Newcastle Fans Want This English Striker In January

The three strikers Newcastle have been linked with most closely in the press over the last few months are Burnley’s 22 year-old English striker Danny Ings, Anderlecht’s 20 year-old Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, and Borussia Monchengladbach’s 26 year-old German International striker Max Kruse.

And in the poll we have conducted, Danny Ings has come out on top with 43% of the vote followed by Mitrovic on 36% and Max Kruse on 21%.

Which Striker Do You Want Newcastle To Sign In January?

View Results
Loading ... Loading ...

With Danny’s contract running out in June, we think he would cost around £3M in January, with Mitrovic possibly costing more than £10M, and Max Kruse being priced around £7M.

With two pf the strikers we brought in last summer, Frenchman Manu Riviere and on-loan Argentine Facundo Ferreyra not showing through much at all so far this season, it would be good if Newcastle can bring in a decent striker to help Papiss Cisse and the young impressive 21 year-old Spaniard Ayoze Perez up front.

It remains to be seen if Burnley will cash in on Danny Ings in the January transfer window, rather than lose him for nothing in the summer, but SkyBet have Newcastle at 10/11 odds on favorites to sign him in January.

But SkyBet also have Danny at 4/5 odds on to stay at Burnley until the summer.

Danny has scored four goals in 14 appearances for Burnley this season, and Alan Pardew is known to be a big admirer of the Hampshire born youngster.

And in our 1-1 draw at Turf Moor a few weeks ago, Ings looked impressive and was easily Burnley’s  best player.

What do you think?

I don’t think it would suit Swanseas passing, low scoring style.

Depending on how we play I’m not sure ST is top priority anymore.
4231/433 only needs 1, we have Cisse and Perez both inform, Armstrong looking decent, and even Siem De Jong can play there if absolutely necessary.

For me if we want to play 1 up top, a winger is vital. Sammy/obertan/gouffran are average at best and even they (2/3) have shown that if we have a real winger we are much better, so if we can get an above average winger I’d snatch him up.
Also a CB wouldnt be bad considering Colo will be leaving, Willo isnt good enough, Staylor can be but can also be injury prone/dumb (though Dummet-colo have looked great together)

Just my opinion of course but AP has 2 IF strikers yet still plays 1 upfront 433/4231 so I dont see what bringing in another ‘decent’ ST will do other than fight with Perez+Cisse for that spot. (Unless of course we sell Cisse as he is Inform and 29)

    TT,
As has been the case for about seven years now, we need a top CB and if we don’t sort one soon it won’t be long before we need two.

I voted for Ings, I think we need several others as despite popular belief the squad is average at best

The message for the Jan window should read “don’t watch this space”

Luik de Jong was a huge miss. Came to us at the wrong moment. Looked like a hard worker and powerful man. Doubt we”d go back in for him.
In be a good 3 striker but none of them three linked look great.

He did come at the wrong time but there’s no denying he had a shot like someone with a permanent dead leg

Jail, we already need 2, its as simple as that. Williamson & Collo are not up to scratch – they have the turning circle of an Ocean Liner without the acceleration!!
Get them sold, get some quality in there. Somebody will need to explain what that means to our MD & Illustrious Owner!!!

It looks like Saylor will be starting Sunday as Pardew has said in the press he’s told him to keep his emotions in check, I’m sure I’ve heard the report and Tiote was told same. So maybe Tiote starts to

Lmao, Luuk was in bad form and had some sure shanks but I bet him will come to the EPL and we will regret it. He was a tough decision. 5mill to someone who failed to produce. Still, think he would of been the guy. Perez and Ing if you want but we need a powerful goal scorer and luuk looked a hard worker. As soon as the goals came he would of been and issue with any opponent

We do need a mother striker as the only striker that looks a threat up front is Ayoze and young Armstrong but he’s more of a number 10 and untested really. I have lost faith in Cisse. He doesn’t offer much as a player at this level apart from being a good poacher what else is he good at. His first touch lets him down more often than not and if you compare him to Ayoze you realize the huge difference between the two and how ineffective he really is.

We need a proper ST and a Winger. Lacshells and Darlow will come in at the end of the season so those two problem areas of now will be sorted then.

In addition our team is so mediocre right now. Pardew has them with enough structure to be in the top ten. That’s the easy thing. Colback and tiote ain’t going to win you games but keep the other team bruised up until we hope to pouch a goal.
Wonder where siem is going to play. Sissoko better not move right

    Graeme,
Totally agree, Collo should have been allowed to leave on a free, Barton was obviously deemed surplus and a replacement deemed unnecessary where as Collo wasn’t and cold hard cash would be needed to replace him.

IMO thease players need moving on, if we could and then buy replacements, like a proper club.

Willo colo Gouffran Vukic Saylor Obertan Fereya Ferguson Guiterez, I could add Raylor and Tiote but I think both have shown they are capable of performing week in week out the others haven’t or are in the decline. Some may disagree and I bet there’s others who’d agree and think others aren’t good enough to.

There’s little to suggest Ings is in fact the striker we need to lead our line and take us the next step into the top six and I’m sure last thing Newcastle will do is buy anyone based on what the fans might think. Which is certainly a good thing. But they might of course get him in if he’s cheap though and take a punt on him along the lines of a 6 year contract at 20-30 k a week and risk seeing him in and out of the side for the entire time and taking up a valuable spot on the roster. I think that’s how we operate, and of course sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.

    Jimmy Smith

I beleive he’s on a free in the summer, due to age around £3million compensation to Burnley has been mentioned.

To be fair though, I think Newcastle are actually quite cautious in the market though, especially with strikers. Which is probably entirely necessary if you operate as we do. Remy, DeJong, Ferreyra were loans, for example. We don’t often get stiffed, but it does happen. Rivierre is perhaps a worry, Gouffran is looking a bit of a plodder. We were very unlucky with the Remy deal though. That was a good one, that slipped through our fingers and would have made us into something that bit better and separated us from two or three other sides.

    Jimmy smith… Agreed.
We do need a better striker than we have now. Perez should be learning and not leading the line.
Riverre is interesting and he needs to be given another three game run at some point. He works hard and is a tuff battle for CBs but he just hasn’t got the timing right and positional sense needed right now.
Cisse is a crocked old man with magic boots. Yet we have no one to replace him at the moment as no one else scores.
Perez and Armstrong are keepers and we need a big body and a speedster to go with them. Maybe gignac is worth a pun

I’m absolutely creased ???? reading a couple of the comments relating to Collocini! Obviously made by people who don’t have the faintest understanding of the game of football! Not up to standard? Should have been allowed to leave for free? The man is the finest CB I’ve ever seen in a black & white shirt and would walk into any team in the PL without any hesitation from the opposing manager! When he plays; we are a far better team! There are time when playing alongside Williamson that he had the work of two men! The season he was voted in the team of the year he should have went to City and played alongside Kompany & won medals! Luckily for us he did not! I love the football manager armchair fans who make these sweeping statements! Who would you replace him with; someone from some league you’ve never watched with someone who has a good scouting report on a computer game? Honestly man; that’s really cracked me up! He’s our captain; our best player and it is a priveledge to watch him; we will certainly miss him when he is gone
