Mike Ashley and Rangers FC have both been given notices of complaint by the Scottish FA, and have been accused of influencing the management of the Ibrox club.
Lee Charnley with Mike Ashley
Mike Ashley owns Newcastle United outright, and he owns just less than 10% of Rangers, but is not allowed by the Scottish FA to go above 10% ownership of Rangers, because he owns Newcastle.
The Scottish FA wrote to Ashley in October seeking clarification about the extent of his ownership in Rangers FC , although it’s clear because of the £3M loan he has given Rangers to see them through the end of the year, he essentially now controls Rangers.
That seems to be what the Scottish FA is concerned about, and they want to understand exactly what the Newcastle United owner’s influence is at Rangers FC – because he officially owns less than 10% of Rangers.
Ashley has apparently failed to give the Scottish FA any clarification of his role at Rangers FC, and he is being charged with failing to behave towards the Scottish FA and its members with “the utmost good faith”.
Rangers FC are being charged with misleading the Scottish FA over the amount of influence that Ashley now has after the £3M loan.
A hearing into the matter has been set for Tuesday, January 27.
It looks like Mike Ashley isn’t exactly the most popular person with the Scottish FA at the moment.
This news comes after Rangers’ manager Ally McCoist has resigned from his position, and Rangers informed the Stock Exchange this morning, and Ally will be on a 12-month notice period, but his wages have been increased to £750K per year.
This is the statement from Rangers FC today:
“The company announces that Alastair McCoist, manager of the first team squad, has resigned. His service contract dated December 28, 2010, which was subsequently amended, has a 12-month notice period (‘Notice Period’).”
‘The directors will hold discussions with Mr McCoist to seek an amicable solution in the best interests of the company, and expect to be in a position to make a further announcement before the end of the week. During the notice period, Mr McCoist’s salary will increase significantly to £750K per annum.”
So one question is – was Mike Ashley behind McCoist’s resignation?

Comment #58“A man and a woman were having drinks when they got into an argument about who enjoyed sex more. The man said, “Men obviously enjoy sex more than women. Why do you think we’re so obsessed with getting laid?” “That doesn’t prove anything,” the woman countered. “Think about this: when your ear itches and you stick your little finger in it, wiggle it around, and then pull it out, which feels better—your ear or your finger?”

Comment #61“A cucumber, a pickle, and a penis are sitting at a bar complaining about their lives. The cucumber says, “My life sucks. I’m put in salads, and, to top them off, they pour ranch dressing all over me. My life sucks.” The pickle says, “That’s nothing compared to my life. I’m put in vinegar and stored away for months, out of sight. Man, my life is boring. I hate life.” So the penis says, “What are you guys complaining about? My life is so messed up that I feel like shooting myself. They constantly wrap me in a plastic bag, shove me in a cave, and make me do push-ups until I throw up.”

Comment #70Irishgeordie9 I think the reason you don’t get G2’s humour is because you just came in late to the whole thread, which started many moons ago with budgies, honey badgers, fong bats and many other strange characters. it’s ok that you don’t understand it, so don’t worry we won’t think any less of you.

Comment #73I can’t see the SFA with their limited resources risking a lot of money on possible court/legal fees unless they believe they have a decent case against Ashley.
The man is a proven liar in a court of law and is as dishonest as they come. He does nothing to benefit anyone but himself, it’s how the bloke is so rich….always something in it for him.
Not sure of all the possible outcomes, not read up on SFA rulings and I don’t know the ins and outs of Rangers so guess we’ll have to wait and see how this pans out.

Comment #76I can only hope Ashley decides to leave us and go to Rangers fully.
Yes he has stabilised some losses we had, which was a good thing to do. However the way he claims to be our messiah and stopped us “doing a Leeds” is utter garbage.
I hate the way he says we can’t compete financially yet “cannot sell our advertising” which says one of two things to me.
1. Incompetence – if you can’t sell prem advertising you are either an idiot when dealing with companies or unable to establish the correct value to ask for
or
2. A liar- you do not want to sell it as it conveniently benefits your other company.
And that’s just the start of the rubbish he peddles to us.

Very true, he can almost bend them over a barrel as they know how important rangers are to their league.
I know it’s controversial, and not all will agree, but I think it’s time the English leagues embrace Celtic and Rangers the way we have with Swansea and Cardiff, offer them the chance to come in at some lower level and work their way up.
They are huge worldwide clubs, them being in the prem league with 60,000 sell outs ground would be amazing. Much better than having 6/7/8 london clubs with the likes of QPR/Fulham/etc with their 20,000 seater grounds.

Well said sir. There is far too much hatred in this world now, and that’s from all sides, not just those we see as enemies. We (as nations) are all guilty of horrible acts, just we carry them out less obvious ways half the time.

Comment #80On the subject of Ashley, could the FA investigate him under the issue of fit and proper owner now that he has been charged by the SFA?
If so, does anyone know if they could impose sanctions on the club and what they might be?
