Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has just announced the team for the important game at Tottenham in the quarter finals of the Capital One Cup tonight, and there’s some bad news that Cheick Tiote and Papiss Cisse are not in the squad. Sammy Ameobi is also missing?
Here’s the two sides that have been announced.
Tottenham (4-2-3-1): Michel Vorm; Vlad Chiriches, Federico Fazio, Jan Vertonghen (c), Danny Rose; Nabil Bentaleb, Benjamin Stambouli; Nacer Chadli, Christian Eriksen, Andros Townsend; Harry Kane
Substitutes: Hugo Lloris, Younes Kaboul, Kyle Naughton, Etienne Capoue, Mousa Dembele, Erik Lamela, Roberto Soldado
Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Jak Alnwick; Paul Dummett, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Massadio Haidara; Moussa Sissoko, Jack Colback; Remy Cabella, Ayoze Perez, Yoan Gouffran; Emmanuel Riviere
Substitutes: Freddie Woodman, Lubomir Satka, Remie Streete, Vurnon Anita, Haris Vuckic, Callum Roberts, Adam Armstrong
Referee: Andre Marriner (West Midlands)
It’s a 4-2-3-1 formation as expected with Sissoko and Colback to play in front of the back four.
So it looks like Tiote didn’t make it with his muscle strain, and Papiss Cisse has a heavy cold – maybe Papiss will make it for Sunday’s game against Sunderland, but Tiote is probably doubtful for that game.
Not sure what’;s up with Sammy.
So that’s 13 first team players missing from the squad tonight – with Daryl Janmaat being suspended for this game – and eleven being out injured or sick.
As expected Paul Dummett has been switched to right back and Massadio Haidara has come in on the left but Willo keeps his place alongside Colo in central defense.
There’s still no starting place for Vurnon Anita although we could see the Dutch man come on in the second half.
It’s a very young bench, which illustrates how Newcastle are down to the bare bones because of all the injuries, with Anita the only experienced player.
Youngsters Woodman, Satka, Streete, Roberts, Vuckic and Armstrong are the other players who make up the bench – and their average age is just over 18, with four having never played for Newcastle.
And it doesn’t say much for striker Facundo Ferreyra, who still cannot make the bench.
We feel a bit like we felt before the Man CIty game – but hey we won that game! 😀
Two in three Newcastle fans think we can make it through to the last four tonight.

Comment #203Compare Cabella’s performances at RW with the once maligned, ridiculed Obertan’s – night and day. Obertan has drive, genuine pace beyond the norm, frightens the opposition, better aerial ability, better strength, more effective tricks and was showing marked improvement in his determination and delivery before the poor bugger got injured.

Comment #214I’ve said for a long time we’re very unpredictable, you just never know if we’re going to turn up. But I’ve come to the conclusion we simply aren’t good enough to compete in the premier league with a few injuries to key players.
The biggest half of our squad are championship players at best.

PRACTICE!!
It was harder to miss than score…..
I could have thrusted by d**k at the ball and scored, and the fact both missed is hilarious.
Cisse would have been licking his chops all day for that, as would Perez…..
Riviere is SHI*E
And you defend him! He has missed two glorious chances. I wish I was wrong about him but he looks a donkey.
Put Armstrong on, he could do no worse.

Why has Pardew started using four forwards in the starting line up? Is he deliberately trying to prove sackpardew wrong about his tactics and doing their job them?

Comment #239I am not Pardews biggest fan but what he has done to get us where we are in the league, and the results he has got this is not his fault.
Both teams have dropped a couple of players, its not big deal.
You could argue Perez should have started up top, but we do have alot of injuries/suspensions it makes us limited. I mean have you seen the bench?
Personally I would have had Anita on, Sissoko behind and Perez up top. Yet he has done remarkably well considering the team he has at his disposal.
Think people are being abit harsh.
The guy just took us on an unbeaten streak AND won manager of the month, he cannot be THAT bad.
Think its more the players.
