It seems that Alan Pardew told his players after the game on Saturday what a lot of the reports of the game have pointed out – Newcastle players seemed to turn up at the Emirates on Saturday expecting to get a result.
Alan Pardew – come on lads – wake up
What was missing big time was the performance that would enable that – and the result was that we were outclassed.
Mike Williamson has revealed what the Newcastle manager said to them after the game on Saturday and it seems spot on to us.
This is what big Mike told the Chronicle after the game:
“I don’t think it was about our energy levels or our character.” “It was about the quality.” “Individually and collectively we didn’t reach the standards we did last week.”
“That was the frustrating part.” “The manager said after the game that you can’t expect to turn up and put a display on, like we did and expect to win.”
“It was a hard one to take.” “It’s a tough place to come and we felt we didn’t perform to the level we did last week against Chelsea.” “That was the frustrating part for us.
“Arsenal are a fantastic team and fantastic individuals regardless of what XI they put out.“It was a difficult night for us.”
“We’ve got a great squad and we are reaching deep into it.” “The lads that have come into the team have done fantastic.” “We have to just take the positives and make sure we get ready for Wednesday.”
The Premier League is a very difficult league to play in week in week out, and if a team turns up for any game – whatever team it’s against – and expects something from the game without putting in a top performance – that will nearly always result in a defeat – as it did for Newcastle on Saturday.
We don’t want to be too hard on the lads, because it’s only one game, but what we need to see from them are two out-and-out 100% performances in the games at Tottenham and at home to Sunderland.
And if we see that from our players, there will not be too many complaints, whatever the results.
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #3We need him since both our experienced keepers are injured, without meaning to point out the obvious. Of course he wouldn’t be playing if they were fit. But which of the goals were his fault? Nobody said he’s the greatest keeper…

Comment #9It’s a big problem if he isn’t up to it, and if the defence knows it, and then if Alnwick has sensed it. Then you have to play Woodman, and that really is the last throw of the dice. Pardew might need to bluff the lot of them through this maybe, if it isn’t too late already.

I wouldn’t say i’ve switched from Optimism to pessism. I’ve been an on the fence kinna guy regarding Ashelys intenion since day one. Im merely opinionating on current form and upcoming fixtures, which i view to be more realistic than pessimistic!

Fair enough, the more I look at your post the more I can tell you were being realistic. Quite sad actually. A newcastle fan being realistic normally equates to pessimism rather than optimism. Shows where we are as a club I suppose.

Just stop mate, ‘since ive been on the blog’. How long ago was that ? You make it sound like it was only when you started when you talked about football. Instead of saying, ‘earlier on… Or yesterday’. The fact is, you dont anymore. You are just hoping to get a reaction. So, when did you first sign up welshie ?

Oh sorry mate, dont know what I was getting at with that ‘sad’ comment. I think I ment that it is sad that being realistic normally means you are being pessimistic as a newcastle fan.
Glad I could sum it up for you. 😀

Comment #29Can someone tell me in what significant way Alnwick was responsible for the 4-1 drubbing at Emirates? From what I’ve seen he did some decent work.
