We’ve Got To Analyse The Performance – Then Forget About It

We have never been in the semi-final of any local Cup competition since we made the final of the FA Cup back in 19999, when Ruud Gullit was manager, but we were well beaten 2-0 by Manchester United.

The goals were scored by Teddy Sheringham on 11 minutes and Paul Scholes after 53 minutes, and of course Gullit was fired and Sir Bobby Robson installed as manager at the start of the next season..

Now we face Tottenham on Wednesday night in the quarter finals of the Capital One Cup at White Hart Lane, so we have a chance to reach the last four in that competition.

This is what manager Alan Pardew has said today about out current situation:

“We have been really, really good up until Arsenal.” “We need to react to this and react in the right way.” “We knew it would be difficult especially without Sissoko.”

“We didn’t quite get the balance of the side right.” “We have to look at that and prepare ourselves better and have a better set-up to the team when Moussa isn’t available.”

“I’m confident the team is in a good place.” “We have had a tough day.“We wrap it up and move on.” “That’s the one good thing about football, games come thick and fast.”

“We weren’t at it in the first half.” “We tried to come out in the second half and thought we came out quite well.” “We tried to get back in it but the second goal killed us off really.”

“We’ve got to analyse the performance.” “Then try to forget about it.” “We’ve got two massive games coming up so we have to focus, get back to work on the training field and put it right.”

It will be a very tough game for Newcastle at White Hart Lane unless our defense can put in a strong performance, including Jak Alnwick.

The good news is that both Steven Taylor and Moussa Sissoko are available after serving their one game suspensions and both could start the game on Wednesday.

With our defense looking less than solid at the Emirates, Pardew may bring in Steven Taylor for Mike Williamson, and of course Moussa will be back in midfield.

We don’t know if Rolando Aarons or Mehdi Abeid are fit again for this game, and we’ll find that out in Alan Pardew’s press conference for the game – maybe today.

Pardew and his silverware rally call!

So, I didn’t get to see the Arsenal game. Were we completely outclassed? Did our players at least give them a go – or were we doomed as soon as it became clear Willo and Gouffran were starting?

Ibiza, it wasn’t pretty at all. As P45DUE admits, we were not prepared, we didn’t perform – Its hard to buy into his comments as basically he’s saying he failed to do his job.
Then again, its not the first time and unlikely to e the last. If you cant get it right for 90 minutes, once or twice a week, what on earth are you actually doing??

Ibiza we lost because our game plan is setup to counter attack around Sissoko. Without him we were meek on the offensive and with Arsenal’s entire team of attacking midfielders we got overrun in the midfield, they had too much pace down the flanks and it was game over from the first whistle.

Can’t really make much of it given the injuries.

lilo on earlier thread . agree with you on riviere he has a poor first touch. watched quite a bit of french football the w/e and the standard is dreadful ,slow and boring. psg have better quality players but play without enthusiasm or plan. cabaye came on as sub got booked and had no effect. we should give up on scouting there . one for the marv fans since he has been injured they have won 3 on the trot beating psg at 7/1 for home win.
