Who Was Newcastle’s Best Player At Old Trafford?

Newcastle went down 3-1 at Old Trafford today and Alan Pardew was right about the possession being the key stat – they had 61% of possession and the manager had said yesterday that if they get 60% – we’d be in trouble.

wayne rooney 3-1

Wayne Rooney – scored two and made one

We need to get some of our players back from the treatment room – and soon.

when you think we had conceded a goal twice today on the counter, pardew seemed to go for a more attacking set up.

it seemed to be more like a 4-3-3

the nightmare seems to be that he is the sort of manager which wants wingers, we did awful at the start of the season, the comes obatan and arrons, he gets to go 4-4-2/4-3-3 and we start doing great, now we loose them both and it’s back to square one.

desperation for wingers is bigger than ever, no way did i expect to see myself become so desperate for obatan to make his return!

a critcal flaw in our game is we dont have a forward who can hold it up and link the midfield and attack.

if you guys observice our movements upfront. it’s always players are running straight at opponents and we don’t have anyone in the box because they are still jogging there.

perez/armstrong/cisse/sissokko all did that today. just run straight at manchester once they have the ball. we need carroll or benteke like player who holds it up and lets the midfield come forward slowly.

it’s a major flaw in our game.

No good performances today aside from Ayoze! Everyone else was dire! Rooney schooled Colback. sissoko gave up after their second. gouffran offered nothing! Dummet, Taylor and Colo gave it away constantly. Knew that second was coming the moment colo ran forward. janmaat couldn’t get near Young. Alnwick had no chance for the goals tbf but was quiet as a mouse when the defense needed organising.

would have made infinitely more sense to play gouffran instead of amstrong upfront and haidara istead of gouffran in defence

    but prdumb thought different

you have poor tactical observation. sisokko was nowhere near the centre. he was playing right wing. it was almost 4-4-2 with armstrong and perez upfront but drifting wide.

a wild thought but possibly playing them in their right positions may just be a pointer. call me crazy but just an idea.

Why are so many players from Tevez and mascherano (those 2 well know no hopers) just turn to nothing under this charlatan.

Just try answering the questions for once and look beyond your blind love for pardew.

you weren’t crticising the players on the good run but all of a sudden normal service is resumed and they’re now not good enough, when coincidentally pardew decides to revert to type as we all knew he would.

Toon brother what on earth are you banging on about. You are blinded by your hatred for coloccini and to an extent armstrong. You seem fine to criticise Coloccin every game (even before they have started ) yet when we went on that good run he was pivotal for us and got absolutely no praise from you. Yes, he was poor today, but so was the rest of the defence. Cmon, where is your blaming for Dummett who kept falcoa onside for the first goal and Taylor and Janmaat who didnt challenge van persie for there third? I see your blaming young armstrong haha, you are pathetic mate, he was pretty good on his FIRST START at 17 YEARS OLD. He took a shot, so what? He was incredibly unlucky that it went straight to Rooney. He actually created our best chance in the first half bur where is your praise? Exactly. You just blame the people you dislike, therefore I and many others dont take your posts seriously. Youre such a joke.

On a side note… Perez is unreal. A true talent.

@manxpie – true what youre saying but Pardew isn’t playing any of those players in a position or system that they were successful in at their previous clubs!
Cabella was at #10. Riviere was a #10 or left winger! And Anita left Ajax and got his dutch caps playing predominantly full back.

How many times as Perez been our best man on the pitch in recent matches? Too many! A kid from the Spanish 2nd division – says a lot about our level. Sissoko wasn’t too bad today, but Colo was pathetic. Pardew has to do something about our defense, it’s a shambles, they watch the ball instead of marking their man : junior level stuff

i use to listen to a radio talk show called the 3 legends and shola ameobi might not have had much else to his game, that still didn’t stop malcolm mcdonald from giving him the amount of credit he deserves for the way he would bring the link up between the midfielders and attack.

Some people say tall phsical strikers cause hoofball, nonsense hoofball is when defenders don’t like makaing them short passes, without these strikers it becomes so easy for defenders to become a power house and this league is far more powerful than those abroad, we certainly do need that power house CF and also i will add the winger too.

i don’t expect anythng from pardew because it’s not in his DNA for his teams to produce free flowing attacking football.

if it was consistent good results with s–t play that’s one thing, but anyone seeing this kind of football when losing and being happy with it, points at a personality which can only be perceived as dull and dour.

I could be wrong maybe you’re a riot at parties. Hmm….

I would love to see Perez with a proper coach.

armstrong showed energy and enthusiasm (ran around alot) but big naivety in his play, made bad decisions on the ball, rarely passes.
Anita was average but today average makes him one of our better players. man Utd bullied our midfield, Couldn’t get near Rooney or Mata!
Vuckic actually looked tidy when he came on in 82 minute. strong, kept hold of the ball, didn’t waste posession!

