John Gregory is now 60 and he has managed some big clubs including Aston Villa in the past, and he is having trouble getting good performances from his League One side Crawley Town, when they play at home.
John Gregory – now Crawley Town manager
John has admitted the crowd are right behind their team when they play at home at Broadfield Stadium, so he doesn’t understand why they are not getting good results there.
They were beaten at home 2-1 yesterday by Port Vale, and they have drawn the two home games before that, against Chesterfield and Scunthorpe – they are currently 5th bottom of League One and two points above the drop zone.
The players are under no pressure when they play at home, and Gregory has brought up the example of where there’s real pressure on players when they play at home.
The example he has used is Newcastle United and St. James’ Park.
This is what John has said in the Crawley News:
“The last home game was certainly a much better performance than this one<” Gregory said after the 2-1 loss to Port Vale.
“We seem to have a problem playing at home, I don’t understand why. Our last two away matches, at Oldham and Bristol City, have both been very good performances but the players seem to have more of a phobia of playing here at home, and I don’t understand why.”
“They need to try playing at Newcastle in front of 52,000 where you have to get up and be at them from the very first minute. “
“There is really no great crowd pressure on them here I think our fans have been good towards the team. Even when we kicked off at the start of the second half, our fans were fully behind the players as you would hope they would be.”
Well we suppose we are famous for something these days – it’s a pity it’s not for being in the top four in the Premier League.
There will be a lot of pressure on Newcastle players today if we go behind to local rivals Sunderland – that’s for sure.

Comment #161@148 – aaaaaannnndd…. there it is. the current Troll residency ably filled by mag92, worthless white noise of antagonism thinly disguised by occasional one liners of ‘football’ observations gleaned from the pool of common knowledge and unoriginality. It would be good if you could keep the deliberate annoyance down to a war cry but I’m sure you’ll be getting your scatter gun out today to throw insults and divisive comments into the fray. Tiresome and pointless individual.

Comment #162It’s days like this the time difference is a massive pain in the arse. Kick off is at 3:30 here, but the stupid dogs got me out of bed at 5am and it feels like an eternity until kick off.
Waiting, anticipating, worrying, the nerves, the excitement. Colback to lead the dressing room call to arms. Howay the lads.

That is my biggest worry about Saylor and Tiote playing. They both needlessly give away free kicks. With Fletcher in the box, and Alnwick’s confidence probably a little fragile, they will look to exploit any set pieces they can today. Add to that Larsson, Gomez and possibly Giaccherini then they have good set piece takers that could cause us serious problems.
Plus this referee seems very card happy, averages just under 4 yellows a game, and a red every 4 games. Cattermole, Tiote, Abeid, Jones and Bridcutt are all likely candidates.

Comment #172We’re going to get ripped apart by Sunderland, we have to many injuries and Pardew has reverted to his negative tactics.
As far as Sissoko goes of course he’ll be sold in the next year or so, along with any other players that makes a good profit its all part of the regime.

Comment #176@Lilongwe: I have a very fine tuned system on derby day – get up a maximum of 3 hours before the match, cuppa, off to town. It’s easy to have a bit of a lie on derby day because I can never f’ing sleep. Keeps the nerves down, at least…

Absolutely no idea mate. I haven’t heard anything about him other than he was back on crutches hobbling round Eldon Square the day after the Burnley match. If Pardew has said anything I haven’t read/heard about it.
My thoughts are he won’t be fit, but I don’t have anything to support that, just a hunch he will want to be 100% before the AFCON as he has a good chance of being involved and winning the tournament. HE owes us little, and unlike some other former players will put country ahead of club when it comes to the AFCON.

Ha, I had planned on lying in, but I have 2 dogs and am dog sitting a third whilst her owner is in the US. Anyway, the small one decided to shit all over the living room through the night, and then the other 2 got scared at a bit of thunder and lightning so woke me up.
Once I’m up, I find it very hard to go back to sleep. Having a couple of beers at home while my lunch cooks, then heading down to the pub once teams are announced.

Abeid has more red cards per game in his career than any other NUFC player. If he does play, he would be a worry for sending off. Jones is a doubt for them as well, but he has a bit of a rep for cards to. Those are just the ones that I’d say are the likely lads when it comes to seeing red.

Comment #197Anyway, I believe I taught you a sound lesson using Tiote as to how to give a reason for why you think a player is or isn’t the complete solution for his position. Your response intended to ‘school’ me into why I was wrong was so pathetic I don’t feel it’s worth bothering anyone else with again, so I won’t revisit it.
And now, mag92 I will ignore you. If everyone else who sees your obvious agenda does the same, hopefully you’ll get tired of it and either go or comply with the blog ethic of reasonable participation. Farewell

I know its lightweight up top but armstrong has shown more in his cameos then riviere or gouffran. Its a risk in a derby, but if he scores imagine what that would be like. An instant hero at 17. I really want to see how he plays properly. He would he riled up for this game being a geordie and all. We need a rw because cabella was the only bloody option.
