Armstrong And Anita Start At Old Trafford

manchester-united-fc.pngnufc emblem

Alan Pardew has just announced the Newcastle side for the tough game at Old Trafford today, and 17 year-old local lad Adam Armstrong gets a start up front, and Dutchman Vurnon Anita also gets a rare start.

Newcastle: Alnwick; Janmaat, Coloccini (c), S.Taylor, Dummett; Colback, Anita; Sissoko, Perez, Gouffran; Armstrong
Subs: Woodman, Williamson, Satka, Cabella, Vuckic, Riviere, Cisse

It seems like Adam must be showing up well in training, because the boss has talked about how he has to give him a chance in the side – and Adam gets one today.

Vurnon Anita finally gets another start, after he’s been out of the starting line-up for a couple of months, and he comes in for the suspended Cheick Tiote.

The defense is unchanged from the Sunderland game, and it looks like we may be playing in a 4-5-1 formation with Armstrong the lone striker up front.

Lubo Satka and Haris Vuckic are on the bench. as we seem to be short of players, with currently 10 players out injured, and Tiote unavailable for this game.

It’s going to be tough game today and if we are going to get anything out of it then our defense will have to put in a very good performance.

On the positive side the pressure should also be off our players since we are not expected to get anything out of this game.

We are willing to be surprised today. 😀

What can we actually do to stop Gouffran getting in this team? I’m seriously looking for suggestions, preferably illegal ones.

Wtf why is Gouffran starting AGAIN, he offers nothing and especially if pardew wants more possession then Cabella is clearly the better option. Very happy that armstrong is starting though

gouffran starts again, cabbella on the bench again well it tells me he actually doesn’t like cabbella.

the team i was expecting him to use if we used the so called love of other players would be

    ____alnwick
    jam_colo_willo_dummett
    ____sissoko__colback
    gouffran______cabbella
    _______perez__cisse

i guess he is just not keen on cabbella.

i am thinking the formaton might be designed more like 4-3-3

Pardew obviously dislikes cabella thus starting gouffran which always results in us losing.

Gouffran, Anita and Armstrong starting ? Can’t agree with that.

Giyffran is in terrible form and the other two should not be even near the first team.

Don’t think we stand a chance today. 🙁

Well………………………..this really could end up being anything today. If we lose by 7 I wouldnt be surprised.

But you never know I guess. Their defence is still weak, getting at Evans and MacNair is the obvious thing to do but dont think we will see enough of the ball to do it.

Why talk of possession and keep Cabella on the bench with Gouffy on?

i think the problem is we don’t have any wingers.

yeh cabbella might be better than gouffran but he’s not really a winger he’s a CAM, somthing we know sissoko could soon be removed from by sale, dejong is so injury prone why gamble turning cabbella into a gouffran when we could keep him preserved for the point we see sissoko sold.

the best way to get rid of him bring in the flaming RW we need. Obatan the worst last season is now a vital part, says it all really.

defeat is definate and pls dont get whacked…..i can digest a decent defeat

Cabella doesnt need to be a winger to play wide.

Chelsea play Hazard and Willian wide but they arent wingers in the traditional sense.

Lallana played wide for soton but isnt a winger, zidane played wide left most his career but isnt a winger.

If the player is good enough and the tactics are correct with width coming from the attacking fullback then the wide player can cut in and the system works.

The 1 positive is the Man Utd bench looks weak today.

Lindegaard, Rafael, Smalling, Blackett, Fletcher, A.Pereira, Wilson

Not much of a Plan B.

Dummett against Valencia is the key battle for me.

Not talking about todays match only, as a rule Cabella hasnt been played for whatever reason but if you play him wide left in place of gouffran for example and have Hairdara LB to give width then Cabella can cut inside and link the play.

Man city did it, Silva/Nasri play wide but have clichy/Kolarov/Zabaleta keeping the width so they can cut in and link the play.

What would we lose from trying it instead of Dummett LB who is good at defending but offers zero in attack and Gouffran ahead of him who contributes zero.

It wipes out the whole left side as a threat.

all the issue resolves around the combination of very poor CBs and lack of goal scorers in our team.

to have RBs consistantly advancing forward you need them goal scorers to take the chance but at newcastle that chance is low. We’ve now missed the chance the importance is defending that counter attack, our CB are very vunerable at times causing the CDM to give them assistance now we see lots of space provided for those in the width waiting for more support and soon they could score that goal.

They have a lot of power in the wings for Cabella to start, Gouffran job today is to babysit his fullback. Cabella is shite, living off his reputation from when we signed him. He’s probably put in 1 decent performance this season.

Armstrong is another that shouldn’t be starting because he’s not ready for the 1st team. Would Riviere not make sense to hold the ball up against this lot?

    Lesh (previous post)

I really hope your acceptance that AP is complicit in Ashley’s devious plans for our club doesn’t mean that you are now throwing your lot in with the likes of LR32 (Pardew hater extraordinaire) who are very noticeable by their absence when we are winning, but who jump back on the anti AP bandwagon as soon as we lose a few.
The agenda that these bloggers are following is destined to harm our club if they ever manager to get Pardew replaced, simply because, under Ashley, no one any better would be brought in to replace him, and any change of manager as we get into the second half of the season, can only unsettle the squad who are clearly playing for manager Pardew at present.