Perez and Armstrong were the only positives for me. I thought Anita showed glimpses of class and may not be a write-off quite yet.

I would like to see Armstrong play for the rest of the season, there isn’t really much to play for this season, so develop him now. Vuckic will hopefully be given the same chance Gosling was last season.

Have to agree with jayphoto about armstrong. His decision making when on the ball is poor and seems to want to shoot all of the time. I’m all for him making it but he needs reined in and nurtured correctly. Bad decision by pardew to play him from the start imo.

Our tactics was wrong from the start and we never even got close to their ultra wide tactics but it was stupid mistakes again that cost us a draw.

Defending 101: Pick your player up and at least pressure them to do something amazing.

    First goal
Sissoko doesn’t track with Rooney. Colo gets stuck in middle between Van Persie and Rooney. Dummet completely forgets Falcao.

    Second goal
Man U is little bit lucky but at the same time Colback not even close on Rooney.

    Third goal
No pressure from our midfield on Rooney and still two against one with Persie. S.Taylor and Janmaat needs to sort that out better and Anita needs to be at least closer to Rooney.

exactly what you said. we need a powerhouse forward who can hold it up and bring our midfield into play.

how many times did ANY of our midfielders can into the box today? at most twice. both from sisokko.

because all our forwards did today was run at them at speed and there’s no one available to support our attacks. this in return means like armstrong taking a while shot that conceded the first goal, because no one was around him and he just took the shot. no blaming him either.

this also explains our terrible possession. with no support upfront they just run at defenders and lose. we badly need a forward to partner Perez upfront and cisse is not the answer. though he scores.

i put it at 4-3-3 but had sissoko wide for a reason

maybe i should have went like this

    ___anita__colback__sissoko
    ___gouffran_perez__armstrong.

fact is in the end the strikers and sissoko were all playing as wide men during different points in the game

you are the one with tactical nonsense because if we had been 4-4-2 strikers wouldn’t need to be out wide as they have the two widemen and the FBs to play there but when set up as 4-3-3 sissoko, gouffran, perez and armstrong were all taking it in turns to go wide.

fact is we simply don’t have proper wingers, all we have is CAM and strikers

but id bet he was baught without pardews input!

the younger players that have come through even armstrong today have shown more than our “top” signings

I see Pardew has signed another striker in Perez that was a centre forward at their pervious club and turned him into a winger like Gouffran, who did nothing today but gift them a goal after giving the ball away .

Pardew says he wants more goals yet plays our best striker on the wing, Cisse who currently has the highest goals to games ratio In the PL on the bench and lets a 17 year old lead the line .

    He is fcuking clueless .

    @IrishGeordie9

armstrong had a good game, the commentators even said so, the rubbish toonbrother is saying is just laughable, honestly he is 17 years old, starting a premier league game at old trafford played well, him and perez look real prospects, but unlike perez who is almost 22, armstrong is only 17, today he showed glimpses of promise, he might not be the next rooney or the new alan shearer but him and perez are a breath of fresh air at the minute in a regime which lets be honest gives us nothing to cheer about, this lad might fail but you atleast got to give him a shot or sign an actual striker i.e 10-15 million which just wont ever happen under ashley.

Oh so its Dummets turn to be the scapegoat
Lol I guess with Williamson and tiote out of the team someone else has to be the fall guy lol. You;re ridiculous mate. Coloshiitty directly caused at least two of the goals today

I dont begrudge Armstrong for giving away the ball in the lead up to the first goal,
    These things happen

However unlike you i am not blinded by sentimentalism and I can’t overlook the fact he stunk up the joint today
He couldnt hold up the ball, couldnt pass, couldnt even control the ball at times and ran around like a headless chicken for the duration of his time on the pitch

NOte he still hasnt contributed a single assist or scored a single goal despite having had as many appearances this season as cisse
If we subject Cisse to merciless criticism despite scoring 8 goals this season, how can you excuse Armstrong’s pointless performance today?

Also you cant have it both ways mate
You can’t praise him for starting at old trafford despite being only 17
Then turn around and excuse his useless performance on account of him being 17

If you;re good enough you are old enough
he wasnt good enough and he clearly isnt old enough
He looked like a 17 year old out there today
He should be in the reserves or go out on loan

Hard to compete missing our first choice gk, left back, 2 centre mids, left winger, right winger and first choice striker only able to manage 20 mins!
Interested to see us with Krul, Santon, Tiote/Abeid, Aarons/Sammy, Obertan, De Jong and Cisse fully fit! Could do with a right winger tho!
No heckling at Arma, lads not ready to start for me but hes 17! Hopefully we’ll develope him correctly
