Can Newcastle Beat Spurs In Capital One Cup?

It’s a big opportunity for Newcastle United to reach the last four of the League Cup – the Capital One Cup – on Wednesday night at White Hart Lane, and the last couple of times we have played there we have managed to win the game.

moussa sissoko sent off at west ham

Moussa Sissoko – cheer up – will be back for Newcastle at Tottenham

Spurs are coming into a little bit of form at the moment,  and certainly their young local striker Harry Kane is in top form, and will be their danger man up front.

There has to be a result on Wednesday night,  so if it’s level after 90 minutes, if will go to extra time and then penalties if needed, to find a winner.

Playing extra time would not be good for Newcastle since we have a big derby game on Sunday at home to Sunderland, but at least we have an extra day to recover.

Moussa Sissoko and Steven Taylor will be available for this game, and we may even have some injured players back.

We are still top of the injury league in the Premier League with 9 injuries., and Tottenham are second bottom with 2 injuries.

Let us know how you think the game will go on Wednesday night in London.

    Ed,

This point has been made before.

What is the point in putting up three or four posts within a few minutes? All that happens is that posters only comment on the last post you make which means the points in the others are rarely discussed.

Or, which has happened to me many times, I make a post only to find that by the time I send it you have put another one up.

I think we are going to lose this one. I don’t think Spurs will be silly enough to over commit and let us counter.

Bills-son this is a blog not a forum. Look up the difference and lay off Ed.

Can we beat Spurs? Of course we can – any team can beat any other team on the right day.

Will we beat Spurs on Wednesday night? Most unlikely if we are as well prepared as we were on Saturday. Preumably they prepared for something on Saturday – yet P45DUE says they got it wrong??

So, what did they prepare for? A game of netball? A game against another team? The excuses simply dont stack up.

Thanks for the answers guys. I didn’t exactly love our chances before hand, especially after seeing the team selection.

On to Spurs, of course we CAN beat them. All despends on which NUFC turn up though.

Obviously we’ll still have Alnwick in goal, who else will be back though? Sissoko was suspended, along with Staylor, so both will be back, right?

Ibiza Janmaat is suspended but Saylor and Sissoko will be back.

Not sure on the status of Abeid and Aarons. Tiote didn’t have the best game against Arsenal and I wouldn’t mind Abeid in there to replace him.

If Gouffran or Williamson start I swear I will switch it off.

    Bills,
I think you make a valid point, it is sometimes ridiculous the amount of threads in such a short space of time that are left with none or very few comments, there is enough time in the morning to give at least 40 mins between a thread, you are not the first person to have mentioned this. Some people don’t even try to post in the morning because of it. So ypu are left with a short window between constant new threads and that half wit welsh geordie showing up at about six o clock.

Blofal…I hadn’t realised Janmaat was out. Not ideal.

Bill & Jail…I always guessed the issue with the quantity of articles was due to Ed wanting to get to bed as it’s the early hours for him right now.

I get it’s a little frustrting, but copy and paste is not exactly a stretch to continue the debate.

    01 Krul Booked
    22 Janmaat
    27 Taylor
    02 Coloccini
    36 Dummett
    08 Anita (Cabella – 45′ )
    14 Colback Booked
    25 Obertan (Ameobi – 45′ )
    07 Sissoko
    11 Gouffran Booked
    17 Pérez (Haidara – 79′ )

that’s the team that beat spurs 2 1 back in October
if we go back to the 433 that has bought us wins this season with a front 3 of cabella perez Sammy the back 3pick themselves I think we carry a threat and are pretty balanced, I would put taylor at right back colo dummett in the middle

spurs don’t know there best back 4 and I don’t expect to see walker he has just played 2 90 mins in row after 9 months out, there also relying on individuals to get goals rather than team play although they look more of a threat with kane playing I think we can win

    Ibizatoon,
No it’s definitely not a chore, but I’m sure a Doctor in computer science doesn’t have to manually post his articles.

    Bills Son

You still think we have the strongest squad in a long time then? We were torn to shreads by a depleted Arsenal team, again as I previously stated, we have been lucky the youngsters and squad players have held their own and done well, but they cant do it every week, if we have such a strong squad why did Pardew play Sammy as a central midfielder almost?

If we have a strong squad why did Dummet not start at CB where he has done well, no he is at left back as he didnt think Hairdara was good enough to cover Alexis Sanchez. If we have such a strong squad why are we playing our young spanish centre forward on the right wing in his first season in the prem, how comes our keeper has only played a game and a half of prem football?

    Strong Squad ??

Bills Son – what you know about football can truly be written on the back of a first class stamp, and no I dont mean those bigger xmas ones either
