The best thing that’s happened for Newcastle this season is that we have seen some younger players come to the fore and two of them – Rolando Aarons and Ayoze Perez have just come into the first team this season.
Rolando Aarons at Manchester City where he scored after six minutes
The other two players are both local lads – Paul Dummett and 17 year-old dam Armstrong who showed flashed of what he is capable of at Manchester United.
This is what Alan Pardew has said today:
“It’s going to be a great year and a great season for Newcastle. I genuinely think that with Paul Dummett, Rolando Aarons, Adam Armstrong and Ayoze Perez, we have four really outstanding young players.”
“And that is very, very difficult to get through at a Premier League club. We’ve managed to buy one of them and the other three have come through the system.”
“We also have Sammy Ameobi, who we missed on Boxing Day. Hopefully he’ll return for the Everton game.”
We’ve only seen Rolando Aarons a few times this season – five appearances with two goals – but what we’ve seen is enough to realize this lad can become a great player for Newcastle.
But he’s been struggling with a hamstring strain for the last few months, which is why we haven’t seen too much of him, and he still isn’t expected to return until about three weeks time in mid-January.
And in January we could also see Tim Krul, Davide Santon, Siem de Jong, Ryan Taylor and Jonas Gutierrez back playing for Newcastle, along with Rolando.
We should be able to field a much stronger side at that time – and hopefully we can also bring in a top striker next month during the transfer window – we needs somebody who can score goals for us.
And we’ll be losing Papiss Cisse to the African Cup of Nations for up to six weeks starting in early January – and we’ll also lose Mehdi Abeid and Cheick Tiote at that time. 🙁
Why isn’t the African Cup of Nations every four years (and not every couple of years) like other competitions such as Euro 2016 and the World Cup?
