Yoan Gouffran was tripped from behind in the first half today and Newcastle should have had a penalty even though is seems it was accidental.
Phil Jones and Yoan Gouffran – in action today
We’ve seen those given many times and it could have been crucial with the scores still 0-0.
The referee Mike Jones did give Newcastle a penalty after 86 minutes after Jack Colback had been brough down in the penalty box by Phil Jones.
This is what the Newcastle manager said after the game:
“The ref gave us a soft penalty out of guilt for the penalty he should have given us.” “The difference was their cutting edge. They were clinical.”
But while we thought Ayoze Perez and Adam Armstrong both gave a good account of themselves today, we still struggle to score goals – with Papiss Cisse still bothered by that sore knee – so we are hoping for a new striker to be brought in next month.
Manchester United were indeed clinical in front of goal today, and Wayne Rooney is some player – and the Man of the Match on both sides – and it’s interesting he still gets lots of criticism in the English press.
But that’s only because he’s such a good player.
