you’d think to the thin squad, prompts which owner to invest in 5 good quality signings, which help propel the side into the top 5 by Christmas the following year, playing some very nice football along the way. The quarterback is sold, the rest is history, yet in the aftermath another team is built, that has gone on to win 7 out of the last nine, and the manager deservedly picks up his third manager of the month award in his time as manager at Newcastle, to go along with a manager of the year award he collected in his first full season in the job.
The obvious flip side to all that, the horrible runs of form, the unseemly sideline altercations, the dreadful derby performances are impossible to ignore and could easily warrant dismissal, but nor then can you ignore the circumstances surrounding the job or the behaviour of the owner, which I think is the view taken and now lauded by the owner, when he held his resolve and refused to sack him despite torrents of abuse raining down on him from the stands. It’s been a fairly remarkable tenure.

Just had a thought… Maybe Cisse’s knee has fully recovered and Pardew is deploying an genious tactic- I know, trying not to laugh when I was writing Pardew and genious tactic in the same line- so that teams dont think he is going to start, in addition, they therfore wont be prepared for him. It will also give Pardew the excuse of saying its because hes unfit if he doesnt perform well since we didnt exactly sign an amazing first-team striker in the summer. With the acception to young Perez who I think was a steal.

Comment #69Fragile. I think that is the term for anything Pardew or Mashley achieves. The reason for that? They’re not really interested in creating a sustainable future. Pardew wants to keep his job and Mashley is in business… 6 months is their limit

Comment #70Runheed, I think the club is quite plainly building a sustainable future for itself. The concern is surely can we actually genuinely attempt to win something doing it, otherwise what really is the point.

Comment #71Hmm. Thanks jimmysmith. I’m not sure what ‘sustainable’o might mean here. In a financial sense it looks good IF TV revenues continue. I don’t think that is in fact very likely. As for winning something? I remember being in the centre paddock for Jackie Milburn’s testimonial…and that was absolutely magical. I remember going to reserve matches with my dad. Again, a fantastically positive experience. Apart from having my ear glued to a transistor radio for the Fairs cup win… My youngest son loves the toon. Because I do. It’s a miserable legacy

Comment #72Cisse has these purple patches where he is in the right place at the right time but his overall play and contribution is non existant he is not a good player never was you need a consistant goal scorer not a flash in the pan one sell him for £8 mil to anybody that will have him in january and he is an ass licking pardew lover
The next Mike Williamson

Comment #73When we first bought him he played in 433 and had support from BEn Arfa, Cabaye, and Ba. He was getting a goal a game then and now we’re playing 433 again and he has support from wingers he’s doing it again. I don’t think he can be blamed for the two years we reverted back to Pardews preferred negative tactics. Still, I’d snap their hands off for £20m
