Newcastle play at Old Trafford tomorrow, and then we have two home games against Everton and Burnley on Sunday afternoon and Thursday afternoon – New Years Day.
Ryan Taylor – could return soon – but not for tomorrow
Then two days later we are at Leicester City in the FA Cup third round so the games are coming thick and fast.
Not many fans think we can take anything out of the game tomorrow, but we’ll have to hope we can pick up points against Everton and Burnley at home – 6 points would be great in those two games.
Alan Pardew wants too see better possession of the ball from Newcastle tomorrow:
“We have had decent performances at Old Trafford, I think, in the last three. We drew, we lost in the last minute – which was a cracking game 4-3, and then we won last year, so we have done reasonably well there.”
“One of the reasons we have done well there is we have retained possession well, and that’s something we are going to have to do because you can’t turn possession over to Manchester United with the quality they have got up front.”
“They are going well at the minute. They are on a great run, and it’s a game that every time you play them, you have to look forward to it. I certainly do and I am sure our senior players and young players will too.”
“We have a different kind of set-up to the team, and I think our retention of the ball is something we going to have to improve in the second part of the season.”
“We are always going to have a threat on the break with this team and Manchester United will be wary of that.” “But they have good control of the game at the moment, they seem to have had their best players come back.”
“Carrick has been important, of course, some I know very, very well, so we need to take away from last year’s performance the attitude to enter the game to go and win it, and win it with a structure that worked well for us.
“But of course, the opposition have a lot to say about that, and this Manchester United team has got itself in good form, so it will be a tough game for us.”
We are still struggling with 10 injuries but we could have some players back for the two upcoming home games – maybe Ryan Taylor and Davide Santon?
A draw at Old Trafford would be a very good result for us tomorrow.
What do you think?
